My Cakes

So, I decided to make this page to document all the cakes I've made over the years.  I was telling a friend the other day that the whole reason I make my own cakes (and have all these years with only one cake without any education in the matter) is for sentimental reasons, and because I think it's fun.  Well, I finally took the cake decorating class I've wanted to take all these years, and I feel a little more equipped now to produce a somewhat respectable cake.  At the same time though, I never really cared how professional they looked.  It was always the thought that counted, and the fun I had with my kids, picking them out together, looking for cake ideas, and putting them together.  Especially the ones Nate helped me with....  So here they are, in no particular order:

Veenendaal Girls' Under the Sea cake.  Oh if only I'd been able to keep everything afloat!  It totally sunk!  Such a bummer!  Summer time is not good on my cakes.  I did love the chocolate sea shells though.

This was the cake I made for Becky's voucher that she purchased at the Stowell Family Reunion.  I thought it turned out pretty cute.  I was very proud of it :).  Henry had wanted a "Magic Cake".  I think we delivered :).  Just wish I had more than a phone picture of it... doesn't do it justice :)

I made this one while doped up on pain meds from my appendectomy 2 days before, so I'm excusing myself from all the mistakes :).  I did love how the bat turned out though :)

This was my second time making a cake for someone else.  Turned out pretty good, although with all the hangups this cake had- I wish I'd had a redo.  COULD have been better.

Jack's 1st birthday- Monster cake- we did the teeth to look like Jack's :)- we ran out of frosting so it wasn't as furry as we wanted.  Oh well.

This is the cake Jack smashed in his face :) if only I could go back and rewrite his name, it is still driving me nuts.

Kelly's FRUIT cake, she was doing her no-sweets or candy thing (which she quit a few weeks later), so we decided to go fruity on her cake!  I posted the pic with her in it because she ended up doing a lot of it herself!!  TONS of fun!!  We loved this one!

Noah's Spider Man cake, for his 5th birthday.  I didn't love this one, but it turned out alright.  I had wanted to make my own spiderman but ran out of time.  And I'm still bugged about all the mess ups with the writing on top.

Luke's Angry Birds Cake... blurry picture, darn it!  This was a lot of fun to make, we didn't get to do all that we had wanted because of time again.  But it was a fun one to make!  I like the L-U-K-E the best :) Wish there were more pigs though.

Noah's 4th birthday- "Tiger" cake.... too bad he didn't love this cake-he wanted the tiger to be more realistic.... it was so much fun!

Lukey's 6th birthday- Mario cake

Erika's Kitty Cake- this one was SO much work, but SO fun as well!  We had it sitting on our counter for a week after the party (we didn't want to eat it!).  I think it's my all time favorite.

Bradley's 7th Birthday, Superhero Party, Nate actually did most of the detail on this cake.... I shouldn't take all the credit :)

My first one in my cake class.  I think I would have done a different color for the icing on the cupcake.... but I liked how it turned out.

Noah's VeggieTales Cake- 3rd birthday- he had been throwing up and sick all day so it was a rushed job.  But he loved it so much he didn't want to eat it :)- success!

Luke's Bob The Builder Cake- 5th birthday- the easiest cake on the planet :) I highly recommend this one.

Charity's Princess Castle Cake- 5th birthday- this is the one that really started the whole "creative" cakes.  I'll never forget her friend's reaction, "You MADE THAT!!!?  My mom just buys our cakes (all disappointed)."  Made it all worth it :)
