JUNE 2020

XC

Brad started back up with Cross Country this week!  This is big!  He has mostly looked forward to this.  Bright and early, Monday morning, I took him up to the vitacourse!  Kinda crazy to think that when we did this last year I was very very pregnant with Sadie.  Felt too recent.  He ran three miles that first day, trying to ease into things.  He's looking so old next to the other kids now.  Even though he's only a sophomore.  Kinda crazy to think that.  6-1-20

BARF AND LACROSSE

On the way to Kelly's game out in West Haven, Brad was talking about being hungry so I decided I'd drop of Kelly at her game and go get food for everyone else.  Well, when we pulled into Costa Vida parking lot we noticed that Sadie had thrown up (chocolate ice cream believe it or not!  That's what she was fed while I was gone earlier) all over herself and her carseat!  I tried to remain calm- been through this enough to know it's not the end of the world, but then right away realized all I had was a few cleaning wipes in the car!  No diaper wipes in the diaper bag!  That was annoying.  But they actually went a long way.  I was surprised.  I cleaned up Sadie and her carseat while Brad took everyone into Costa to get food.  This is one of the many times I realize how blessed I am to have good kids and older kids!  Sadie didn't love being stripped or wiped down.  Thankfully there was a whole outfit in the diaper bag (one I'd changed her out of previously I am assuming).  I was able to put her in that.  When Brad got back with everyone, I sent him and Erika over to Ross to get me some baby wipes.  Unfortunately they were out (apparently the store was pretty empty) and so they bought some "pet wipes".  Who knew they existed.  Which I found out later they work pretty good on babies too :).  We suffered through the vomit smell for the rest of the drive, aired out the carseat through Kelly's game, and then pretended like all was well for the rest of the evening- wasn't hard because there were no aftershocks.  We concluded that it was from teething.  Kelly's team KILLED Freemont.  Kind of fun but lacking in suspense ;).  6-1-20

KELLY'S 17th BIRTHDAY!

Kelly seemed to enjoy her day!  She woke up to her magnificent sign created by yours truly.  Hopefully we can just call it that and there aren't too many photos to document it's hideousness.  I'm so embarrassed by how it turned out.  I kept messing up and couldn't start over because we were all out of butcher paper!  Kelly's sign business has been rockin!  But anyway- she knows I love her because I did put a lot of hard work into her sign ;).  We had thought about going out to breakfast a few days before, but something happened to that idea and I ended up just making her a dippy egg instead.  But she requested that we go out to lunch as a family before her practice.  SO off to Subway we went!  Then to Gailey park to eat it.  That ended up being a fun little outing.  We dropped her off at her practice and came home to finish getting ready for her friends to come over.  While she was at practice she discovered that in the process of getting a drink from her 64oz water bottle, one of her siblings had not closed the lid all the way and put it in the same part of her back pack as her phone!  Totally drowning her phone.  This was sad for a lot of reasons.  She was not able to call me to pick her up early from practice so she walked down to Eve's house to call.  Then when we got home and after putting her phone in rice for a while realized it probably wasn't going to turn back on.  So for the rest of her birthday/party, she didn't have the use of her own phone!  Such a bummer!  The next bummer came when she realized she was going to lose all kinds of notes and photos and things.  I hate that part about broken phones!  She handled things REALLY well.  Possibly too well.  The rest of the night she still managed to have some fun though.  She had a bunch of friends come over for games, and fun in the back yard.  They had the most fun during Throw Throw Burrito and Mario Cart on the projector!  They watched some Phineas and Ferb to top the night off.  Pretty fun kids.  Happy Birthday KELZ!!!  6-2-20

KELLY'S GAME AND FAMILY PARTY

On Wednesday, we invited everyone to Kelly's game as part of her birthday celebration.  We had such a good turn out!  Even up at Ogden Fairgrounds (although it was a super big pain getting everyone there with the front gate closed!).  Grandpa Hatch, Dawn, Grandma Hatch, and the Kirschbaums!  She played so well!  Surprised everyone with her skills and their win by a mile! We ate pizza and sides during the game and then met up with everyone at Barnes Park on the way home.  Kelly had wanted to show everyone where she does her hammocking with her friends.  This was a fun little outing.  We sat on the grass by the playground for the kids and talked, played kickball, Nate and grandma Hatch took some of the littles over to the ducks to feed them.  It ended up being a lot of fun!  I was glad.  We didn't even end up tricking my mom with the card she dropped on her way out of her car and we still had a really good time :).  6-3-20

BEAR LAKE

Thursday was our first Bear Lake day so we bustled around getting the house cleaned and our stuff packed before heading out to Kelly's game.  We had a few things come up, like delivering a poster to the Cole's out in West Jordan, but we were able to get everything (for the most part) done!  It was a major mad dash to get us out the door to Kelly's game in West Haven, but we did it!  Pulled up to the park right at 4:15!  Unfortunately for us we'd forgotten a few things, not made room for a few things, and then the game didn't even start until almost 6:00 (supposed to start at 5:00).  So this was a bummer.  Kids were hungry, hot and ready to be vacationing.  But Kelly played awesome, we won AGAIN, this has become the new norm.  And not just winning, but KILLING the other team by 15 or so points (who knows how many because we stop keeping our score after about 13-0).  Then we were able to make the trek up to Bear Lake.  We made our traditional stop at the Creamery for ice cream- we got there MINUTES before they closed.  That was fun, sitting outside, Sadie crawled around opening her mouth to each person for samples.  Then we grabbed some McD's for the kids to eat while Nate ran in Smith's for our last minute food items.  We got to Grandpa and Dawn's at about 10:00.  We unpacked a little, get settled and went to bed!  It felt so good to not be at home for a change.  And that's saying a lot coming from me.  6-4-20

Friday was our beach day!  We had forgotten our canopy so we made a stop at Ace to see if they had an umbrella or something and while we were sitting there the Lasts texted to see if we wanted to meet up with them somewhere to play on the beach.  This ended up being a really welcomed surprise for the kids- They not only had Brody and Cameron, but they had Austin Noriega, Jaxx Thaxton and Cooper Patane with them.  So the kids all had a blast with their friends on the beach.  I was glad we got to shake things up a bit.  They had so much fun burying Brody :).  Grandpa and Dawn showed up after an hour or so as well- Dawn's interview had been canceled.  Nate had bought this hilarious little canopy thing- not sure what to call it- it was only about four feet tall and four feet wide, so it only fit two people under it, barely, and it just looked so funny!  Like a smaller model of a big, real canopy.  Made me laugh.  Lots.  It will make a fun little fort though, for the kids to play in!  We had fun on the beach for a few hours and then the wind picked up.  After the beach most of us took naps.  That night Nate cooked us up some ribs and hotdogs.  So delicious!  And we had a salad.  After dinner we went and got Raspberry Shakes with the Lasts and company.  That was a lot of fun to sit and talk with Shelly and Alan.  I only wish Grandpa and Dawn had stayed there with us.  We watched some movies and played some games when we got home and then went to bed.  6-5-20

Saturday was rainy and cold all day.  We didn't do a whole lot besides games and movies.  Nate, Brad and Noah had tried to go fishing that morning but in the middle of their trip realized the tire was flat.  They hurried home after getting some slime in the tire.  It was a pretty lazy day.  Not much to do.  Nate did take Kelly, Luke, Molly and Sadie on a walk up to where the Lasts were staying, they had a lot of fun with that.  That night we went to Firehouse Pizza for our beloved FH'Zookies.  And Pizza of course.  That was a lot of fun.  Watched some movies and played some more games when we got back to Grandpa and Dawn.  6-6-20

Sunday was an interesting day.  We got all ready for church and then had our sacrament there at Grandpa and Dawn's.  I was surprised grandpa was up for having church with us.  It went really well.  I was glad.  I had been so nervous.  Everyone was so reverent.  Even Molly and Sadie.  And especially Grandpa!  We talked about the Bearing a Load video with Luke directing the discussion.  Then Erika did a primary lesson where we paired up and acted out a choice, everyone else had to guess good or bad.  I couldn't believe my dad participated and went along with it all with us!  Good sport.  Dawn was somewhere else.  We napped, played games, drove out to the bird refuge that was up north of the lake.  That ended up being a really fun little activity.  We loved the little Something-stilter bird with the toothpick legs, walking around in the shallow water.  So cute!  Then made our way back home to eat some of Dawn's lasagna she had slaved over the day before.  Kind of uneventful, rainy, cold day, but different nonetheless.  6-7-20

Monday was our day to drive home.  Nate took Brad, Noah and Erika fishing while the rest of us made breakfast for everyone and started packing and cleaning.  We were able to eat leftover lasagna for lunch and still made it home in time for Kelly's game.  Brad drove us all the way home!  Probably one of the scariest rides home from Bear Lake every, but he did a great job!  And nobody died!  Another Bear Lake trip in the books!  6-8-20

RAIN, SLEET, HAIL, LACROSSE

So it rained most of the way home from Bear Lake then stopped just as we got home!  That was pretty miraculous.  We all headed over to Kelly's game without too much preparation, thinking we'd be sitting in the beautiful sunshine, but of course, just as the game started, so did the rain, sleet, and even hail!  We didn't even have an umbrella!!  We got pretty wet.  At about halftime I suggested that Nate take the littles home, so he took Sadie, Molly, Jack and Noah home.  Brad, Luke, Erika and I stuck it out in the rain.  And oddly enough, just as the game ended, so did the weather!  Sun shining, we walked to our car, hauling all our wet chairs and gear.  Funny stuff.  6-8-20

FAMILY NIGHT
We waited until Tuesday for Family Night and were missing a few people, but we managed to enjoy ourselves enough.  Bradley taught about Amulek!  That was fun.  We read some scriptures and talked about them.  Then we played Throw Throw Burrito in the backyard for Kelly's choice of the activity.  Then we drove out to Nielson's Frozen Custard for Noah's treat!  MMMMMMMMM 6-9-20

CASTLE PARK WITH THE MAUGHANS

We had a great time Wednesday, playing at the park with the Maughans.  Tree climbing, snacking, racing to the car to get the diaper bag for a Pringles reward (and then realizing it wasn't even in the car), Charity's surprise visit to bring a mini Rubiks cube to Luke, reminiscing about the torture of Online Learning, etc.  It was some much needed friend time.  Nate had been left to himself so he chose to make Jalapeno poppers :).  Good times! 6-10-20

KEVA JUICE

After Kelly's hot game (probably some sunburns from that one) and some sitting around at home, we remembered that I had told Luke I'd take him to Keva Juice.  So we piled all who were left here- Luke on down- into the car, and forced them to go to Keva with us :).  Jack wasn't too happy with the idea.  It was a fun little outing.  Could have done without Sadie's screaming.  6-10-20

BISHOP'S STOREHOUSE

Nate, Kelly, Bradley, Luke, and Noah all got to go help at the Bishop's storehouse this week.  They had some fun stories about apples and sweeping... sandwiches?  Sounded like a good time.  More productive that some of the other people we've talked to.  Good stuff.  6-11-20

KELLY'S TOURNAMENT

We had a very fun tournament this year!  Thursday night game and three games on Friday.  We had won the first three games by a mile so we were totally pumped and excited for the last game to end the same.  You can imagine the suspense created when we were neck and neck for most of the game!  Even behind by a point a few times- thanks to Kelly we were tied back up at 8 to 8, then someone else tied us back up at 9 to 9, right before the buzzer!!  SO STRESSFUL!!  We went into a three minute sudden death overtime and thankfully we were able to score and WIN the tournament!  This was the equivalent of a State Championship this year.  So pretty sweet!  That off-sides call and the messed up face off couldn't have been more timely.  What a fun way to take the season though!  I was so proud of Kelly!  She is such a great player!  It was a lot of fun to have a full tent cheering for her- lots of her friends, Charity's friends, Grandpa Hatch!, the biggest fan club out there!  Lots of fun celebrating and picture taking afterwards.  SO FUN!!  Great way to end the season.  6-13-20

What a weird first day back to Church this was.  I mean, I think I made it weirder than it needed to be by being indecisive, but it really didn't go as pictured.  Ever since I heard that we aren't required to go, I had decided that we were not going to.  Mainly I just like doing church at home.  But also, juggling the littles with masks and trying to keep them from touching things... it seemed like too much.  So I had planned on not going.  Nate was going to go and the boys were going to go help with the Sacrament, but I was hoping to have another Sacrament meeting at home with our family together.  You can imagine everyone's shock when I informed them that we were going to go to church.  Nate had been up for a while, had a meeting and then got a call from work that he was not going to be able to miss work that day.  They were down to only two guys in his area.  So he unhappily changed out of his church clothes and sadly informed the Bishop that he was not going to be able to go and help.  That was really hard for him.  Bugged him for a few days.  I felt so bad for him.  But after Nate left, I woke everyone up, got them all dressed- this was a challenge.  And getting out the door by 10:30 was a struggle as well.  But we did it.  We got there a little early even.  I could tell right away that Sadie was not going to cooperate with the Sunday routine.  And I was preparing myself for the meeting to happen without me.  Sure enough, about three minutes into the Bishop's talk about not judging each other for our participation in Church or our wearing of masks... Sadie, Molly and I headed to the back of the chapel.  We were able to stand there til the Sacrament was over.  It was interesting to watch the boys pass the sacrament holding two trays each one for bread or water and the other to dispose of the cups.  They weren't sure where to go or what to do, I had several try to give me more of the Sacrament it was so confusing :).  But I will say that the Spirit was very strong during that part of the meeting.  I was grateful to have a tiny sense of normalcy.  Even though I was standing in a chapel with only about 50 othe people scattered throughout the room, everyone donning masks.  It did feel like church during the Sacrament.  After that, it was kind of a blur.  Molly, Sadie and I headed out toward the foyer, didn't want to linger there, so we headed outside.  We took a little walk around the building.  Talked about music makers, and all the things we do at the church.  Molly was reminiscing.  I was a little bummed that I couldn't be in the meeting.  I had really wanted to hear Parker Last's farewell talk.  But I did meet Bro. Maughan out on the steps, heard his life story.  So it wasn't a complete loss.  I'm not sure what I would do differently in three weeks when we're allowed to go again, but hopefully it's better.  I think those last two Sundays before the quarantine were the first two that I had been able to keep Sadie in the chapel the entire time.  So I'm sad that we've lost any progress we made with her.  Molly too for that matter.  But whatever.  6-14-20

LAX VIDEO

So this was quite the challenge this year!  I'm not gonna lie- I didn't enjoy making it as much as I did last year!  Too many weird hangups.  I worked for a good three or four hours on the Movie Maker program, then it crashed, so I moved to a few different ones, free ones that weren't actually free, then spent about 10 hours on one I thought was going to work, only to have it crash.  Which ended up being kind of a blessing in disguise afterwards because the program wouldn't have let me make a video on it without purchasing the full version of the program!  So kind of good.  Only wish I'd known that before I'd wasted the 10 hours of my sabbath on it.  Then I had the thought to convert my .mov files to .wmv files and then they worked on Music Maker.  So that was a pretty awesome miracle.  I'll have to try to remember that for next time.  If there is a next time.  I love making those once we get going, and all day Monday was spent doing just that, but those messed up days leading up to it about killed me.  It was slightly anti-climactic when it wasn't really dark enough to see the pictures when we watched it at the banquet.  But I was happy that Kelly liked it at least.  6-15-20

KELLY'S BANQUET

The banquet ended up being really fun this year!  I was pleasantly surprised.  I was happy that we were able to have the girls do their awards, and the video, and the Kneaders was super yummy even though Debbie didn't buy enough- huge eye roll!  Why would you only order 75 lunches when you've invited 90 people??  Weird.  Kelly got the #1 Team Player award from her team- because she's such a good team player!  I love that she was recognized for that.  She enjoyed hanging out with Ryann and it was a lot of fun to talk to Paul at the end.  Such a great coach.  It will be interesting to see how it goes next year being sanctioned and all.  6-15-20

THE HATCHES ARE IN TOWN!

It was a lot of fun to see Sarah and the kids on Tuesday!  They came to hang out as they got to Utah.  We messed up on the scheduling- the boys will all be gone next week when we were planning on hanging out with them- so we had to squeeze this little hang out in.  It was fun to see them.  Can't believe how grown up everyone is! Nate had fun making cookies with Savannah to help her cheer up about having to be with us :).  6-16-20

PACKING FOR BACKPACKING

Nate and the kids have been preparing like mad for their big trip coming up!  Their stuff has been all over the living room :).  They're all getting really excited to go!  Should be lots of fun! 6-17-20

BIKE RIDE WITH ERIKA

Erika and I finally went on our second bike ride up to the Layton Temple site.  They had already made TONS of progress!  I was so surprised and impressed!  It's so neat to feel the spirit there.  We decided to say a little prayer together which was totally awesome.  We wanted to stop somewhere yummy on our way home so we decided on Fiiz, but when we got there and couldn't get the app to work nor the calling in, we ended up leaving and going down to 7-11 for some slurpees.  We got to sit and chat outside of 7-11 for a while and then some more at Gailey Park- so that was fun.  It's so fun to get out and spend time with Erika.  Love that girl!  She's so fun to talk to and such a good bike rider!  I wish I could ride like her- but I'm glad she waits for me and doesn't make me feel like a slow poke :).  6-19-20

FATHER’S DAY

We had a really nice, pretty laid back Father’s Day this year. Kept up the breakfast in bed tradition, but we skipped the shirt one. Felt weird not to do it, but he really has enough shirts right now ツ. Everyone showered him with their gifts. It was especially great to have him home this year. We got our Sunday naps.  Steve came to say hi and then Grandpa and Dawn came For some Zuppa Toscana and ham and cheese sliders. I had promised carrot cake and then completely forgot about it so we made brownies instead. And I also forgot the Hershey kisses, so deciding that the main purpose of the kiss song is just to throw something, we improvised with fruit snacks. Strange, I know. It worked. There weren't any pieces of foil strewn all over the room too, so that was a nice change.  I think Nate had a good day. Hopefully he felt good a spoiled.  6-21-20

BOYS AND ERIKA GO BACKPACKING

Nate's been planning and preparing for this one for at least a month now!  The backpacks and stuff have been laying around for at least two weeks and the excitement continued to build!  I was up early studying so I got to see them all off.  It was fun to see them so excited and willing to put themselves through so much in the name of fun :).  Even Erika who was the newb this year.  They had their snacks, their packs, and they were ready to go!  We don't get to hear anything during this trip, so we just sit around anxiously awaiting their return til we get the scoop.  I should have them write about it all for us.  It was hard to have them gone- they were all missed!!  We were glad to have their cute, dirty, sunburnt, tired faces come in the door that Friday!!  Couldn't have been happier to have them back.  6-22-20--6-26-20

ME AND THE GIRLS (EXCEPT ERIKA)

Having only the five of us, and usually that was only the four of us, this opened a lot of doors for entertainment and eating out that we don't normally do.  

Monday was our day to hang out with Grandma Hatch and the Hatches with Heidi and Steve.  We all met up at Bountiful pond and had lunch together.  Some of the things to remember: stinky dump, cotton candy grapes, Izzy picking up Sadie by her head, Steve making fishing poles out of weeds for the kids, me breaking the camp chair (maybe I don't want to remember this), Grandma asking Kelly if her wrinkles and neck were scary.  It was a fun time.  Kinda hot, but enjoyable!  Just fun to be with everyone.  

Tuesday we met up at the Kaysville Splash Pad for some fun with the Hatches and Heidi. We only had our two umbrellas for shade so we all sat really close together in the tiny shade and ate snacks, had Charity run to Fiiz for everyone, chased kids around, got splashed on and just enjoyed each other's company there too.  After the Splash pad everyone came over to our house for some fun and food for the rest of the evening.  

Wednesday was our day to go up to Pineview!  Charity had invited all of her friends, Kelly invited Whitney, Sarah and her kids, Heidi, and her kids, and Grandma and Simon all showed up throughout the day.  It was a lot of fun!  We got my paddle board out for the first time- everyone loved it!  I was happy we were able to do something so fun this week.  Most of the time was devoted to younger kid things, so this was nice to entertain the teens.  When we got home we crashed.  Charity and Kelly had plans that evening, so it was just Molly, Sadie and I and boy was that a challenge!  Staying happy was hard, but we managed to.  

Thursday we bummed around a lot, but were able to finally go hammocking at Barnes Park in the evening.  This was a very memorable experience.  Lots of laughter.  Things to remember: Molly insisting that she be in Kelly's hammock, flipping over and after hanging in the hair mysteriously falling on her face, Sadie and I chilling in our hammock, her little noises of relaxing, the quick run to the bathroom, Sadie eating all the dirt, the frisbee!!! HAHAHA!  Molly.  Good times.  

Friday we cleaned up and then went over to Station Park for pretzel bites and shopping!  Bath and Body works, Fiiz, Old Navy... it was a great way to end the week!  I loved having that time with them and being able to do so much together.
