MARCH 2022

 CHARITY ON THE DEAN'S LIST
Charity has had a really successful semester this time!  She's doing so well she's on the Dean's list!  I'm so proud of that girl and all that she does.  She's really doing it!  I'm glad she's gotten into a groove and is feeling a little more comfortable with school.  3-1-22

VOMIT
We got the worst stomach bug this week!  I've decided it was from Coconut Cove since Sadie and Molly got it first and it's the first time we've been in a play place in about two years.  I welcome most germs, but throw up ones... not my favorite!  This was a doozy for sure!  Molly was first, then Sadie Tuesday night.   I'll never forget that night, she and Molly just tag teamed me.  We finally went up to my bed (Nate was working the mid) and like every five minutes Sadie was up, dry heaving mostly, there was usually a few little foamy drops of stomach bile, it was awful!  The poor little thing! We had decided (based on the contents of their vomit) that it was the raspberries they ate the night before.  I assumed they'd eaten too much or rotten or something.  So we weren't surprised when Nate got it the next day, because he had been one of the few to eat the raspberries.  We knew Luke had had some too, so we were sure he would get it next and on the way home from his Regional Basketball game (which don't get me started on that game) he started feeling really nauseous and threw up soon after we got home.  It's always so sad when it takes a new casualty.  That same night, Thursday, Jack started having a really bad stomach ache.  Erika did as well, so I was letting them hang out downstairs for a while watching tv until Jack finally threw up and got it all out.  We were still pretty convinced it was the raspberries even though Jack insisted he had not eaten any.  He was our anomaly, but we still went on with Nate's food orders and carried on with our date with the Nybos and Moores.  We went to Blue Lemon and it was so yummy!  I ate way too much that night, poppers, wings, my lettuce wraps on the date, and then topped it off with one of my granola bars and from that moment on, I realized I was next in line for the night of vomit.  I was trying so hard to talk myself out of it, deep breathing, took a few baths to relax... didn't help, I felt so sick!  And I was so weak and tired with it!  It was so weird.  We all went to bed and my stomach just churned for about an hour before exploding all over the place.  Not a good night!  I was up about every half hour all night long.  Halfway through the night, Erika started taking turns in the bathroom.  She was pretty sick too.  It was awful.  Then not long after she joined me, Noah was in on it as well.  They were so sick, I was so sick... it was so sad!!  I felt so bad I wasn't more help to them, but luckily Nate stepped up and helped them a lot.  Long night.  The next day we felt mostly better, but of course, just to throw us off, Sadie threw up again!  Silly girl.  Her poor stomach had been through so much the night she was sick. So we took it easy all day Sunday, poor Erika had to miss her game.  And even though we hadn't been planning on going, because of Erika's game, we also missed Jake and Grace's Bridal Shower.  Brad quietly got sick on Saturday.  He was trying so hard not to get it and was the last one of course, so he was on our radar, but he managed to kind of deal with it on his own.  The older kids really did kinda take care of themselves with this, they didn't want any help, they weren't wanting to use the bowl downstairs.  It was interesting.  We did miss church which is always a bummer, but thought it best considering all the germs.  They sure were lost without all our boys to help with the Sacrament.  I'm glad we have such reliable kids, but I think they are enabling the other kids to be unreliable.  Just saying.  So anyway.  That was our week of vomit!  Not fun!  It was probably our turn though.  Hopefully it goes away soon.  3-2-22

KELLY'S STAKE PRESIDENT
While I was taking care of sick girls on Tuesday night, I got a call from a very upset Kelly telling me her Stake President would not recommend her for a mission.  My heart completely sunk.  I had had feelings that this would happen, but not enough for me to be fully prepared.  I didn't feel like it was the end, based on what she was saying, but I needed answers to questions she had not asked, so I did the unthinkable (For me) and called her Stake President.  He didn't answer when I called, and actually called me back later (it was probably close to 8:30 when he called).  It was a really good, but also not good phone call.  Hard to explain.  And the funny thing was, I was cleaning up Sadie and her throw up throughout the whole phone call.  Talk about multitasking!  It was nice to hear that he wasn't giving up on Kelly, he had some ideas, get a clean bill of health, get her on some pain meds, or figure out what is up with her bloodwork (that stupid doctor from the Tanner clinic had run a bunch of tests he didn't need to run on her blood and urine and then sent in the info on her physical forms rather than talking to Kelly about it all).  Her Stake President is an ER Doctor so he knows stuff and was useful to talk to.  He also talked about being an advocate for Kelly and wanting to get her on a mission, but not if she is going to have to come home early.  I get it.  It's hard to admit, but I don't want to send her out there like that either.  My hope is that she would be distracted and not in as much pain, or some other miracle, but we need to accept that she cannot go out there like that.  So anyway.  I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Tew the next day to get her a second opinion on the bloodwork, etc.  Hopefully that gives us some direction or answers.  3-2-22

REGION
Brad and Luke and their Priest/Teacher team made it to Regions this year!  It was so exciting!  They were so excited for their first game on Thursday and so anxious to play!  I was really excited for them as well!  Unfortunately, that was the evening Nate was sick, so he wasn't able to go and watch, so Erika and I were their cheering section.  It was a well fought game, but so many things were not in their favor.  Within the first five minutes or so we had an injury, one of our Hidden Valley players hurt his ankle, that was so sad!  Then the refs just seemed to have it out for our guys!  I don't know what it was because the other team had THE WORSTS sportsmanship and were just awful most of the game, but the refs just kept calling things on our guys!  Especially Brad!  I really don't know what it was, but he was not liking Brad for some reason.  It was a rough game.  I was so bummed for them.  They played hard and did their best and actually kept their cool which is more than I can say for myself.  We got really heated when the one ref mimicked Erika's "What?" at the bad call he made.  So strange.  Not a shining moment.  But they tried!  They tried really hard!  3-3-22

ERIKA 7TH GRADE REGISTRATION
Erika is officially registered for 7th grade!  Well, minus that I forgot to turn in her immunizations.  Gotta get those up to date.  But wow!  I can't believe we're here!  She's really going to grow up some more and go to Junior High next year!  Crazy stuff.  3-4-22

COCONUT COVE WITH HEIDI
Heidi and I met up at Coconut Cove for the kids to play.  This was when it occurred to me that this might be where we got our stomach bug.  Oddly enough, I saw a little girl throw up while we were there.  Not proof, kinda soon to be from there, but weird.  The kids had a great time.  I loved being able to sit and chat too.  3-7-22

FHE
Luke taught our lesson this week.  He had us draw a picture of something hard we have been through and then write things that we can do to get through hard things.  It was a good lesson.  We played Jackbox games for the activity and ate Drumsticks for Erika's (and kinda Sadie's cuz she insisted she was actually the treat) treat.  3-7-22

ACT DAY
Brad got to take the free ACT on Tuesday.  He seemed a little nervous, but took it in stride.  Luke fully enjoyed his day off :).  We went to Arby's for some lunch.  Noah was also home because the 9th graders were testing.  He and his friends went to breakfast at McD's after learning Wendy's wasn't open.  He seemed to have a lot of fun with Zak that day.  Good times.  3-8-22

CHARITY'S BIRTHDAY DINNER
We all loaded up into the van and drove up to Logan to take Charity out for her birthday.  Grandma Hatch came with us because the weather had taken a turn for the worse.  We were pretty nervous the whole drive up there and not sure how the drive home was going to go, but we were so glad we made it up there!  We had a great time at Texas Roadhouse.  Grandpa Hatch and Heidi and the kids showed up as well as Isaac after his long drive through the storm also.  We had an awesome waiter- Jim :).  And lots of fun! I wished I hadn't forgotten the cheesecake! But I loved Charity's reactions to her gifts.  We had gone up a little early to get her a stuffed food pillow at the Red Balloon Toy store as one of her gifts, so it was fun to give her the stuffed S'mores :).  We also gave her a Karimba thumb piano and some Switch credits.  It was a nice time with Charity.  We were wishing we had more time and if it hadn't been for the weather we would have gone back to the girls' clubhouse, but it was pretty risky.  And there was school the next day.  But we were grateful for the time we had!  Happy Birthday, Charity!  We love you!!  Thankfully, we made it home safely.  Answered prayers. 3-8-22

WEDNESDAY WAS OUR BIG DAY
Wednesday was very colorful on my calendar and I was strategizing how we were going to get it all accomplished.  My mom cancelled on babysitting for our temple trip, so I started making plans to divide and conquer the day.  Thankfully, Nate had taken his mid shift off because of the dinner the night before (which was also a big blessing- he wouldn't have made it home in time).  We had a dentist appointment for Jack, for the lumps on his gums.  He had been feeling pretty sick all week still and missed a couple days of school along with his lumpy gums.  Kind of a bummer week for him.  Nate had a catering job at the same time for the Windridge PTA.  Then it was time for the temple.  Bradley and Erika were the only kids going and since Nate is the more valuable parent, he took them to the temple.  It sounded like they had a good time.  I wish I'd been there, but I give myself credit for scheduling it :) and I know that I can receive blessings just for that ;).  I got Molly off to school and Sadie down for a nap and then it was time for Noah's ortho appointment.  That was funny.  Dr. Luddington hasn't been my favorite for a while.  I was sitting there trying to figure out a way to ask about moving him to DeFay before we put his braces on.  He's finished his phase 1 and is ready for the next phase but I just really didn't want to keep taking him there.  We like DeFay much better.  So I sat there pondering and then as we were done with the 10 second checkup he announced that he is retiring!  He totally opened the door for me to ask about the payment plan and although, it offended him a little, asked about moving Noah to DeFay.  Kind of awkward, but I got the info I need.  I'll probably never see them again.  I really liked his assistant, Sharon, but not as impressed with Dr. Luddington ever since our consult for Bradley.  Super awkward, but whatever.  We scheduled him a consult at DeFay on the way home :).  I got to hear about Noah's festival that day and I saw some videos on other peoples' fb.  They were privileged enough to go to this festival, got superior rating!  Pretty awesome!  The rest of the day was pretty normal.  Just dinner and youth activities and the littles and I watched some movies.  It was a good thing we made it through that day.  I was glad.  3-9-22

THE BIG DAY
Friday was my much anticipated day.  Not in a fun way, just anxious to get some answers! Her appointment with Dr. Tew for a second physical was at 10:20 and her appointment with the Heart Rhythm Specialist was at 12:30, so we were packing it in.  The appointment with Dr. Tew went okay.  Not quite how I had planned, but he was helpful.  He wants the results from the Tanner Clinic, which might prove to be difficult.  Then he wants to get her in to an endocrinologist.  We will hopefully be able to schedule that soon.  He was helpful and sympathetic and wanting her to be able to go on a mission, but a little confused by our methods.  We didn't have all the right forms because Kelly's portal was closed after turning in her paperwork already.  Kind of messy.  But like I learned this week in the Old Testament- sometimes things are messy.  Doesn't mean the Lord is not with us.  I am trying to be patient about all of this.  Kelly is a good example and seems completely neutral on the matter already- super impressive- I wish I was, but I will get there.  Maybe.  Just breaks my heart for her.  This is all she has wanted for a good two years.  It's been her only focus.  Every decision she has made has been tied to going on a mission.  I hope we can all be on board with Heavenly Father's plan for Kelly.  We ran down to Great Harvest and got some Cinnamon Burst bread for Grandpa Hatch and then delivered it and visited for a bit.  That was nice.  Then it was time for the Heart Rhythm specialist appointment.  This was a tough one for me to agree to.  I thought it was a dead end the minute they started looking into the heart problems just because the halter monitor wasn't really set up for this kind of thing.  But at the request of Dr. Brandley, we scheduled it.  Took a couple months to get in so we were kind of anxious for it by now.  Hopeful as well.  We went to McKay Dee Hospital which I am starting to really hate if I'm being completely honest.  Not a huge fan as of right now.  We got in and they quickly did an EKG on her.  Took a couple seconds.  Then we sat and waited for "Dr. Dan" to come in.  He came in, said hello, sort of, and then jumped right in to how dumb it was that we were there.  He had no idea.  I wasn't even sure anymore, it had been about three months since we got the long awaited for results from the halter monitor (did I post about that? Took like a month to hear back on that) and of course, I didn't write down the things they had reported about her monitor- I was expecting them to put that in some kind of report when they referred her to the HRS.  So I made a complete fool of myself, stumbling over words.  He made us feel like idiots explaining what a halter monitor was, which we were very familiar with and didn't need his lengthy description.  We wanted to hear how the EKG was, but he was so disgusted with us not knowing why we were there, he didn't even say anything about it until I asked.  Of course it was also totally normal, just like the results from the halter monitor.  Duh.  So we were wasting his time and OUR time.  He wanted to throw out something else we could do (not sure why) and brought up an ECG (echo cardio gram) and I got confused because we had just done an Electro-Cardio Gram EKG, and I made a comment that that was confusing after having him clarify what he was suggesting, and he got all offended.  I was talking about the terminology, not him.  Whatever.  It was SO ANNOYING!!!!  Nothing worse than waiting three months for an appointment only to have it be so pointless.  And I don't blame Dr. Dan completely.  I was also ticked at Dr. Brandley for sending us there.  So on our way out, we stopped at Dr. Brandley's office and complained about the referral.  They said they'll call me, but I doubt it.  And I don't really care.  I doubt they will refund it.  That's all I really want.  But UGH!!!!  We don't have time to waste here!!  I am getting so impatient with all of this.  I feel so many different mixed feelings.  I am a fixer, I want to fix it!  But I feel like we are running out of options as well as we don't always have all the time in the world for all the appointments it is taking to find out nothing!  I want Kelly to be able to carry on with her life!  I don't want to spend all her time off in waiting rooms, getting poked and disappointing results.  But I also feel like I'm failing her as a mom.  I'm supposed to take care of her.  I am the one who is supposed to make sure she can do the things she wants to do.  I'm failing!  And I failed her by putting it off for the past few months.  We didn't have any real avenues to try, but I wish I'd been doing something.  I feel like I've let her down.  I hate that.  I am so sad about her not being able to go if we can't get this figured out.  I'm sad if she has to wait forever to finally be able to go.  I don't want her to have to put her life completely on hold, but I also don't want her to miss out on this opportunity that she has been longing for.  It's hard to read missionary letters, hard to hear about my friends' kids on missions, and hard to think about this summer, not knowing if we will have Kelly here or if she will be off living her dream.  I want to make it happen.  I wish I had more control.  I wish I could get quicker answers and have things happen at a quicker pace.  I hope she is okay, that the pain is actually treatable.  I hope that we can get some real answers soon.  I need to have more faith in the Lord's timing and in his Plan for Kelly.  I know she will be fine either way.  I just know how much she wanted this.  3-11-22

NOAH'S DANCE
Noah got to go to a school dance on Friday.  I loved that he asked Kelly for help knowing how to dance and that he was able to dance with Calista, along with a few others.  I made him promise me he would dance with three girls.  He's been a lot of fun to talk to about it all.  Cool kid.  3-11-22

GAME NIGHT
We had a little game night Friday night.  Played a few games, just Erika, Jack, Molly, Sadie and I.  And then we watched the new Disney movie Red Panda.  Which that turned out to be a complete disappointment.  I mean Molly and sadie liked it, but I thought it was weird.  3-11-22

KELLY SICK
We thought we were in the clearing and that having Kelly here this weekend would be okay, but of course it wasn't (huge eye roll), Kelly was feeling pretty sick on Saturday morning and finally threw up.  I felt so bad!  Like she doesn't have enough going on right now!!  So she cancelled work and laid around throwing up through all the basketball games she would have loved to see and the evening when she would have been off having fun with her friends.  Such a bummer.  I feel so bad.  She is still here, Sunday, but feeling a little better and has kept a few things down.  I hope she's feeling better sooner than I did.  Took me a good week to get over this bug.  I hope she is okay.  She's been in a lot of pain the whole time.  Such a bummer.  3-13-22

LABS
So Monday came and the dumb Tanner Clinic still hadn't sent Kelly's previous lab results to Doctor Tew.  I seriously have zero patience for this stuff with how advanced we are now days, it's a simple fax or email!  Shouldn't be so difficult, so I took matters into my own hands and drove up to the Layton Clinic with Sadie, she was adorable by the way, walking up the stairs declaring she loved the stairs and "I happy now!", super cute, but anyway- I wasn't sure they would actually give me the results with the hijacked form I had signed where Kelly should sign.  Everything has been so difficult with her turning 18 and all.  So I had my doubts, but surprisingly, they handed the forms right over!  I was shocked!  Happy, but shocked!  Then I drove them right down to Grow Up Great and gave them right to the nurses to give to Dr. Tew with orders that he get them immediately :).  Which was actually probably accomplished, because he called me right as I walked in the door from delivering them.  Kinda funny how driving up there and down to Bountiful was quicker than a fax!!!  DUH people!  But then of course, this happy moment was topped off with a rotten cherry because Dr. Tew wasn't sure she would be able to go to an endocrinologist because her calcium wasn't actually that high.  Just the high end of normal.  Which is high enough to me considering her condition.  So, of course, it left me in a little bit of a funk until we were finally able to hear back from the endocrinologist about her being able to be seen.  3-14-22

KELLY'S FIRST GAME COACHING
I wasn't sure how I was going to make this work, or whether I should (Monday night and all), but I was really anxious and excited to watch Kelly's team play!  So Erika and I drove all the way to Ridgeline High to watch Kelly coach :).  It was so much fun!!  We loved it!  It was so fun to watch Kelly in her place and see how much the girls looked to her for advice and listened.  Just too cool!  We couldn't stand the girl standing behind her screaming at everyone the entire game and figured she was an assistant coach or something, but we loved the game otherwise :).  Cold temps and all.  And I got to hang out with Erika the whole time!  We have a lot of fun talks on those long drives up to Logan.  I love it!  3-14-22

FHE A DAY LATE
We had FHE Tuesday night since we'd been up in Logan.  It's been so nice getting back into FHE.  We had Bradley's lesson.  He lead a great discussion going through the song "How Firm a Foundation".  Turned out really great!  We had Crumbl cookies for the treat and played Jackbox games for the activity.  3-15-22

ST PATRICK'S DAY
I love St. Patrick's Day!  I love to make a big deal about it.  Mainly because you don't have to :).  I like the days that have little expectation so it doesn't matter what you do- it's something cool!  So this year we had our usual Lucky Charms- this year, back in February at Costco, we bought a special box that was supposed to turn the milk green!  So I didn't even have to add green food coloring to the bowls :).  I wish I'd thought to do green lunch!  I need to do that next year!  I had ordered all my rainbow fruit and candy for the treasure hunt online and the person delivering it stole my candy!!  So I went to the store and bought that plus some green pringles, green sprite, green extra gum for each kid.  I couldn't stop myself :).  Sadie and Molly helped :).  So I placed those all cute on everyone's beds to surprise them when they got home, with little green notes telling them how much I love them.  I love doing that stuff.  We had a fruit rainbow with whipped cream clouds, and Nate made pastrami sandwiches- a new tradition- they looked amazing!  I wish I'd been able to eat them.  We had our traditional treasure hunt for the pot of gold.  The kids really get into this every year, it's lots of fun.  It was slightly tainted with the fact that Molly had asked me if leprechauns are real earlier in the day and I had had to break it to her.  She played along still though, and it was a fun one.  They figured out my clues really quick!  It was a pretty fun day!!  I loved it :).  3-17-22

OLIVE GARDEN, ELSA AND ENDOCRINOLOGY
I got to go to lunch with Kathy and Hollie finally.  Amazing that we actually made it!  Sadie came with me.  It was a random short day so we had to finagle the schedule a little, but it was so much fun!  I really enjoyed it.  While we were sitting there eating lunch and talking about Kelly's situation, I got a call from the endocrinologist office!  This was very exciting, I was so glad I took the call- we got to schedule her appointment.  Only downside was it's in JULY!!!  The end of July!!  UGH!!!  It will be difficult for me to wait that long.  And yes, we are on the cancellation list!  But we were happy she got in.  I am sure this is hormonal.  We shall see.  Sadie was an angel at this lunch!  I couldn't believe how good she was the ENTIRE TIME!  Just an angel!  I loved it.  Kathy loved it :).  She ordered her own sprite, fries, and insisted that I tell the waitress that the waitress looks like Elsa.  HA!  So fun!  She didn't even ask to go home until the minute it was actually time to go and we needed to go quick!  So it was actually a good thing she asked!  Good stuff.  3-17-22

KELLY'S PAIN INSTACARE/ER
Friday morning, I woke up to a call from Charity, for Kelly, telling me that Kelly was in some pretty intense pain.  Different than usual.  I was still half asleep and my first thought was that it was a UTI.  Since she had tested positive for a UTI.  I told her to go to the Instacare.  The whole morning was spent waiting for updates and checking inn on her.  A little later in the morning, I found out the pain was specifically in her upper right abdomen, just under her ribs, her upper back between her shoulder blades, and her lower back.  Text. book. gallbladder issues. right?!!!  I couldn't believe how textbook it was.  So I told her to make sure they check her gallbladder.  Which they had assumed too and had ordered an ultrasound on her gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas and liver, but not until 3:00 that day.   It was a day off from school, so the kids were dying to do something fun, but as usual nobody knew what to do.  Thankfully, Noah threw out the idea to go to Pretzel Maker!  So that's what we did!  Pretzel maker at the mall!  It was a fun outing.  We had a good time.  I was anxious to get up to Logan, but it was a really nice time with everyone (minus Brad and Luke, they were at Track).  I headed up to Logan after that.  We sat and talked with the roommates for a bit and then Charity and I took Kelly to get her ultrasound that I KNEW was going to show some issues with her gallbladder.  There was not a doubt in my mind!  So crazy.  Unfortunately, after the ultrasound we learned that everything looked great!  Those three words feel like a ton of bricks when you are in pain.  Some more unexplained pain for Kelly.  SO ANNOYING!!  And I just wasn't done at all!!  I couldn't believe they were okay just dismissing her while she was in so much pain.  They prescribed some Prilosec in case it's something gastric, and because I was worried about her pain level, they prescribed some Tramadol.  Duh.  I cannot express how unhappy and dissatisfied I was with this situation.  We met up with Isaac at Chick-fil-a, and because I was considering taking Kelly back to the hospital, I told her not to eat anything.  She'd already been fasting for quite a while so I figured.  I feel bad about how that lunch went.  I was upset, Kelly was upset.  It wasn't a very fun hang out for everyone.  After talking with Brent and Heidi and Nate I made an executive decision to take her back to the hospital, but the ER, to keep looking.  That was another dumb decision of mine.  I do so wish I could take it back.  But whatever.  They did a million more tests, gave her some Fentanyl so that "when it's time to go home, the pain is a little less and it's not as difficult to imagine managing the pain on her own".  Great.  Thanks.  All of the tests they did there came back perfectly normal as well.  We had prepared ourselves a little better for this blow.  But it was still a blow.  I wasn't sure what to do with Kelly.  She didn't want to come home because she needed to work the next day (can't call in two days in a row I guess), so I took her home.  Pain and all.  She went to a campfire that night so maybe she was feeling a little better.  It was hard to leave her that night. 3-18-22

ERIKA'S LAST GAME
Erika got to play her last game this Saturday.  She did amazing as usual.  We were all so proud of her!  She made the first points and just kept going!  She was on a roll!  So fun!  3-19-22

MY TURN
So Sunday was so strange!  I woke up like normal, ate normal, then slowly, as the morning went on my stomach started to hurt!  Like really bad!  It was my upper right abdomen.  Then that morphed into some pretty gnarly nausea during Sacrament meeting!  It was not hard for me to decide to take Jack home when he leaned over and mouthed that he felt really sick and wanted to go home.  I wanted to too!  I felt SO SICK the entire day!!  Like I really thought I was going to throw up a few times.  Once at church and then a few times later on.  It was so bad!  And my back started hurting with it!  It was so awful!!  At about 6:00 the nausea had all but worn off and I was starting to think it was like an inflamed organ or something.  So because I didn't feel like throwing up anymore I took some ibuprofen.  With the hopes it would calm something inside me down.  Well, that was the ticket!  It totally helped!  I ended the evening feeling like a million bucks!  It was so awesome!  Weird, but also awesome!  It was so strange because Jack was having horrible stomach pains also and so I wondered if it was the same thing, then concluded it couldn't be, but who really knows.  And with how similar it was to Kelly's... so strange!!  But glad it went away.  3-20-22

A COOL LITTLE PROMPTING
Sunday morning, when I wasn't sure what I wanted to do for my study session (I was low on time), I felt the need to just read through the chapters in genesis that we'd been studying all week, because I hadn't finished them yet.  So I read about the last three chapters.  It was really informative and I was glad I read them, but the really cool part was when Charity called me asking some questions about the very things I had read because she'd been asked, last minute, to teach Sunday School!  So cool!!  I was so glad I had read those chapters.  I didn't know the stuff off the top of my head otherwise.  I like it when I listen.  3-20-22

DENTIST AND THEN LACROSSE
Kelly had a dentist appointment and made it down (with her coworker because she had taken some of the Tramadol recently) just in time for it and then while we took her back home, Bradley, Erika and I went up to her second lacrosse game!  That was a lot of fun.  Road trip feel on the way there, lots of fun watching the game.  And then some nice conversation on the way home.  I loved it.  Kelly's team won by a mile.  That was a lot of fun.  She has been talking Brad up pretty big so she was happy to introduce him to the team :).  So that was fun.  Kelly's fun roommate, Camie, came for the game as well and drove her home from there.  3-21-22

LUNCH WITH ANNIE
Molly, Sadie and I got to go to lunch with Annie again!  I loved it!  We met up at Kneaders and talked the entire time.  It's so fun to talk to Annie.  We have found a lot of things we have in common lately.  But mostly I feel like she is really good at putting my feelings into words.  She's just awesome.  I wish she lived closer or we could do more together!  Love her!  Molly and Sadie were not on their best behavior, but it wasn't too bad.  3-22-22

NOAH ORTHO
We had Noah's DeFay Orhtodontics consultation Tuesday.  That ended up being really great!  We wanted to make jokes about him putting on gloves before sticking his fingers in his mouth.  They scheduled him for treatments starting next week!  Noah's, "That's how you do this!" comment as we left said it all.  It was really nice to be getting on with things.  He's been very patiently waiting for a very long time!  He's happy to be getting them before high school.  3-22-22

ASPIRE INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE
We had Kelly's appointment Wednesday.  I had been pretty anxious for this appointment every since they called to schedule in the middle of my prayer.  I couldn't help but think it was an answer.  And even if the answer is just to have something to tide us over til July, then I'll take it.  This appointment went really well.  We talked for about an hour, about everything that has happened for the past year, and even a lot of what has happened in the last 18 years!  So much.  There have been a lot of things popping up in my mind since then, of things we forgot while we were there.  But it was interesting to go over everything we have done to figure things out.  All the tests she's had run, all the doctors she's seen.  It's crazy.  This Dr. Brumley seemed to have some ideas, some leads, things we can do.  She is going to run her hormones which makes me so happy because that's all I wanted to the Endocrinologist to do.  So hopefully this gets us somewhere.  We both felt very listened to and like this was a different feel than all the other people we've seen.  So hopefully it is something that helps us.  Especially since it's not covered by insurance.  But here we go!  She didn't want us messing with Kelly anymore, so we opted to stand up the General Practice doc I had scheduled to "induce her period".  I was relieved.  I really didn't want to have to add birth control pill side effects to the mix here.  3-23-22

DISTRICT TRACK MEET
Kelly and I made it to the last half of the District Track meet, got to watch Brad run his 300 hurdles!  That was pretty fun!  I liked sitting there with Nate and Sadie.  I was stressed about the elementary kids being home alone, but overall it was a great time!  Bradley did so well!  Got 6th place on 110 hurdles and 7th on 300, so he was invited to the Finals the next day!  Pretty exciting!  3-23-22

FINALS- BRAD'S FIRST MEDAL!
This was so big!  I checked out the Elementary kids, we packed up some snacks and headed up to the Finals Track meet up at Syracuse High.  We were so excited for Brad to be able to compete!  He did well on his 110, but didn't quite place, I think he got 7th.  Then did really great on his 300 hurdles coming in at 6th place!  We were so excited that he would be able to get a medal and stand on the podium!  His first medal!!!  Pretty awesome!  3-24-22

SADIE'S LIP
While we were at the track meet, sitting in the bleachers, Sadie had made a cute little friend there, a little boy who was about four maybe, that she was running around and playing with.  They were pretty cute together until he barreled into her and knocked her flat on her face!  She had bit through her lip pretty bad and bled all over.  It was so sad!  We were all really sad for the little boy because his parents kind of came down on him and made him sit there by them, no more running around.  We were bummed.  Even when Erika tried to go play with him, he just wasn't allowed.  Poor little guy.  We cleaned up Sadie's owie pretty good, she was pretty tough and didn't complain about it too much.  But had the hardest time at the Pinewood Derby after we got home and she had to wake up from a nap, I think she was just in a little pain still.  3-24-22

PINEWOOD DERBY FOR JACK
Jack got to have his very own Pinewood Derby with all the activity day kids.  This was such a fun idea!  I was so glad they thought of it.  All the less-active parents that this brings out was pretty awesome.  We need more of this stuff in the ward.  Jack was still feeling a little under the weather with his cough and everything, so I don't know if his whole heart was in this, but he had a lot of fun.  He had painted his car to look like a flag which is so awesome :) and did so much of it on his own!  Thankfully Dad helped him a little with the cutting and wheels, but it was mostly his creation.  He placed second a few runs, but not quite fast enough to get a trophy.  But like I said, I don't know he if even cared :).  He's not the most competitive person.  I think he enjoys watching other people win just as much as himself.  Such a cool kid.  He's really been loving having Mrs. Johnson as his Adventure day leader- this has been fun for him.  We all cheered him on, ate cookies, got drinks with cups (Sadie) and just had a great time!  Fun evening.  3-24-22

FEEDING THE DUCKS
Nate, Molly, Sadie and I all made taking Molly to school a little adventure.  We walked over to the ponds to feed the duckies and then to the school.  It was a lot of fun.  It's fun that we live so close to the ponds.  Sadie was a bit of a handful the whole time, pretty cranky, but overall it was a nice time.  And Nate and I finally got to talk a little.  Good stuff.  3-25-22

PORK BITES
Have I mentioned we're back to doing the catered food on Fridays.  Nate's been cranking out delicious food and all our loyal customers buy it every Friday :).  It's been pretty fun.  This week he had an old cousin order, I don't think I've ever met that cousin, so that was fun.  And Melanie too.  So that was cool.  It's been going pretty well!  3-25-22

DATE NIGHT
We finally got to go on a date again!  It's been a few weeks.  We went to Sushi Monster and then to see Uncharted again!  Pretty nice time.  I think we've discovered that those date nights are crucial right now with how busy our life is.  I'm grateful for them.  3-25-22

MOLLY ON TWO WHEELS!
We decided it was time to teach Molly to ride a bike so that we could go on bike rides this spring.  I guess that's all we needed, was to decide to do it because Molly and I got out there, I told her to think of riding on her balance bike and she was pretty much off!  She did so good!  She didn't even fall once during the first hour of practicing!  She really had it down within five or so minutes!  Pretty fun stuff!  I think it helped that Jonah came over on his bike and was showing off his skills.  She's pretty competitive, I think it was the perfect motivation :).  But she was hooked!  She loved it!  Rode around for quite a while and then loved the idea of going on a bike ride later in the day.  She might be the first kid to go on a three mile bike ride on her first day of riding!  3-26-22

BIKE RIDE
We rode to 7-11 (or 11-7 as she kept calling it :)) for slurpees and then to Gailey Park for some playing.  It was Erika, Jack (even though he had been feeling kinda crummy- so proud of him!), Molly, Sadie and I.  We had a blast!  As we were riding past the school, Erika heard a pop and then a loud hissing from her tire.  It had completely popped.  We pumped it up just to see if it would work and it was flat again pretty quickly.  Such a bummer!  Luckily we were able to call Brad and he quickly brought the Forerunner to rescue us.  As we were waiting Molly picked a thorn out of her tire and it leaked flat as well.  We usually try to avoid the bike trail, but didn't because I didn't want Molly to have to drive in the road, but we may not use it again.  I hate all the thorns.  It was a lot of fun though and I was really happy with how much energy I had- didn't wear me out too much!  3-26-22

HELP THOU MY UNBELIEF
I really appreciated Leslee Christianson's testimony today where she referenced when the man told the Savior, "I believe.  Help thou my unbelief."  It really hit close to home.  I have so much faith that what is happening with Kelly right now and the wait to go on a mission is part of her plan, but I do have moments where I'd like to have more control and change it.  Ya know.  I need Him to help me in my moments of unbelief.  To help me remain calm when it seems she is being wrongly dealt with.  It just doesn't seem to fit sometimes.  I hope He can help us to figure out what is wrong with Kelly and get her the relief she deserves and what a better mission it will be if we can get this pain under control first, but also being faithful in the meantime.  Not waiting for that day, but living til that day.  Making the most of our time we Kelly, her making the most of her time here, etc.  I just need to have constant faith.  Iin Natalie's lesson about Elder Bednar's talk, I was trying ot think of a time when I felt like I had been given power beyond my own and I do feel like there's no way I am making it through this challenge on my own.  It's weird though because I do still feel like it's too hard.  Ya know.   It still feels like a challenge.  3-27-22

WARD CHOIR
Got some bad news about the Easter choir program, it was just going to be one song and it's a weird song and a lot of people have expressed that they are not going to participate and are finally taking a stand.  I wanted to join them because I miss the way choir used to be.  On Sunday, Norma Barrett apologized for not getting the message to me that choir had started and gave me a personal invite. It was then that I started to think maybe I need to go.  I can't say I enjoyed it.  It's till not a great experience, minus that I get to sit with Barbara Farnes and Deanne Oliekan and giggle the whole time, but I felt like I was putting my own comfort on hold so that I could sustain our choir director and thus our Bishop and my Savior.  She's been called to direct our choir and I want to be sustaining.  We'll see how it goes.  It's totally not my favorite, but I feel right about doing it.  3-27-22

KELLY'S HORMONES
We went in on Monday for Kelly's bloodwork- she was supposed to come first thing in the morning, having fasted and being less stressed (as if that is a thing with Kelly).  We ended up being there for a whole hour talking about CRPS with Dr. Brumley.  It was really interesting that she came up with that same diagnosis that Kelly had a while ago.  The same diagnosis that got us the Pain Clinic referral.  Kind of funny.  She had been researching it all weekend.  I'm not sure how I feel about it.  I get mixed feelings from the medical people I talk to.  But I found out that CBD oil could be a form of treatment for it.  I'm really curious to see if that would help, or how she would do with it.  Makes me want to try it.  We'll have to see what the hormone test tells us. Kelly doesn't seem to be as excited about these discoveries as me.  3-28-22

BRAD AND SADIE
Brad opted out of his teeth cleaning this week, wasn't planning on it because he thought he would be doing more for track before his invitational and we had already made arrangements to have Luke take his place, but I saw the opportunity and asked Bradley to take care of Sadie for me while I took Luke :).  It was the perfect set up for me.  I thought he might be able to carry on his nap if he just turned on a show for Sadie after I left.  And I was actually okay with that.  But much to my surprise Bradley did just the opposite!  He got up, put her shoes on, and the two of them walked over to the ponds!  They said they forgot the bread to feed the ducks, but they had some fun stories, Sadie dropping her shoe in the water and Brad fishing it out, lots of fun!  I was so proud of him!!  He is such a good big brother and really magnifies that calling in his life.  With all of his siblings.  It was fun to hear from several observers in the ward who had witnessed them over there.  Such a good brother.  I love these moments.  3-28-22

COACH KELLY
Kelly's team was playing at Weber this week, so we couldn't resist making it part of our FHE on Monday.  We all piled in the car and drove up to Weber High for her game.  It was fun to watch her coach and fun to watch everyone get into it and be happy for her and their win.  I loved it. It was really fun that Paul was actually one of the refs at this game.  She had just got done saying how fun it would be to have him coach.  We stopped at a shoe store on the way home for Luke's spikes. 3-28-22

FHE
Kelly's game was my lesson, so we just had Erika's game, King Pig.  It was really awesome that the kids were so bummed when I said the game was our FHE, so I was more than happy to do all of the other stuff.  So cool that they still love this.  I wish we were doing better at making it a priority.  3-28-22

NOAH GOT BRACES
Pretty exciting and somewhat painful stuff, but we were kind of excited for him.  I wrestled with Sadie and Molly for the entire two hour appointment, watching Sadie scoot backwards on the floor through the place was entertaining- if you like that sort of thing.  Noah looks great!  Looks older!  I made sure to get him a bunch of soft foods to keep him fed for a few days.  He's been pretty tough about it, just keeping up on the ibuprofen.  Here's' to the next 22 months!  3-29-22

SOCCER
We're starting up with soccer practices this week!  Pretty exciting!  Noah, Erika and Molly are our soccer players this season.  They aren't thrilled about the new uniforms, but I think we'll survive.  Noah has his same coach and most of the same players as last time, so he's feeling good about that.  Erika has Emily again, on Kate and Morgan's team.  Can't go wrong there.  And Molly is going to have two friends on her team this time!  That's been really exciting.  Kenzie- her bestie from school and Elaina from Music Makers will be on her team and she gets to have Karen Wright as her coach!  So fun!  3-29-22

KELLY HELPING WITH ERIKA'S POSTER
I went out on a limb and asked Kelly if she could help with Erika's poster.  It was a long shot, since she had been down the day before for her blood draw, but surprisingly she was able to do it!!  We were so exciting!  She came down after lax and helped with the lettering on Erika's SBO running poster.  Nate also helped!  It was so cool!  I was so grateful for her help and that Erika had her to be with that night while she worked on it.  Cool kids!!  3-29-22

ONE CAVITY AND SIX CAVITIES
I took Molly and Jack to get teeth cleanings today (clearly this is teeth cleaning week) and Molly had been so excited for her $10 shopping spree that when Dr. Morgan said she had one it was like her whole world came crashing down.  It was really devastating.  I felt so bad for her!  She actually does take pretty good care of her teeth.  Then that on top of not having time to RIDE her bike to school and just dropping it off was just too much for her to handle.  Not her favorite day.  I felt bad.  She had been so happy to go to the dentist!  Then poor Jack, I mean, he doesn't seem to really care, but poor Jack has six cavities.  This was not our best trip to the dentist.  We have slacked off on teeth brushing obviously.  3-30-22

ALPHA INVITATIONAL AT TIMPANOGAS HIGH
I was so excited Brad made it into another invite!  We both were.  He was going to run the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles so I made plans to be down there right at the beginning and planned on staying for quite a while til the middle when they usually do the 300.  Well, I should have looked more closely at the schedule because they were doing things in a totally different order and there were about 20 heats for every event!  If I had noticed that I would not have stressed about getting there as early as I did.  I showed up at about 3:00.  After a half hour or so Brad called me and informed me that his ankle was hurting enough that he wasn't going to run the 110 and was just going to do the 300.  I was a little bummed, but he needs to do what's best for his body of course.  I really didn't think too much of it until another hour had passed before the 110 hurdles.  I started to realize that I was going to be there much longer than I had anticipated!  It was 5:00 before they did the 110 and then another THREE HOURS LATER before they did the 300 hurdles!  I couldn't believe it was so long!  Those bleachers are not the most comfy place to sit for that long!  I did go on a few walks and I was parked so far away that any time I went to the car it was a long walk as well.  The bathrooms were a little walk also.  So I wasn't completely bored.  I actually got a lot of reading in and listened to a few podcasts, so it wasn't a complete waste.  I especially loved the time that Brad had pity on me and sat and talked with me.  He's such a good friend.  I loved that part.  I caved and ate a hamburger for dinner- it was amazing!  And then at 8:!5 I finally got to move over by the finish line to get ready to get a video of his run.  It's crazy that these kids sit there for six hours all for one little less than a minute run!  But I was so proud of him and how well he did!  He didn't PR which bummed him out, but he was the first one in his heat to cross the finish line- actually by a long shot.  Which he expressed was kind of fun.  I don't think his heart was in it like he needed it to be.  But he did great and I loved watching him and being there with him!  I was really grateful that Nate and the kids were able to hold down the fort at home and tried to treat it like a day off for me.  I was a little relieved he didn't make it to the finals the next day though, if I'm being honest :).  While I was sitting there, Jami sent me a really sweet picture of Luke in his track meet, mid hurdle jump!  It was so awesome!!  He has incredible form!!  I wish I'd known I could have watched both boys' events, I would have loved to have been there for Luke.  But all is well.  3-30-22

A NUHNEE GAME
Sadie and I played a LOT of games on Thursday together.  Holy Moly!  She really couldn't get enough of any of them.  It was good because I had been gone all evening the day before and needed to keep the laundry going, so it kept us home and we were entertained.  I am really glad that she will do those things with me and that we can have fun together still.  3-31-22

KELLY AND HER TEAM
Kelly had a game in South Jordan so she and four of her players stopped by on their way home.  It was a fun little visit.  They had played Juan Diego and totally lost and had crappy refs and everything, so there was lots to talk about, but it was really fun.  They of course wanted to interact with Bradley, and that was fun, but I was just happy to have their cute faces there.  I love that Kelly has involved us in her life on that area.  Fun stuff.  3-31-22

ERIKA'S SKIT- STARRING ERIKA AND NOAH
Erika wasn't allowed to do the skit with anyone in the sixth grade, so she turned to her awesome big brother Noah.  They spent most of the evening Thursday night working on it and perfecting it.  They did a little song and dance routine to America the Beautiful using words Erika and Kate made up.  "Um... ERIKA!  Vote Erika, because she'll serve you well.  She's responsible, shows leadership, vote her for SBO!"  They did such a good job!  It was cool that Noah even missed some of his class for the performance at school Friday.  They were so brave, did such a great job and really represented Erika well.  I was really proud of them and glad the music had worked and all had gone well there.  She really did great!  3-31-22--4-1-22
