We finished reading our book! I really enjoyed this. I don't know that the kids did, but they humored me anyway. When we finished it we really wanted to watch it... so we did :). It was great! I wish we could go see the second one, but it's PG-13!! Whose dumb idea was that?? Kind of bummed. But whatever. 9-15-19
JACK LOVES HIS BABY SISTER!
This is the question he asked me this week. And I may as well mention how much he has been obsessed with all the 9-11 talk this week. He has gotten out our book that tells all about it and has pictures all week. It's interesting to me how fascinated he is by it all. But anyway- here's what he asked me, "Were you alive when the twin buildings exploded?" I said, "Yep! I was pregnant with Charity." And he said, "Good thing Sadie wasn't alive!" So cute. He just loves her so much! 9-15-19
APPLES
My contribution to the Primary practice this Sunday was sliced apples. Took me all of a half hour the morning of. Glad I could do something really. 9-15-19
CHOIR PRACTICE
So, I tried to go to choir practice with a baby. This was a first. We walked in and instead of her being asleep in her seat as I had anticipated, she was fussy. I took her out, walked up to the stand, sat down, realized she wasn't going to calm down, and walked right back out and down to the mother's lounge. It was only a ten minute feeding and she was fine and fell asleep even, but not ideal. I don't know if it was worth it. I got Charity and Brad there which was good, but I might just wait until she's old enough to leave home with Luke in charge and just be a mom for a while. 9-15-19
FUNNY STUFF
This was one of the funniest things I've heard in a while. From both Molly and Noah! Double whammy!
Me: I guess we'll try the other side [talking to Sadie, feeding her].
Molly: Yeah, try the big one.
Me: [laughing] What did you just say? Did you just say "the big one"? That is hilarious!
Then I repeated the funniness to whoever was in the room with me, laughing. Then I looked up at Noah and this was our conversation:
Noah: What are you talking about?
Me: [hesitating, trying to think about how to put it nicely, or properly] My breasts :)
Noah: I don't even know what that is. [acting like I was speaking another language]
FUNNY RIGHT!!! I couldn't stop laughing! Then I realized he was annoyed and said, "Baby bottles, Noah :)" and he just walked out of the room. I think I embarrassed him. oops. But seriously, so funny! 9-16-19
RACE CATS
We started back up with Race Cats again this year! Noah, Erika and Jack this time. This week was their first week of it. I hope it ends up being something they love again. 9-16-19
SADIE WELL CHILD CHECK-UP
We took Sadie in for her two month. She was so brave for the doctor and let him do everything he needed to do. Didn't give him any eye contact or smile, which caused him to worry a little, we will "watch her for a month" to see if that improves, but other than that, she is a perfectly healthy and growing little girl! She did so good with her shots even. Screamed, but then stopped immediately. The sad part was for the next 24 hours, she was whimpering if we even looked at her little thighs. It was the sweetest, but saddest thing I've ever seen with a baby. She is a little princess for sure. 9-16-19
MORNINGSIDE
Bradley got to go to his first morningside! Pretty cool. I wish I could go to those things. Sounded really cool. I had to take him his lunch as he was walking home with Rachel and Molly. He is so grown up these days! Hard to believe my baby Bubba is not going to be my baby soon :). 9-17-19
MUSICAL REHEARSAL
Noah and Erika had their first rehearsal on Tuesday. That was pretty exciting! This has been a very fun thing for those two to look forward to. I hope they enjoy it as much as they want to! 9-17-19
SADIE'S FIRST BLOWOUT!
This was her very first blowout! Hopefully there aren't too many more :). It wasn't horrible, just memorable. 9-17-19
WARD WALKABOUT
We had the ward walkabout this week. The young men and young women help with it, so I was without Nate the whole time. Basically it's the leaders that run it... who are we kidding. But anyway. I totally lost Molly during it. That was annoying. She NEVER goes anywhere without me, so it was pretty shocking to learn that she had gone up to the Carlson's house while I was still at Kirkham's. Crazy little lady. Luckily Travis found her for us. I was halfway home when I found out. It was a great night to try out the Infantino baby carrier Becky gave us, she seemed to like it until it got too cold out. It'll be really nice to have. 9-18-19
NOAH YEARBOOK
Noah has been on the yearbook committee this year. Had his first meeting this Thursday. This has been a cool thing for him since he didn't make student council. Sounds like he will have fun. 9-19-19
THANKSGIVING POINT WITH GRANDMA AND SIMON
My mom was telling me about her "Stay-cation" they were having this week and how they wanted to go down to Thanksgiving Point and I mentioned that if she invited us to go we could get them in for half price :). So she obliged. I told her to choose what she wanted to see and she chose the Ashton gardens. This was a fun day. Nate was off so he, Molly, Sadie and I all went down there. It was pretty, but best of all it was a nice time with Simon and my mom. We walked the entire gardens, slowly, but surely, and then had dinner at the little cafe at the top. It was a fun day. I hope the waitress was exaggerating about the preauricular sinus on Sadie's ear. She said she has to "clean out her daughter's because it gets stuff in it..." kinda gross. We'll see I guess :). 9-19-19
LAST DAY OF THE MARKET
This was the last week for the Market. We tried to re-create the week before with a walk down there, Jack, Molly, Sadie and I, but it wasn't quite the same with all the wind and sprinkling. We weren't there for long before the rain scared us away. The walk home was less-enjoyable, and Jack and Molly were not as happy as the week before. It was cold. But we tried. Might have been all the walking we had done earlier in the day. Either way, we're all a little relieved to have the market over with. A whole day more with Nate. 9-19-19
JACK AND THE CHEVY SILVERADO
Friday night, Nate was working, I sent Kelly and Erika out with Luke to go to Clemens's for a movie/pizza night, and to Little Caesar's pizza for us. I was sitting at home nursing and keeping track of littles. It was actually a quiet peaceful moment in the evening, but picked up pretty quickly. Just as Kelly and Erika walked in the door, I got a call from Julie Shaw. I almost didn't answer if I'm being completely honest because I assumed she was going to have questions about the Deacon activity that night. But I answered.
Me: Hello?
Julie: Hi, Christa?
Me: Yeah, how are you?
Julie: I'm good, but you need to come to the corner of Burton and the frontage road right away. There's been an incident.
Me: What?
Julie: Your son was hit by a car, you need to come to the corner right now.
Me: [in a total panic! and handing Sadie to Kelly just as she walked in the room] Is he okay?!!
Julie: I think he's going to be okay, but you need to come right now.
Me: Am I going to have to take him to the hospital?
Julie: I don't think so. I'm going to let you go so you can come here.
It was a most dreaded call and one that totally sent me reeling. I can't believe the adrenaline rush when I didn't even know which son it was! So I hopped in the car and drove over to the corner- shoulda just walked obviously- and first thing I saw was Jack and Brad sitting on the curb. They both looked fine, so that was a relief, but I needed to know for myself! Also, I needed to know who it was! I got over there and everyone seemed completely fine. There wasn't even a lot of panic in the area. So I calmed down immensely. I knew that with Julie Shaw involved it may have been over dramatized, but wasn't sure til this moment. I was able to talk to Brad and found out that he had been walking a few feet in front of Jack as they crossed the crosswalk. He had seen the gruck coming toward them and realized that the driver was not paying attention, so he began walking back towards Jack and flagging the guy down to get his attention. It was nice to hear that Brad had been trying to take good care of his little brother. Then I knew that Jack was the one who was hit, I sat down with him and was able to hug and love on him before asking what happened. He told me he got knocked over by the truck. His elbow was hurting when it happened, but by now it wasn't really bothering him. I was SO RELIEVED!! It was great to feel like he was going to be fine. There was even an EMT there, who had witnessed things and she had looked him over and confirmed that he seemed to be fine. He hadn't hit his head even. The guy driving the truck was still there, I was like, "Who hit him?" and the guy raised his hand. Would have been the perfect opportunity to say sorry, but I guess he didn't notice. He mentioned that he slammed on his brake as soon as he saw Brad flagging him down and just tapped Jack. It didn't help that Jack was wearing Brad's over-sized hoodie and probably didn't even see the truck coming. So it was interesting to get the whole story. It occurred to me that they must have had help. Someone was watching over them, protecting them. This is always a cool thought to me and very reassuring. I would have been fine to take him home right then, but of course, Julie had involved the police (which was probably good) and they had involved EVERYONE ELSE! I'm not exaggerating, we heard the sirens and then everyone started pulling up to the scene. We had two police cars, a firetruck, ambulance, the Sheriff and even the K9 Unit!! It was a little excessive, I felt a little weird about it all, but we followed through with all the hoops. Jack and I went into the ambulance so that they could check him over. This was actually really cute. The EMT was checking his vitals and talking to him about the accident and totally went into how strong he must be to come out of getting hit by a truck with only a little bump on his elbow! "You must be super human or bionic or something!" And "I'm going to have to use another blood pressure cuff because your muscles are too big for this one!" It was really cute. Jack giggled a few times. I was glad they were making it a positive experience and that he will never be afraid of police or EMT's. I had to fill out some forms which were called witness forms, so I thought it was weird considering I didn't witness anything, but whatever. Hoops. As we walked out of the ambulance we could hear the dogs in the K9 Unit barking. That was when I realized they were there! Felt a little excessive. Heather Scott had heard about it and stopped to check on me, so that was nice and when it was over, I called her and mentioned that I felt bad they had dispatched everyone. She said it was normal and fine and that they need things to do in Kaysville, so I felt better. It was pretty crazy for my little Jack and also my Brad! I realized I hadn't even hardly checked on Brad. That must have been pretty traumatizing to see your little brother whom you love so dearly hit by a truck and almost run over. He handled it so well. I hope he really is okay. We all piled into the car and since we'd been sitting out in the cold so much, needed to get ourselves some hot chocolate! So to Fiiz we went. When we got back the police lady was parked across the street. She came over, gave me all the info about the case number and such, told me how to contact the guy who hit him, and then took some pictures of Jack's elbow. And that was that. It was a pretty crazy little whirlwind that I hadn't expected to have hit us that evening, but such a relief that everything was okay! We are so blessed. It was little harder for me to let everyone go out and play night games in the street that evening, letting my little birds leave the nest after such a near tragedy... but we tried to carry on as usual. There was some funny drama with Emily thinking Natalie had said it was Jaxx Thaxton and involving Kellie Thaxton and stuff, but overall, pretty uneventful. Jack got a LOT of attention from pretty much everyone all evening.Ross came to visit Jack and gave him a cool football thing which was pretty cool. Jack ate up the attention. I was glad he was able to enjoy it in the comfort of his own home. 9-20-19
