Things to Remember Week of 11-5-17

TESTIMONIES
Jack was so cute today in Sacrament meeting.  His little eyes lit up when he asked Nate, "Is it fast Sunday??"  This is a very exciting thing to him now that he's learned he can bear his testimony.  It's been a lot of fun to see him brave this.  He's so shy normally that it's almost shocking that he goes up there and says so many wonderful things.  Things that are actually his testimony.  I loved it.  My favorite part was when he said, "I know I need to be good to my family at church." and "I know that I need to choose the right."  So pertinent :).  Then Noah bore his testimony and did such a great job too.  I could listen to these kids bear testimony all day.  Charity was next- she talked about the talk I had told her about this morning!  She had taken it a step further though and learned something completely different than I'd intended on teaching.  Pretty cool experience to realize that Heavenly Father was using me in a way I didn't even know.  She's growing up so much!  It's fun to see them all growing and their testimonies are growing and they're recognizing the growth!  Bradley bore his as well and talked about prayer.  He was so sweet to share his experience with his race yesterday where he wanted to quit running on the last lap, but said a prayer and was able to push himself the rest of the race.  Pretty sweet.  I love these guys so much.  I wish I was brave enough to get up every fast Sunday.  11-5-17

NO NAP!!!
I did it!  I went a whole Sunday- Fasting no less!- without taking a nap!  And I survived!  It was actually really amazing, so if you're wondering why this is blog worthy- let me just say that for about a month now I've been trying to convince myself that I don't need a nap and tried motivating myself to do fun things with the kids instead and to be part of the home... well- I did it!  And I think I could do it again!  New routine here we come!  11-5-17

CHARITY REHEARSALS
Charity started her everyday rehearsals week.  It's been a doozie!!  She's worked so hard though and (hopefully, like she says she has) has kept up on her homework while attending rehearsal every evening from about 5:00-9:00, 10:00 some nights.  It's been nuts!  But we're all getting very anxious to see this play and all the beautiful fruits of their labor!  I know it's going to be good just based on the hours and hours they're putting into it.  So proud of her!  11-6-17

FHE
For Family night this week it was Jack's lesson.  He had us arm wrestle each other :).  It was so cute and so fun.  I loved that he thought of this idea.  Everyone had a great time, If I remember right- I beat everyone and was completely undefeated the entire time.  Just kidding.  I love it when Jack is in charge because he doesn't let anyone walk all over him.  He makes sure everyone knows who's boss.  We had Nate's No-Bake cookies for the treat.  Good times.  11-6-17

PTA BOARD MEETING
Our board meeting went pretty well this week.  Except that nobody who needed to be there to talk about their activities was there, which annoys me.  But whatever.  It kind of doesn't matter.  I'm still trying to figure out if I should do the whole President thing again.  I'm not convinced that it's the best thing for my family.  11-7-17

BOOK FAIR
So this week it occurred to me that Jami and I are volunteering to help everyone when we don't need to.  We need to step back and let everyone else do their thing.  We need to make it so that people who don't usually volunteer can come out of the woodwork.  It was a busy week for us with Book Fair and SEP dinners, Guests and Goodies and Parent Teacher Conferences.  We were at the school a LOT.  The only thing we should have been there for was counting money.  Not setting up, not taking down, not setting up the dinner for the teachers- there were committees for those positions and we did not need to do all that.  I wish I was better at not volunteering for things.  I have a tendency to think that if I don't do something it won't get done.  Duh.  I will work on that.  11-7-17

PLAYGROUP
So nobody from our ward showed up to playgroup, but there was this cute young mom there with her two boys and a baby.  For the first little while she was sitting in her car feeding her baby, but when she came out, she and I started talking.  It came out that I have 7 older kids and she started asking me for advice.  Having just had her fourth boy she was struggling with how to make it work.  It's always funny to me when people ask me what they can do with the big family thing.  Like there's a quick answer for that :).  Although, if I had to pick one word it would be consistency.  But anyway- it was a cool experience to be able to tell that mom that she didn't seem to have anything to worry about.  Her boys were nice to each other, even being fun with Molly, they were clean, happy, healthy, her baby was too- she was doing a great job as a mom and it showed.  Moms need to hear that more than what they can do differently sometimes.  She seemed pleased with my comment about how when you have all boys, who cares if they act like boys together?!  They are!!  They're having fun, they're enjoying each other's company.  As long as nobody gets hurt what does it matter?  Then I got a phone call from Brooke, basically I'd forgotten about early out and she was at my house dropping off Jack and nobody was there to open the door!!  So I'm probably the wrong person to ask for advice anyway, but it was fun to not give it.  11-8-17

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
We had another term of awesome Parent/teacher conferences!!  I'm still loving these :).  It was fun to hear how well Jack is improving.  He has really come a LONG way already!!  So proud of him!  Mrs. Piper loves showing off his progress :).  I would too.  And she deserves all the credit!  Erika had her moment with Mrs. Turnbow and got to come clean.  That was a nice little relief I'm sure, once it was over, but it was definitely a tough one for Erika.  She is also doing really well and making a lot of progress.  It was nice to meet Mrs. Olsen and experience that for the first time.  Noah seems to have made a great impression on her and made us all laugh with his harshness on himself.  He is brutally honest about himself.  But it goes both ways, so I think we're okay there :).  He is so good at talking to his teachers still.  Makes me smile.  And Luke is doing great as well!  It's fun to talk with Mrs. Downs because she just loves Luke!  She was really happy with his scores and all that he is doing.  They make us proud!  It's so nice to have such good kids.  11-8-17

JAZZ TIP OFF PARTY
Since there was no mutual this week (Temple week) and since Kelly and I missed the first one, we all (minus Charity) went down to Vivint Arena and got to stand in line to get pictures with and autographs of players.  They didn't have as many activities as they did the first time, but they were doing the free throws on the court and everyone had  blast doing that.  We were all impressed with Brad's two three pointers that he sank!  Go Brad!  Kelly took the littles around to get pictures for the scavenger hunt only to find that they were out of prizes, which was a total bummer!  We were all slightly bummed that they weren't doing the free ticket vouchers either.  But it was a fun night.  Spending time together is good.  So is free.  11-8-17

KELLY'S RUNNING
I've been really impressed with Kelly's motivation and ability to run a little lately!  She's taken it upon herself to get out and go running.  A few times she ran to the school where I was to get a ride home.  But that's a whole mile!  Pretty good!  That's what she was doing with her Lacrosse team, so I'm proud of her for keeping that up.  11-9-17

ONCE ON THIS ISLAND
Charity's play has finally come to fruition!!  This was her big opening weekend.  She got to do her first performance Friday night and then on Saturday we got the bummer news that some power lines had been hit in the night and the power to most of Kaysville was out!  Luckily not ours.  Unfortunately, though, Davis High's power was out so they had to cancel the matinee and then eventually the night performance as well.  Charity was completely bummed about it!  It was pretty sad.

ADULT SESSION OF STAKE CONFERENCE
I really enjoyed the adult session of conference this time!  I got to sit by the Moore's which is awesome, but the talks were really good.  I felt so motivated and uplifted by it all.  It is always hard to go and sit there without Nate, but it's also nice to be able to get out of the house.  11-11-17

11/5/17  Charity Maynes

One of my favorite memories is with Molly and Jack, making chocolate chip cookies :).  Molly always loves to do everything.  She loves to hold the egg likes it's a "baby" and holds it really carefully and it is so cute!  I love having the memory of making treats with them.

Another one of my favorite memories is staying up late with Kelly and something fell behind the bed and reached back to get it and my arm got stuck and we couldn't stop laughing.

one time me and Jack were playing slap Jack.  It was so funny because he only had one card and it was a Jack!  He kept useing the same card.  We were laghing so hard!!

When we were going home there was a creepy guy hung up then it started to spin and it was funny.

2 years ago in the fall me and Luke were raking leaves.  We put them in a pile at the end of the slide.  When we were done I went down the slide. and I may have pee'd my pants.  So when Luke went down the slide he asked me why the slide was wet, He looked at my pants and said Noah! did you pee your pants.

The other day me and erika were fishing and we found a bunch of fishing lures in a tree so we were trying to pull those out of a tree with our fishing lures but we got all of my lures stuck so for about 30 min we were trying to get the lures back and we didn't succeed and we still need to get back and catch them all.

Molly is always trying to be a big kid so she tries to have normal conversations but you can't understand her so its awkward.

A fun/funny memory w/one of my siblings...

11-5-17

A fun memory I have with Charity is when we stay up super late and something funny always happens.  Like one time we were up super duper late and we were laughing super loud and then we rememberd how when we were little we came up with these "laughing pillows" that we used to cover up our mouths whenever we laughed too loud @ night.  And right when I remembered that I laughed so hard that my head flung up and hit the wall.  Which tipped over the chair somehow, then the chair hit the shelf which knocked over the ukulele.  so that was pretty funny.  then there was another time when Charity was sitting in her bed and I chucked a wet towel @ her and it fell down in the crackso she reached down to grab it and her arm got stuck and I just sat there watching her struggle.  Another time Charity wouldn't let me into our room so I backed up to get a running start to have more power to open the door and I didn't know she had backed away from the door so I ran into the door and it flung open and I fell face first onto the floor.

LUKE

One time me and kelly were going to get frosties and treats.  We were riding our bikes but my bikes chain keept falling before so I was worried it would happen on the way there.  It did.  It got stuck and we couldn't fix it.  We said a prayer and right after lisa clark drove by and saw us and took our bikes home while we walked to get frosties and treats.  It was funner without the bikes because we could talk.

recently we were sitting in our car and we were about to get dinner so I told molly to say this: din-ner! din-ner! din-ner.  Molly says: nin-ner nin-ner nin-ner.  so I turned it into a rap.

Funnies

SOME OF THE RECENT FUNNIES- WITH THE KIDS' HELP OF COURSE- my memory is not this good.
-The other night, Luke had earned a "20 minute hug" (long story- he just loves to see how long he can hug me at night- it's totally a stalling technique, but I'll take it), so I grabbed him and put him awkwardly on my lap (he's getting too big :) )while we both giggled about it.  Then, when we'd finally settled and it got quiet, he sqeezed out a rotten, little, fart out of his bum!!!  RIGHT ON MY LAP!!!  SO GROSS!  But still SO FUNNY!!  We both busted up laughing.
- In bed, in the morning, Molly was counting all the bars on her bed, "one, two, one, two, one, two... TWO!!!"  So cute!!
- One time Luke, got a cup of water and said: knock knock

Luke, getting a sip of water, SPIT and said: Spit on you!
- When Charity and Kelly were in bed and trying to draw on each other's faces, so we got into a marker battle after, going back and forth.  And then she tried to draw on my face as part of the battle and her arm slipped and stabbed Charity in the face and left a marker streak on her face.  Then that night- Kelly drew smiley faces on her cheek.  Pretty funny.
- Bradley wanted me to point out how Molly eats Ramen noodles :).  We all love it!!
- Molly keeps telling everyone about how she "Pee.  Bah." (peed in the bath).  I have to keep correcting her because it was actually POOP!!!  SO GROSS!!!  And she screamed bloody murder when it happened.  Since I was in the shower, I thought she'd turned up the water and burned herself again (yes, that's happened too), but to my surprise- it was just her own poop floating around in the water.  So gross.
- Recently we were sitting in our car and we were about to get dinner so Luke told Molly to say this, "Di-nner, di-nner, di-nner" but Molly says it like this, "Ni-nner, ni-nner, ni-nner" so Luke turned it into a rap like this, "Na na na na na na ninner, na na na na na na na ninner!" and she snaps her fingers around like Luke.
- When Luke was playing on the computer, he was playing a game and then Molly likes to pound on the keyboard whenever I do it and she was doing that so Luke said, "Molly, that is not okay! Don't do that!" and she yelled back, "IT OTAY!!!" over and over again.  They got video to prove it.
- Noah was laying on the floor calling out Molly's name really cute and she came running over and tackled him.
- One time Luke was down in the creek fishing and he told Bradley he was bored and would go back upstairs and to the house, and he went up there and he saw Molly sitting next to a broken jar, holding a bag with a bunch of M&Ms in it.  When Dad told him the story, he said that Molly had tried to get some candy out of the jar and kept talking about how the jar broke.  She was so cute about it.  Dad told her to pick up the m&ms but she kept snacking on them along the way.
- Nate was looking for his charger and Molly pointed to the end table drawer and sure enough- that's where it was!
- Kelly walked with Molly around the entire block and it took like two hours, but she had to stop and walk up to everyone's porches and touch the pumpkins.  Then she taught her how to step on the cruchy leaves.  It was pretty cute.  Now she thinks of Kelly every time she steps on crunchy leaves.
- Whenever we drive by the animal house Molly always has to go, "Hi mammos, bubye mammos!" Very routinely.  It's hilarious.
- Molly makes us take a walk to see the animals at least once a day.  Usually more.  She misses the Halloween decorations already.  "Bido??" (Spider)
- Molly was watching Charity get jammies on and noticed that she wears the same thing that mommy does.  "MOMMY!!!" pointing and very thrilled to notice the similarity... cute girl.

Things to Remember Week of 10-29-17

NO SCHOOL/DENTIST
So I did the horrible mom thing and scheduled dentist appointments on the kids' day off.  I know that makes me the worst mom ever.  It was also the day before Halloween if that's not enough!  Charity also had to go rework some stuff in Math and then go to a Costume fitting that day as well, so not as much of a day off as any of us would have liked.  We spent a lot of time piddling around though :).  And actually got more ready for Halloween so that was good.

THE AFTERMATH
The day after Halloween felt a little bla.  I'm sure it had plenty to do with the sugar the day before.  But it just felt bla.  I was running around like a crazy person trying to get the house cleaned up without waking up Nate.  We were late for Playgroup and missed Emily which was a total let down.  Of course, there was one good thing about that- since I'd told Molly we were going to the park, she insisted that we stay.  So I followed her around on the playground a little and got to watch her brave the bridge!  She's been doing this a lot with Nate and with Charity when they've gone to the park so I hadn't seen her yet.  She was so proud of herself and showed me a few times with great excitement!  It was super cute.  She's so deliberate in all that she does.  Then I got her to brave the twisty slide which she LOVED!  It was super cute.  So I got to spend some much needed quality time with Molly.  I think she deserves more of this, but it is definitely few and far between that we have the opportunity.  So blessing in disguise I guess.  Then Natalie showed up so we still got some adult interaction time :).  That was nice.  I think the more non-Primary interaction Natalie and I have, the better.  11-1-17

LUNCH WITH EMILY
Emily and I tried a new restaurant in Farmington called Franciscos.  It was really good!  And we of course had a great time, almost kidless, just cute little Jonah to smile at the whole time.  Felt good to hang out again. It's been too long.  11-2-17

FIVE HOURS!!!
So, Thursday was the big day!  I had no idea how big it was going to be until I'd been setting up Reflections night for FIVE LONG HOURS!!  HOLY SMOKES!!  And looking back, I think it was mostly setting out the entries that took so long!  That and the banners.  But it was a lot of fun to hang out with Krista and thankfully Charity and Kelly tag teamed it and helped too.  Lots of work!!  I will NEVER be over Reflections.  I can say that right now.  Krista did an amazing job though!  I'm so grateful she was willing to take that on!!  I owe her big time!  11-2-17

JAZZ TIP OFF PARTY
So since Krista had already been stood up by most of her "committee" I decided she needed help and stayed there while Nate took everyone else (minus Charity and Kelly) to the Jazz Tip Off Party.  I totally missed out.  And I'm still bitter about it.  Just saying.  But they all had a great time and hopefully we can recreate it at one of these other ones that they are doing.  I'll have to have them write about it and we can post Nate's pictures.  I did hear that Erika made two shots from the free throw line along with some of the other kids!!  Pretty amazing!  11-2-17

LIFE INSURANCE PHYSICAL
We finally had our Life Insurance physical on Friday.  Nate's been working hard to get his cholesterol down since the last one a couple years ago, so this was pretty big!  Hopefully it paid off.  I was pleased with most of the things in my physical, but my low blood pressure really got me thinking.  I have a lot of weird symptoms lately that I figured could probably be attributed to that!  Which is kind of good, kind of not.  But really, it's not TOO low, so I'm probably fine, just some possible answers really.  We'll see how the blood work goes I guess :).  I'll be shocked if mine isn't better than last time.  11-3-17

BIRTHDAY TABLE WITH ERIKA
We did the weirdest thing ever this time and brought Erika Wendy's!  No pizza, no Pizza Pie Cafe Oreo Pizza, just Wendy's kids meal.  Which is what she requested, but I'll admit it felt very weird.  And I was bummed the boys didn't come up and say hi :).  But it's cuz we didn't have pizza!  We had fun talking with Erika and she seemed to enjoy the spot light a little.  It's always so short lived though!  Not long enough that's for sure.  We kissed her goodbye when she saw some of her friends go out to recess and then sat and talked to Shera til we needed to clean up our chairs :).  Fun stuff.  11-4-17

BASKETBALL
Erika's season started up!!  She played her first game on Saturday (yes, after running her little heart out!).  She's got a great team!  I think they'll be great!  It's SO FUN to watch her play.  11-5-17

Things to Remember Week of 10-22-17

BLESSING

Monday morning I woke up feeling about the same that I had all day Sunday.  Not good.  I was really drowning in my negative thoughts and needed help getting out.  Luckily, Nate was here and very available to help me.  We talked and he gave me a priesthood blessing.  It was a much needed blessing that I have kind of put off getting for a week or two now.  Not because I didn't want it, the time just wasn't right ever.  But this morning, I was able to open my heart to the Spirit and feel the guidance and inspiration that I think will really help me pull out of this hole.  I'm sick of feeling like a failure and feeling like I'm not needed or loved.  I don't need to feel this way.  Satan is magnifying the negative in my mind and making it bigger than it is.  I really am so blessed and have so much to be happy about.  I wish I was better at finding these things on my own on a regular basis.  I really do have a lot to be grateful for.  I don't want to push people away and I want to be able to recognize the deceptions of the adversary.  I need to use the power of discernment that I have been blessed with.  It is time to wrestle with the forces of the physical world and strengthen my Spirit.  I'm feeling very motivated and pumped up about it.  10-23-17

PICTURE SCAVENGER HUNT WITH OUR FRIENDS FHE
For Family night this week we went to the Clemens's for a fun picture scavenger hunt with the Maughans, Caldwells, Patanes, Mendenhalls and of course Clemenses.  It was a lot of fun.  We were in a group with the Mendenhalls.  We thought we'd be docked points or disqualified for not getting back to the house on time, so we hurried back before getting the last four items.  Much to our dismay, the time was not really an issue.  We waited about 10 minutes before everyone got back and both teams had gotten all but two, so they won.  Kinda lame in my opinion, but I know it wasn't about winning, it was about having fun, and that we did!!  It's fun to have friends to play with.  I so wish someone had older kids- Charity and Kelly's ages, but beggars can't be choosers I guess.  It was a fun night.  I was glad that I didn't go crazy trying to finish costumes that night and everyone just wore something we had already.  That was nice.  We're getting better at recognizing which situations are actually life or death or not.  10-23-17

ELEPHANT PUMPKIN
Gerold and Piggy books have been Erika's favorite for a while now.  She chose the one where Gerald breaks his trunk for decorating her pumpkin!  This was one of those projects that Erika stresses over all month and then we quickly pull it off a few days before (just because that's the only time we had to do it though!!).  She sure did a cute job on it.  I got a little jealous when I saw some of the other pumpkins that other kids did with their parents (or should I say parents did), wishing I'd been able to do more of it with her and have that fun time together, but she did awesome!  It looked fantastic!  10-24-17

STAKE PRIMARY MEETING
I'm only writing about this to remind myself that sometimes I just need to relax and take a breather.  I was all worked up and had been running around like a crazy person on Thursday.  Trying to get everything done between Reflections, pumpkin carving, orthodontist, scouts, you name it.  I had been sitting on the fence about this meeting for a while, not really all that anxious to go and use up another evening of my week.  But I talked myself into it.  I decided it would be great to jumpstart my focus on Primary and possibly scouts.  I had imagined that it would be a very informative, instructional meeting on what we can do with our Primarys and how we can help our kids better.  I had pumped myself up for a great motivational evening and looked forward to doing better at things.  Well, I got there a little late and they were basically taking roll.  Very slowly.  With very little purpose from what I could tell.  Then we sang happy birthday to one of the ladies in another ward.  Then they talked about how much they love all of us.  Then they had a prayer on the food and told us to get some food.  This all was taking a long time and I could only imagine how long everything else was going to take, so I started to get a little antsy.  Luckily Natalie showed up eventually and I wasn't alone anymore.  But then they thanked us some more, and introduced the thing for the evening- they were going to put on a "Sharing time" for us.  I'll admit my heart sank a little.  The rest of the evening was history.  Which actually, at least it wasn't long. They ended at 40 after, so Natalie and I were able to talk photography for a few minutes as we finished up.  But the sharing time they gave just totally tested my patience.  I wasn't in the mood for a script play.  I wasn't in the mood to watch someone act out the Princess and the Pea.  I should have tried harder to get myself in the mood, or just enjoyed the break more, but it was REALLY difficult.  I will do better next time because I now feel awful that I had such a crummy attitude during this, but really, it was all about my expectations and how they weren't met.  I need to work on this for sure.  10-26-17

FLAG FOOTBALL
Bradley has really enjoyed the Flag Football this season again.  He has had to play on other wards and stuff though since our ward hasn't had a great turnout of boys.  But this hasn't stopped Brad, which I think is awesome.  10-26-17

REFLECTIONS
This is funny to post about since none of my kids did reflections this year, but I have to acknowledge my awesome friend Krista!!  She totally took on the one of the hugest projects the PTA has and did it with almost not help whatsoever from the so-called committee of ladies who signed up to help her.  I have felt so bad about being the one to ask her if she would do it at the beginning of the year, but she's been so nice to me still and has done such an amazing job with it all!!  I really couldn't have been happier with how things turned out!  It was awesome!  She even got Texas Roadhouse for all the judges!!  So amazing!  10-27-17

MAYNES FAMILY HALLOWEEN PARTY
The annual Halloween Party was at Grandma Ruthie's this year.  We had soups, played the candy bar game and some of the kids got to go see "The Harry Potter House" in the neighborhood which I heard was pretty amazing!  It was a really fun night!  I especially loved all the compliments on our Zuppa Toscana Soup that Nate and I slaved over during the last possible minutes that we could before needing to head out :).  Good times!  10-27-17

MAYAN MIRACLE 5K
We were so happy that the Maughans told us about this 5K! It ended up being a really cool experience for the six of us.  Charity and Kelly opted out of it (unfortunately, Kelly didn't end up having a tournament that morning, but she says she would have run with us) and stayed home with Jack and Molly.  This ended up being a really nice luxury even though we did miss them and wished they'd been there to at least cheer us on :).  We felt like beginners/newbies registering and getting our shirts and bibs and such.  Everyone had fun checking out all the raffle prizes and the cool skull trophies, while we waited for the race to start.  I'll admit I was a little nervous!  But I was pumped too.  I just wanted to be able to run/jog the whole thing.  I didn't want to stop.  So the race started, the kids were OFF like bullets!  I knew we weren't going to see them again til the finish line.  I knew they were going to push themselves and do their best!  I was trying to do the same.  Unfortunately, I fell short a little.  My stupid lungs were so full of cold air, I could hardly breathe!  It was so annoying!  My legs were fine, but I was lightheaded, my legs kept feeling numb (which according to Erika is perfectly normal!), I did stop and walk for a little of it.  But luckily, I was able to breath better toward the end and was able to "sprint to the finish".  Thanks to Lukey screaming out "FASTER FASTER FASTER!!!" I couldn't bear the thought of my kids seeing me walk that last little bit.  When we got to the finish line we found Erika pale and feeling like she was going to barf, so I set out to help her.  Nate got in line for burritos.  The boys kept us updated on EVERYONE'S times and placements.  It was a lot of fun to hear their excitement!  I was SO PROUD OF MY KIDS!!!  They did so awesome!  And we were all really proud of the Maughans too!!  Travis and Emily even placed!  Pretty cool! So Luke got 1st place, Bradley got 3rd place in their division. I think it was ages 11-19 boys.  Noah got 3rd in his division boys ages 1-10.  And Erika got 3rd in her girls 1-10 division.  Pretty sweet!!  They all got cool skull trophies- so fun!  I don't remember what place Nate got, but I was pretty pleased with my 7th place :).  Even if there were probably only 6 women my age! HA!  Just kidding.  We didn't win a single raffle, but got a few more extra shirts and Bradley got a hat, so that was fun :).  The burritos lived up to Emily's hype :) and we were sold on 5Ks.  We saw a sign for the Thanksgiving one in Farmington and decided we're going to TRAIN and run that one in a month!  Pretty cool stuff.  Thanks Maughans for sharing your tradition with us!!  10-28-17
