Journaling Week of 9-22-13

Just had a really crappy evening for some reason. I hate feeling like I did my day all wrong. I've been doing this long to be failing at it so miserably all the time. Or so it seems. My kids were stinkers tonight I will give myself that. There's a definite lack of respect, towards everything, if you ask me, and I'm really kind if done with it. Maybe I'm tired too, or still getting better from this bug. And I have a feeling my kids are all getting it too, but anyway. Not how I'd wanted the evening to go really.   9-22-13

CELLO
charity started orchestra this week. I'm really proud of her ambition. She tries everything! Hopefully she enjoys it!  9-24-13

MUSIC MAKERS
Becky invited us to her ward's little music makers group this week, so we went on Tuesday. Erika LOVED it!!! Noah did too, but he's too cool to tell us that. I think we're going to start going on a regular basis. I'm excited to have something. 9-24-13

DIXONS
We were able to meet up with the Dixons at Ponds Park. That was a lot of fun regardless of the wind. We had a lot of fun watching the dogs wrestle and playing on the playground with their kids. It's so good to finally get to know some people. 9-24-13

JOG-A-THON
Our school had the first annual jog-a-thin fund raiser on Wednesday. The kids loved it! They were all pumped up to get as many laps as they could, and did a great job! I think Luke did the most, but rumor has it he got an extra half hour. He did 17 laps, Noah and Kelly got to run together for part of it, he got 10 laps she had 11. Bradley did 14. Charity did 6. We have some awesome runners here! They've all been drinking out of their green water bottles. 9-25-13

GENERAL WOMEN'S BROADCAST
I really loved the broadcast this year. Felt like a lot of it just really rang clear in my heart. I loved the emphasis on covenants and teaching our kids about keeping them. My favorite part was during the second counselor's talk, she made an analogy between the inside of the Provo tabernacle being burned and how things happen for a reason. Made me feel good to thing about how Heavenly Father has a plan and things go the way they're supposed to, and for good reason. 9-28-13

Journaling week of: 9-15-13

UNWELCOMED GUEST
So along with the disappointment associated with it, I was also in a world of pain!!!  Yes, I am talking about PMS.  It was awful this week.  Totally journal worthy.  I wanted to die!!!  On top of the pain, I was feeling really nauseated, dizzy, diarrhea, headache like I've never experienced, body aches and some serious fatigue.  I thought for sure it was a miscarriage, but when that was busted, I thought maybe I had just lost too much blood.  I've never had it last so long and be so heavy.  I was content with that conclusion, and the ringing in my ears on Friday confirmed it even more, but turns out it was probably just a bug because Nate came down with almost the exact same symptoms Friday.  Kind of a bummer!  Anyway.  Just thought I should document the week that I almost died.  It really was horrible.  I'm not sure how I survived.  Hopefully it doesn't happen like this anytime soon.

NEW CALLING
So I got a new calling on Sunday.  They called me way early in the week, and had set and rescheduled several appointments with the Bishop, so I'd thought long and hard about what it might be.  I was pretty sure it would have to be a non-Sunday calling (those are always fun :) ), and I'd settled on Scouts, just because it's been a while.  Boy was I surprised when the Bishop said, "Teacher in the Relief Society"!!!  Sheesh!!  Not ready for that one.  I'm totally underqualified for this calling!!  It's a little weird because I had thought about that back when I was praying for help with being in front of people, and thought that would be a calling that would really push me in that area, but I really didn't think Heavenly Father would want to inflict that on my new ward.  It's really scary for me to get up in front of people and talk.  Singing, playing the piano (which is my other calling right now), those are okay.  Talking on the other hand.  I'm not sure why either.  I was so into it when I was younger.  At church anyway, never at school, I loved giving talks!  I loved bearing my testimony.  It was all fun.  Something happened though.  I think it was shortly after we got married.  Anyway.  I've been praying for a chance to fix it though, so I should just be grateful that the opportunity is here.  I'm scared to death still.  I hope I can have a LOT of help to make it at least worth coming to for the Relief Society sisters!!  I would die if no one showed up on my weeks.  Oh well... can't think like that!!  It's gonna be good!!  I hope :)!!  9-15-13

TREASURE HUNT
My cute little Noah and his sweet little sister made me the cutest little treasure hunt!!!  Map, clues, everything!!  So well thought out and so sweetly executed!  I LOVED IT!!  I was so hormonal that day, I think even shed a few tears during it because they'd put so much work and thought into it.  I love that they did that for me.  The prize at the end was a cute little container of a handful of sacrificed Sour Patch Kids- if that's not the best treasure in the whole world, I don't know what is.  They love me :).  Does life get better than that??  9-16-13

FHE
Noah had the lesson this week.  He had wanted to do a "Animal Game Outside" as he had Kelly help him write on a piece of paper :).  Such a big boy, learning how to write and stuff!!  Cutie!  So we all went outside and played capture the flag basically.  I'm not sure how it turned into that, and the next day Noah pointed out to me that we didn't really play the animal game because no one was doing sounds or attacking each other, but I think we were all okay with it.  It was a lot of fun.  Girls against boys.  I think we decided that the boys won twice and the girls won twice.  Lots of fun.  Nate had the treat: ICE CREAM!!  9-16-13

BIKE SHOW
My cute little non-all-day-school-ers and I have a lot of fun together some days.  Other days, it's a little harder to come up with fun things to do.  Luckily we have Noah and Erika's creativity on our side.  This week, they put on a BIKE SHOW for me.  They had totally spent like almost a half hour preparing and practicing it :).  They did a great job!  Some pretty cool tricks too!  I had fun watching them show off.  Jack loved it too which was adorable :).  He pretty much loves anything outside though :).  Especially dirt :).  I love my kids!  9-17-13

DINNER GROUP NO MORE
So Monday during the day, after hours of heating pad and way too much ibuprofen and tylenol, I concluded that this was not going to be a good week for me to do dinner group.  I texted everyone (the two that are left now that Sabrina's son is in the hospital), and let them know I was out this week.  Immediately I started getting texts back about "what's wrong?" "are you okay?" "if you don't want to do dinner group just tell us".  Like really dramatic stuff.  Looking back, I guess it was really strange for me to not do it that week, but I seriously felt so offended that they were jumping to the concclusion that I was not wanting to do the group altogether, all because I cancelled on one week!!  I wasn't the first one to do this!  It was really annoying.  I don't like the double standard.  So it kind of festered over the evening and night, and on Tuesday when I finally talked to Amy on the phone, I just had had enough of it all.  She was convinced that I just didn't want to do the group and sounded like she had just been looking for the opportunity to kick me out, so I just kind of gave up.  I wish it hadn't ended like that, but I really didn't feel an urgency to stay in it at all.  Nate and I had talked a lot about how the group wasn't really serving our needs anymore, and not really serving it's purpose realy either.  It felt like it was getting a little stale.  Either way, I'm out.  It was fun while it lasted, and I think if the opportunity came up with friends around here, I'd take it, but I've got a few new plans in place to keep the whole dinner thing going smoothly.  It's definitely helpful to plan out a menu and prepare things during the day.  I like that better than trying to cram it into my evenings.  They're packed enough as it is with homework and friends and everything else.  So hopefully I can keep this up for a while.  At least until something better comes up.  9-17-13

PINEWOOD DERBY
Bradley participated in his second Pinewood derby!  He didn't have enough time really, to make a new car, so he just used his one from our old ward's that we just did a month or so before we moved.  It was a lot of fun to cheer him on!!  The kids really got into it!  Kelly made a little sign that said, "Go Bradley!"  I loved that :).  Bradley's already making plans for next years :).  9-18-13

DANCE
Charity and Kelly started a dance class this week!  A girl in Nate's Sunday School class, she's 17ish, built a studio in her family's basement and is starting to teach dance!  We're really excited about it, as you can imagine.  They're already looking forward to their Christmas recital!  9-19-13

CELLO
Along with Dance, Charity also signed up to start Cello lessons this week!  Should be interesting to see how she balances all of her responsibilities, but I feel like the homework load at this school is much less than it was at Holbrook, so I think this is more realistic :).  She is really excited!!  It's all done through the school, so it's all free, including the Cello rental, so that's even more exciting :).  I love the sound of the cello, I'm really anxious for her to stsart.  I think she'll pick up just like a pro, just like everything else she does.  I'm really proud of her for being so ambitious and wanting to try something so new and different.  What a great example for her younger siblings!!  So cool.   9-19-13

STAR PARTY
We had our second Star Party on Friday.  It went well.  I could have done with less whining.  But overall, it really was a lot of fun.  Everyone made up their games, and everyone participated in all of them, earning tickets with the stars they had earned from good behavior.  The auction was a big hit thanks to Nate's generous donations :).  I love that my kids have so much fun with these simple little things.  You'd think we'd gone to Disneyland again with how excited they all were!!  And the next morning felt like November 1st :)  Can't wait til the next one!  Lukey says we need to have them at least once a month, but not just once a year :).  Love that kid.  9-20-13

AUNT JEN'S BIRTHDAY DINNER
We went out to Bucca Di Beppo again, for Jen's birthday.  This is somewhat of a tradition now, I think this was the third year.  It was a lot of fun.  Nate had to work, so it was just me and the kids and since Jack didn't really seem in the mood for the whole restaurant experience, I let him hang out with Grandma Hatch.  Erika volunteered to stay with him as well :).  So it was just me and the older five.  Kind of a nice break.  We sat by Uncle Dan and the Taylors.  So lots of fun and laughs there :).  Dan was teasing all the little girls about their crushes :)  That made me laugh.  The boys all goofed around with their cousins.  It was a good time.  Kelly had gone all out and made Jen a cool duct tape bracelet, and card.  Erika made her a card and necklace, and Bradley made her a card as well.  I love it when other people get to experience my kids' love for birthdays and their thoughtfulness.  9-21-13

Journaling Week of 9-8-13

CHOIR PRACTICE
Charity went to her first ward choir practice on Sunday!  She did great and I was so proud to have her there with me.  Even if she is a Soprano :).  I think she had a good time, she keeps singing the song.  She has the most beautiful voice!  I'm amazed at how quickly she's picked it up too.  Cool stuff. 9-8-13

FAMILY MEETING
We finally made it to another family meeting.  It's been a couple months again.  It was a nice time.  I got to do kids time for the 8-12 year olds.  So that was fun.  We played the Signs game but using characters from the Book of Mormon instead of animals.  I thought it was a big hit :).  Hopefully it wasn't too rowdy for Sunday.  9-8-13

FHE
Erika was the lesson and she had wanted to go out for ice cream, but that's really been overdone, so I helped her think of a different idea.  Instead, we made cookies as a family!  It was a lot of fun. Nate had to spend most of the time getting Jack to sleep, but it was a good time.  While they baked, we played the signs game again :).  Good times.  I loved watching Noah figure the game out!!  He was totally into it :).  Just for fun these are the signs everyone chose:
I did a sign for blowing on a trumpet like the Angel Moroni (whom we designated as being in the "King" position)
Charity did a sign for the Lord touching the stones for the brother of Jared.
Kelly did putting your hands on  your head representing Christ blessing the children.
Nate did a bow and arrow gesture for Nephi's broken bow.
Luke did chopping arms off like Ammon.
Noah did the sign for a book like Joseph Smith translating the plates.
Bradley did a sign to represent the stripling warriors pounding their spears to the ground as they marched.
Erika sat on my lap looking cute.  She's not a big fan of these kinds of games.  She gets really shy.  And Jack slept :).
I just love hearing what my kids love from the scriptures.  They really do have favorites.  It's fun to see what touches them.  Good times.
And the cookies were awesome too!  9-9-13

ALICIA AND BABY ZEKE
I got to go up to Primary Children's Hospital and visit my cousin and her miracle baby.  What a fun 2 hours that was!!  I couldn't get myself to leave!  I loved being able to just sit and talk with her one on one, and I loved being able to see the little miracle I'd prayed and fasted for for so many months.  What a neat experience.  I can't believe he's doing so well, and I can't give credit to anyone but Heavenly Father!  It's just incredible!  9-10-13

ZEKE'S BIRTHDAY PARTY
Alicia and Becky invited me to their little family birthday party for baby Zeke.  It was a lot of fun to get together with my cousins and just hang out for the afternoon.  I enjoyed it so much.  I wish I could hang out with them more.  9-11-13

STEVE AND JAUSLIN
We had Steve and Jauslin over for dinner tonight! Nate made his yummy smoked brisket and we all filled ourselves with it.  It is SO GOOD!!!  Everyone just ooohs and aaaahhs over it all through the meal.  It's so fun.  I'm glad they got to come over.  I LOVE having them here.  I love talking with them.  It's my favorite to hear how much Steve knows and loves my kids.  I hope we can be this close forever.  I miss when we were even closer, but it's fun to have them as friends.  Hopefully they weren't too bored or overwhelmed by Jack's crying.  The poor little guy has not been doing well this week.  I am wondering if maybe he has an ear infection or something.  He's just not himself.  It's sad.  He doesn't get his naps the way he should and he's not getting as much Mommy time as he would like, meaning, he is not nursing as much anymore, so that's put a damper on things as well.  Hopefully we can figure things out.  We were glad he cheered up before they left though :).  9-12-13

HEIDI FOR THE DAY!
Friday, Heidi came up so that she could use my sewing machine to hem some pants.  Funny enough, she never even got around to that!  We sat and chatted the entire afternoon!  It was so nice.  And a nice break for all of us!  Nate was off fishing with his Dad, so it was fun to be able to spend the day with my little sis.  She did have to get ready for a wedding dinner toward the end of the afternoon, but it was fun to sit and talk with her while she did that too!  Good times.  9-13-13

KAYSVILLE SOUTH STAKE FAIR~
We finally had the Fair!  We were on the publicity committee, for our ward.  Strange calling with very little responsibility, but it was fun.  And the Fair was a total blast!  The weather could have been better, but the kids really had a great time!  There was free everything!  Hot dogs, cotton candy, scones, snow cones, you name it!  Chili cookoff sampling, all kinds of crafts and games for the kids to participate in, and then the highlight of our day, of course, was the entertainment!  Which our girls had the privilege of participating in!  They had been working on a dance with a bunch of girls in the neighborhood for the last month or so, so this was a long awaited performance!  They did Eye of the Tiger and put on quite the show!!  I was so proud of them!  We all were!  I loved looking down the row of seats and seeing all of Charity and Kelly's younger siblings just in awe.  It was really neat.  Gives me chills just thinking about it, and embarrassingly enough, I almost cried during their performance!  If I hadn't been distracted by the need to turn the music off at the right moment, I would have.  It was neat to watch them enjoy the fruits of their labor :).  They were asked to participate in a little play thing after their dance "because they were so good!"  What a great opportunity for them.  I love all the great experiences our kids have because of our church.  It's neat.  The rain poured during the last half of the Fair experience :).  We made our way into the church to see the exhibits.  Kelly had participated in this as well, displaying a pictures she had drawn.  What a cool thing.  It really was just neat to see it all as a finished product.  After hearing about all the details for months.  Lots of fun.  9-14-13

HOPE AROUND THE CORNER
Saturday night was a sad one for me.  I was 10 days late with my period.  So I had concluded that I was pregnant.  There were a lot of things associated with it all that lead me to believe I was, and I had really started planning things mentally.  I don't know why I do this before finding out for sure, but it's not like this is my first day, I know what it feels like.  So either it's totally in my head, or there's a reason I'm supposed to think I am.  Either way, I was there, thinking I was going to have another baby.  And then after a fun day, and evening with my sweet kids, I was unpleasantly surprised with the proof that I was not.  Another trip to the bathroom where I come out in tears.  It was really a shock and a huge disappointment.  I thought I had prepared myself enough for something like that, but apparently not.  At first I thought it had to be a miscarriage, and insisted that Nate pick up a pregnancy test on his way home from work.  It wasn't the case though, luckily.  Somehow it still feels like I lost someone though.  I really need to learn to not get my hopes up so high.  It was a sad night.  I did however receive an amazing blessing from my sweet husband and that helped a lot.  I was relieved with a lot of the things I was told in that blessing.  And strengthened.  I felt a lot more capable of handling the situation and being patient.  It's always hard for me, and for some reason, even after 7 miraculously good pregnancies and deliveries, I still worry about something being wrong with my body and not being able to carry out the desires of my Spirit.  I'm not sure why that is.  Lack of faith I guess.  But either way, I hope that this was just one of my false alarms.  There usually is one or two before the real thing.
Another beautiful thing that happened as a result of this whole thing was on Sunday or Monday, can't remember which, I was talking with the kids about how prayers are sometimes not answered the way we think they should be, and used Saturday night (and the past week) as an example.  I told them how I had suspected that I was pregnant, but then found out on Saturday night that I wasn't.  There were a lot of things said, but the part I loved was when Bradley chimed in and said, "Maybe Heavenly Father just wants to know how you would feel about it if you were going to have a baby, and that's why he let you think that you were."  Wisdom beyond his years!!  Charity and Kelly exclaimed that they had thought the same things as well.  My thoughts exactly!  It's funny how Heavenly Father will send me messages through the little people who I am supposed to be teaching and raising.  Sure feels like it's the other way around sometimes.  I love my little people.  They are the world to me.  I sure do hope that we get to be blessed with yet another one, someday.  I do know one thing, and that is, hope is around the corner.
I hope so.
