First Day of School

The first day of school came and went!  I can't believe we're back in school!  Summer was, as always, too short.

Charity started 5th grade, with Mrs. Thompson.  Her class has the opportunity to use Netbooks.  Each student has their own computer to use at their desks.  I'm AMAZED at how familiar these kids will be with the internet and technology by the time they graduate Elementary school!  And to think we didn't really even have the internet when I was in Elementary school!  She seems to like her class, and her teacher.  She just seems all grown up this year.  Doing all sorts of new things.  She studied the States and Capitals during the last couple weeks of the Summer, and the first thing she had for homework this year, was memorizing the Preamble! She just turned in her application to be on the Student Council.  Holy moly! 

Kelly started 4th grade, with Mrs. Davis.  She was so happy that Jocelyn was going to be in her class, and she's already just had so much fun.  She "LOVES Mrs. Davis" even wrote it all over the white board :).  We're so excited for what this year will hold for Kelly.  She's already started learning her song to memorize the counties.  She was so quick to get on her reading and recording her reading minutes.  I love her enthusiasm about school.

Bradley started 2nd grade, with Mrs. Owen.  He is a little less vocal about school, compared with the girls, but he seems just as excited about the new year.  He's back into checking out his science books from the library, and he started Beat the Clock this year.  He's already anxious to beat his last time, which I think is very cool, and very Brad-like.  The cool thing to play at recess so far has been dodgeball.  His teacher says he's a sweetheart :).

Luke's teacher had this cute little sign to take pictures with... so we did :).  He's starting 1st grade (man, I can't believe my little Lukey is in FIRST GRADE!), with Mrs. Buttars.  He seems to love being at school all day.  Lunch was the new thrill, and he has said mostly good things about school lunch so far :).  He's been working so hard on his homework already, and does his best work all the time.  I'm so impressed with how well he focuses at school and that he is able to learn the stuff that he is.  Luke's just growing up too fast!

Nate and I were both able to be there for the first day, which was fun!  I was bummed (as were most of the family) that I wasn't able to walk.  But it turned out to be a really enjoyable morning.  We had the flag ceremony and then everyone hugged Dad and Mom goodbye, and they were off!  I made the rounds one last time, to make sure everyone was safely with their teacher, and to help hold back the tears.  And then it was over.  The Summer was over.  

Hopefully the kids have a nice school year and we can have lots of days without tardies and do a good job keeping track of our reading minutes :).... here's to another school year!
