So back on Wednesday, the day AFTER Spring Break, we had the opportunity, through Nate's work (actually through the union, but you probably don't need those details :) ), to go to the NEW Museum of Natural Curiosity before it officially opens to the public!! We felt very privileged! So privileged that we kept the big kids home from school for the day! This was big :) and Spring Break just wasn't long enough anyway.
We were a little surprised to see probably several schools there for a field trip day (since we were told it was just open for ATTCA, which made the place pretty crowded for the first couple hours, but it totally died down after lunch time.
That is a REALLY FUN PLACE!
Charity's favorite part was "Kidopolis". She loved going around from room to room, pretending to be a train controller, working in a dance studio, as a vet, movie theater, and the mail system.
I can't remember Kelly's favorite part- I will have to ask her.
Bradley liked the Ropes Course. They have these balancing ropes and steps that take you all the way up to the tippy-top of the building, about 30 feet up in the air! He was the only one brave enough to go with Nate and he admits he got a little scared- didn't quite make it to the very top of the course, but he sure felt cool afterward. Looked fun. They have harnesses and stuff, so it's not like it's dangerous, but it sure is high up there!
Luke liked the stretchy bands. This was part of the rain forest jungle gym. It was stretchy nets that you could climb through to work your way up to the top, but they were stretchy, so it was kind of difficult to get through it (So I'm told- I didn't have the pleasure of getting stuck in there :) ). The kdis spent most of their time in the jungle gym.
Noah's favorite part was the jungle gym as well.
Erika liked Kidopolis. She loved the little baby area with Jack where she could plant and pick fake vegetables and then go put them in the bunnies' mouths. She had a lot of fun with Jack and I with the blocks, but she said her favorite part was the drums. They had this little room where you could synthesize, but it was with real instruments being drummed right in front of you with mechanical drum sticks. It was REALLY cool!! That was probably my favorite part too. I loved doing it with Luke and watching him figure out how it all worked. He was pretty good too, at picking out cool rhythms.
Jack loved the balls and the slide. He also enjoyed the music rooms. I didn't dare put him in the jungle gym when all the school kids were there and by the time they left, he had reached his grumpy stage, so I didn't bother.
Nate liked the boa constrictor test. To see how many pounds you can squeeze. Pretty cool little machine, Nate got like 400ish or something. I got up to 275. There were a bunch of little animal tests. To see how high you can jump, to see how quickly you can stop on the lights. Really fun stuff.
We were bummed that the water works area wasn't done yet, but that place will be really cool too. Too bad they're going to charge an arm and a leg to go there... we may never go again! But it was a lot of fun.
You can see the train up at the top of the room. That's the part Charity thought was so cool, directing the trains and making them run smoothly.

You can barely see the big monkey in the background, that's the Chamber of Courage. It was so fun! I really wish I'd taken better/more pictures.
