HALLOWEEN PARTY
We planned a fun little get together with my sibs and even though we didn't really do anything the way we planned, it was still a good time and fun to be with everyone. We'll carve our pumpkins next week I guess. 10-20-14
PRODUCE
I had my first week of ordering and dividing the produce by myself. It was pretty stressy :) picking out the food. There weren't a whole lot of good deals, most of them were pretty average, so that was a bummer, but I think I put together a pretty good basket! 11 apples, 8 pears, blackberries, broccoli, cauliflower, green onions (those were free), garlic, carrots, cilantro, and pineapple! I am liking having so many fruits and veggies in the house now with getting a basket every week between the two co-ops. It's good for us :). 10-21-14
SCANNER
So Kelly and I had the opportunity of going down to Andrea Petersen's to try out her scanner. She's been wanting us to try that for a while and we needed to pick up the new oil for Kelly, so we did! It was so cool!! What it does is scans your body for any deficiencies and then recommends what oils might be beneficial. Kelly had a pretty average score and when we looked at the oils she needed it was so interesting that a lot of them are for things she is actually dealing with!! I couldn't believe how accurate it was for Kelly! Then I had my turn and was blown away by the accuracy. And embarrassed too :). It was weird to see all my problems emotional, mental and physical just laid out there in front of me. I can't say I'm going to jump up and buy all the oils that Kelly and I needed, but it sure was interesting to see. Makes me think there must be something I can do to fix it even more naturally. I'm all for oils, but I'm not all for treating every single thing that ails our bodies. But it really was cool!! I loved being able to talk with Andrea a little too. Miss them. 10-21-14
SOCKS
For mutual we went downtown to pass out socks to the homeless. That was a really cool activity, but when we got back, I found out that I had really missed out on a cool activity. We had been split up in groups, and when I heard the experience that Brook had had there, I was sure I'd done it all wrong. Right after passing out their last pair of socks, Brook saw a Mom, sitting against a wall with three little kids ages around three, two and one. She went over and got down and talked with her. Brook felt bad that she didn't have anymore socks to give the woman, so she literally took the (sweat)shirt off her back and gave it to this woman. She only had a tank top underneath so she had to borrow the Bishop's jacket afterward, but is that not incredible!! I was so impressed! I couldn't believe I'd completely missed out on an opportunity to sit down and love Heavenly Father's children. I just went through the motions. And barely did that, since I just gabbed with Liz the whole time. So anyway. It was cool to be able to witness her Christlike example. I will do better next time. 10-22-14
APPLES
Emily so generously offered to let us pick the rest of her Mom's apples. It was so much fun! I know that fun wasn't the purpose, but I loved it! Hanging out with Emily is always fun. We came home with five huge boxes full of apples. I couldn't believe it! I had no idea we were going to get that many. I hope Emily really would have taken some if she wanted them, because we felt very spoiled!! 10-23-14
VOLLEYBALL
I got to be the "coach" for YW Volleyball this week, Debbie couldn't go. It was so much fun!! I miss that area of YW so much!! It was the big tournament and our team, even though we were small in number and had a few disabled girls, still got into the third round! I was proud of them. We couldn't end the night without a little bit of girl drama, but hey, what would YW be without the drama :). 10-23-14
MELD SCORE 31
We found out on Thursday that Jared's score had gone up to 31, from 26 previously. This was a little scary. Especially when we found out about his failing kidneys. It was what we'd been praying for, but at the same time, felt so unknown. Everyone was on edge of our seats waiting to hear the next update. We knew that when he got up to 40 he would be on the waiting list and so we were sort of hoping for him to get a little worse.... but it was so scary! 10-23-14
THE HAUNTING
Charity's PTSA put on a Haunted House on Friday. Charity had been working on it and planning for weeks, so we were all very anxious to see their hard work. I went a little early (during her set up time) to help her do her makeup and hair to look all scary. Kelly, her friend, Noah and I were all very excited and it wasn't until we pulled up to the school with very few cars around that I realized, this might not be for the family and little kids and such. It hadn't ever crossed my mind. When we got in to pay, I quickly noticed that there weren't any little kids around. I asked a few of the office ladies, taking money, if it was okay if kids came, and they were happy to have us, so on we went. We paid our WHOPPING $10 a piece! SHEESH! And they were all out of the T-shirt tickets, so we got a little permanent marker X on our hands (kinda weird). Then as we walked up the stairs we were handed a wrist band with a number on it. Unsure what the number meant, we walked up and into the gym. The gym was PACKED with teenagers!!! It was obvious this was a dance! I was so embarrassed for us :). Charity was busy scaring people, so at least we weren't there embarrassing her (she may not have even been embarrassed, knowing her, but I was :) ). Then we heard them call out the numbers 51-60 to proceed through the Haunted House. We were numbers 330-334!!!! We had a LONG wait ahead of us!! Kelly and her friend made good use of the tunes and danced their little hearts out. Noah and I sat down and geared up for long wait. Good thing I had my phone :). Well, after about a half hour or so, we heard them announce a "special group for people with little kids that need to get home and go to bed"! We were SO HAPPY! We jumped up and made our way thtrough the Haunted house. It was so cool! I was so impressed with how much work had gone into it, and how much detail there was!! It was fun to see Charity trying to be scary too :). She hates scary stuff. She did great though. Kelly and I were slightly disappointed that they'd kinda gone easy on us since we had little kids with us- we wanted full out! but it was still a really good time. I still can't believe I have a Jr. Hight student! Makes me feel old. 10-24-14
APPLESAUCE
When Kelly and I got home from the Haunted House, we went and borrowed Emily's apple slicer and applesauce maker. What a blessing it was to have Emily teach me and loan me all the equipment and of course, get me the apples! I have now canned!!!! And I loved it!!! Kelly developed a new talent as well! She was a pro at cranking that machine by the time we were done. I was SO happy and even all giddy with each pop of the lid, knowing I'd successfully canned yet another bottle!! Made staying up til 2:00 totally worth it! The time spent with Kelly was awesome as well. What a great bonding experience that was! I will never forget it. And hopefully it's not the last time :). We completed 15 bottles of applesauce and then had three small ones to put in the fridge and then topped off the store bought bottles we had in the fridge (don't know why there were two half eaten in there, but whatever). It was so awesome! We were able to dehydrate a whole bunch as well. I learned that you can freeze apples as well, so I made five batches of apple pie filling and then froze another three or four bags of just the cored, peeled, sliced ones. Such a blessing! Jared moved up to 40 and #1 on the transplant list the next day. Still stressy, but prayers were constant. It was time to pray for a good liver! Tried explaining things to the kids and all I got in the end was, "so you want us to pray for someone to die, just not Jared?" Yeah, pretty much... I guess... 10-24-14
MAYNES FAMILY PARTY
The family party felt a little somber with Jared and Paulette not there, and circumstances being what they were. But we all had a good time. Yummy chili contest, I loved Jen's Thai Soup!!! I need to get a cookbook now, so that I can have that recipe. It was delicious with the Coconut Jasmine rice... mmmmmmm.... makes me hungry just thinking about it. The kids loved the games and all the running around. It's fun when we do things at the church for that reason... plenty of room. Meg and Chris did a great job. 10-25-14
