NURSERY TESTING
So Nate had to leave for work a little early this Sunday- couldn't get permission to come late- so I had Molly. She was not into Primary, like AT ALL, she only lasted a few seconds, so we were out in the hall. Then I got this crazy idea to take her into Nursery! The leaders and everyone in there was so nice! So welcoming! We of course came at just the right time, they were serving snacks! Molly sat down in the little chair at the table and made herself welcome :). It was SO CUTE!! She actually really seemed to enjoy it. She loved watching everyone and followed all the rules :). It was very reassuring- I think she's going to do just fine in there. I might take her another time or two in the next month- she doesn't start officially until March 1st- maybe during snack time again :). Just to get her excited about it. I can't believe my baby is going to be in nursery!! 1-29-17
NUISANCE
So the craziest, most annoying thing happened this Sunday! While we were sitting in Sacrament meeting, Charity looked down the row at me and mouthed "I just found a bug in Erika's hair!" I was a little grossed out for Erika, but didn't think a whole lot of it. I asked how big it was and she held her fingers up so I thought- it must be pretty big if you can show it with fingers, so I really didn't worry about it. Then a couple minutes later Erika was sitting by me and I looked down and saw A BUG IN ERIKA'S HAIR!!! A small, but big bug! I grabbed it and got it out of there, but all heck broke loose mentally for me!! I was kind of panicking. Lice was the first thing that came to me. I tried to talk myself out of it, saying lice are white, or it was too big, or not the right shape... bla bla bla... then it happened! In Primary, I did a quick little google search on my phone and sure enough- it looked EXACTLY like the bug I saw in Erika's hair... EXACTLY!!! UGH!!! I was pretty grossed out and really wanted to just drop everything and go get some chemicals to treat it! Instead, I used some self-control and tried to look up some home remedies. They all looked doable and actually used things I have, so I made plans to suffocate some lice as soon as we got home from church! Of course I had to wait til after choir, and by then I was doubting the home remedies. I wasn't sure I was going to be okay with that. I read up on the lice a little, did some searching through Erika's hair and decided that I needed to hurry and do SOMETHING! So we dumped a bunch of Olive Oil all over her head. I scrubbed it all through her hair all over her scalp and then covered it with some plastic wrap. I ran the comb through a few other kids' hair and sure enough, we had a full on infestation!! There were so many in everyone's hair! I was shocked!! I needed to get rid of these IMMEDIATELY!! But I also had a cub scout meeting. I decided to take a little detour on my way to Shelly's- I just couldn't take it any longer and drove up to Fresh Market to get some chemicals. I'm a chemical girl when it comes to these kinds of things. Natural remedies are great, but I just don't feel like they're as reliable for these things as I want them to be. I knew it was going to drive me nuts until I did it. So I grabbed a couple of kits after talking to my mom a little about all that I was going to need to sterilize and disinfect and sadly throw away. I was feeling VERY overwhelmed at the time! I went to my meeting and then as soon as I got home it was time for Operation Lice Murder! I couldn't believe what I was seeing with each kid. The chemical solution seemed to be helping to remove them and I was hoping it was killing everything in the process. The whole thing took about 5 hours, with putting chemical on the scalp, rubbing it in, then rinsing, then combing, then showering for seven kids! It was a very lengthy, tedious process! I did a little research in between scalps and learned a lot of new information about lice. There was a really informative study done on lice at Harvard University. I found out they can't live without human blood. They die after about 8 hours on anything else. They don't have the right kind of grasping tools to hang on to most kinds of fiber. They are made for human hair! They don't go anywhere else. Including dogs and cats- that was a relief. I learned that I didn't need to disinfect our whole house, or throw anything away. You can decontaminate anything by putting it in a ziploc bag and putting it in the freezer! I learned that they bite, then their saliva gets in where they bite and causes an allergic reaction which is usually expressed through itchiness. This would have been nice to know a few months ago when Erika and I started itching. Who knew. I wish I'd looked into more options besides dry skin, although I NEVER saw anything about lice on any of my searches about itchy scalp/neck/ears. So strange. I actually even called the lice help line which ended up being very informative. The guy told me that it isn't a house infestation it's a head infestation- I don't need to take my couch out and burn it. He said that we needed to comb with the special metal lice comb each night for 2 weeks (WHOA!!! This was still overwhelming to think about). He told me that the chemicals aren't necessarily all that great, but that if I did use them, I need to do the treatment again in 7-10 days. He told me that there is really nothing on the market that kills the eggs, so the combing will pull out a lot of the eggs and then whatever doesn't get pulled out during these 7-10 days, I will kill when it hatches with the chemicals the second time. Kinda crazy, but this phone call was such a blessing! I asked if we needed to keep kids home from school and he said that since we had done the chemicals that wasn't necessary. I was totally overwhelmed all evening with the thoughts of all that I had ahead, I washed all the coats, had everyone bring their sheets, blankets, and pillows to the laundry room, I wasn't still inclined to spray all the furniture with killer- see- chemical girl- but I was not as stressed about it all. We figured out it was probably the sleepovers the kids have been having together that was the real problem. Such a bummer. I fought the urge to not tell teachers all evening, but couldn't help but let them know so that they could tell all the parents in my kids' classes so that they would check their kids and we could stop this in it's tracks. The last thing I want is for my kids to get it back from the person/people they already got it from, or people they've given it too! Oddly enough though, none of the teachers did any such thing!! So weird to me. And this week when I called the school district they informed me that since lice is more of a nuisance than a disease they don't tell parents about it. Kinda makes me mad- I wonder if anyone reported it before we got it!! I would have liked to have known that was a possibility a long time ago. And it has been a long time so I'm certain it's been shared. Which is a bummer. But now it's just going to keep getting shared back and forth until everyone learns about it. I kind of want to fight this policy. I'm pretty sure it's absences they're trying to avoid. So weird. So anyway. When Nate got home I filled him in, did his chemical treatment even though I'm still not 100% sure he had any- I am leaning towards not, but just to be safe, I still treated him. Then he did mine. It was a VERY full evening!! I think we got done around 11:00!! That means I was at the lice killing business for about seven hours total! So crazy.
As the week went on, we got quicker and the lice was almost non-existent in the last few treatments. It's amazing how much time we have spent combing out hair! It's really a big project! And oddly enough everyone's hair has looked all nice and shiny/healthy ever since. Kind of a funny result. On Monday night we had Bradley go get his microscope so we could look at the lice up close- pretty creepy. You could tell they were dead though! That was a bonus! I would have loved to have seen them live though. Too bad I didn't think of that. What a crazy experience. I'm so glad I made that call to the helpline though- could have been so much worse!! And lucky for me and Erika, the itching we've been feeling for the past few months is finally subsiding! How gross is that!!
FHE
Bradley taught a lesson about Baptism and the Holy Ghost. Did a great job! I love that everyone is helping Erika to focus on that and be prepared for her own baptism this year. We had yummy Peanut Butter Scotcheroos for the treat, courtesy of Charity and Noah. 1-30-17
LUNCH WITH DEBBIE AND DIANE
Got to go to lunch with Debbie and Diane again. This has been so cool to stay in touch with them. I love hearing their stories about their new ward and just really enjoy being with them. It's such a bummer we can't be visiting teaching partners and teachee still. They were so good to let me bring Jack and Molly. Good times. 1-31-17

INSANITY
We had to move Insanity to the church because of Andee's baby, and Wednesday was a little too chaotic for me. Molly would not just go play! She was right there under my feet the entire time. It was frustrating. I still got a little workout, but not quite what I was wanting. We stayed for playgroup after that and of course she was just fine then! Only needed me for a few minutes. Why can't my kids just let me work out? Such an ongoing thing for me. 2-1-17
NEW BEGINNINGS
We attended New Beginnings this week. They did a pajama theme. It was super simple and very sweet. I loved it. Kelly and Charity both had little parts in the program. It was fun to witness the bonding that has taken place among the Young Women already. They really are doing great. It's good to see that transition. I got to stand and talk with quite a few people which I really enjoyed. It's still hard to not be in Young Women's. Those things make it especially hard, but I think I'm going to survive :). 2-1-17
STILL NO OVEN
We are still going strong with no oven :). I know this is silly, but I'm really proud of how long we've gone :). It's been hard, but also not. It's funny how we just get used to conveniences. Cupcakes have been the biggest inconvenience, but even that hasn't been too bad! Kinda cool. We're holding out for President's Day sales :). Baby step to 2/20/17. 2-2-17
DATE NIGHT
Nate asked me out for Thursday night which really made me smile since it hasn't been a whole week since our last date. I love that he thinks of that stuff. We went and saw Passengers. Such a cool movie!!! I absolutely loved it!! Especially the swimming pool losing gravity scene! So cool!! And what a cool new idea! Just a really interesting movie. 2-2-17
SATURDAY IS A SPECIAL DAY
We got up early to go visit Grandpa Russ in the hospital. On his birthday of all days he was in the hospital! Not cool. But we wanted to let him know we were thinking about him, so we grabbed the leftover cupcakes and headed up to IMC. He looked REALLY GOOD! It was nice to sit and visit with him. I bet he was feeling a little better just with the birthday happies in the air. He joked around with everyone and even roasted Nate quite a bit. Which Nate decided was okay since it was making Grandpa laugh :). We didn't get to stay too long, but ran into Grandma on the way out. She seemed rushed, and overwhelmed, but gave us her love and gave Luke a little treble clef key chain because she loved his music the other night so much. Very sweet and so thoughtful! We headed home, but dropped Luke and Kelly off at IHOP for their lunch date (actually they insisted that I call it breakfast, I think that's what the gift certificate Kelly gave him said). We got home and Noah, Erika and I left again. We got down to IHOP just as Luke and Kelly were getting done! So fast! We went over to Great Clips, put our name on the list, ran over to the fabric store to get Kelly's fabric for school, then over to Seagull Book to buy Luke a bigger ring, and then back over to Great Clips for Noah's haircut! We were so productive! Didn't even have to move the car because I parked it right in the middle of everything! Got lots done, then hurried home for Luke, Brad and Nate to go to their team pictures. The rest of us (minus Noah and Jack) followed after to watch their game. This week's game was pretty awesome! Pretty stressful :) and really exciting! They ended up TYING at the end of the game... kinda crazy! But we decided that was better than losing. They played great! Luke made one of the two shots he took and Bradley made a bunch as well. It was in interesting game. Felt like some of our players were off :). But they did great! Lots of fun to watch! Charity and Kelly got WAY into it with their cheering and stuff. Erika and Molly spent a lot of the time out in the hall so Molly could roam around- that's her new thing. The rest of the day was somewhat laid back. Until I lost it in the evening. The lice situation picked back up again. Found a pretty large one in Noah's freshly cut hair- not sure if we just missed it before, because his hair was so long, or if it was a new one from playing over at the Clark's. We also missed combing the night before because of all the partying, so who knows... just SO GROSS!! We looked at it under the microscope and BLECK!!!! So nasty. Found some more live ones in Charity and Erika's hair as well. I think it's time to do the chemicals again. I was a grumpy mom tonight. I really just got so fed up with how our house looks lately, too. I feel like I'm sick of being the only one who cares about it too. Kinda driving me nuts! Hopefully they can forgive me in the morning. 2-4-17
MOLLY'S FIRST PRAYER
We were sitting at the table getting ready to eat (always takes forever for some reason), I was getting after a couple people for fighting over seats and then I looked up and there was cute, little Molly with her tiny arms folded and her head bowed in them :). It. was. the. cutest. thing. I've. seen. in. a. very. long. time!!! So cute! So Charity had asked her if she wanted to say the prayer and she actually agreed (her little hmm hmm hmm hmm- singing something that might be her version of uh huh :) ). So Charity helped her and she "said the prayer"!!! It was so sweet!! If only Jack hadn't been screaming in the background about not being able to say the prayer- would have been perfect :). Cute Jack has some competition in the prayer department. We might have to have 2 or three prayers at each meal again :). 2-4-17
