TESTIMONY
I did it again. I kept feeling that burning and that I needed to get up and bear my testimony but I didn't. I'm mad at myself about it. I've had this feeling a few times in the recent past. I'm not sure why I can't get myself to go up there. I worry about people getting sick of the Maynes family getting up there and I do like to leave room for other people. But I wish I'd followed the prompting. I've been doing so much better at that lately and this was a major fail! 4-9-17
CRACKED
It happened. My phone slipped out of my hand while I was getting it out of the church bag, to stop the ringing from my Tile, fell on the cement driveway, and shattered the screen! I couldn't help but be sad! I almost got mad, but Luke was right there and I really didn't want to teach him that electronics are that important to me. I tried to play it off a little. It was pretty sad though. I can't complain too much though, I've dropped that thing so many times and had it turn up fine that it was probably just time. It's fortunate that I am also do for an upgrade. Our awesome phone plan gives us great deals on a new phone every year. So that's pretty nice. Unfortunately though, Charity was going to adopt my phone when I received my upgrade, so now she either gets a cracked one or has to fix it. Kind of a bummer. Although, she handled it way better than I thought she would. I was prepared to give her the "We don't cry about electronics" speech I'd given myself earlier. She seemed almost unphased. So anyway. That's that. Now I just wrote a whole paragraph about my phone. Still needing more of the speech I guess. 4-9-17
HOLLY FUNDRAISING LUNCHEON
Jami and I signed up to attend this free luncheon to learn more about Holly Fundraising. We went for the food, but ended up getting a lot of information that we might want to pass on to our PTA for next year. I kind of want to see about getting some of the stuff for my kids to sell here, during the summer, or maybe over at the park... not sure if that's a realistic idea, but whatever. It was a fun time with Jami and good food- Ruby River. I wish I'd won something cool in the drawing- Jami won a party package for 20 at the karate place with cake and all! Pretty awesome! I won, well, actually I didn't ever get my name drawn out- I just had to raise my hand at the end as someone who hadn't had their name drawn yet- and got Beanboozled. yep. pretty lame. My kids were excited though :). It was a nice morning. I wish things had worked out to have my mom tend, but thankfully Nate took some LWOP and came home to watch Molly and Jack. Such a sweetheart. It was a nice break. 4-10-17
NEW SHOES AND SOFTBALL STUFF
Luke has been needing some new shoes for a while and Erika was needing some things for softball that I couldn't find at the DI, so we took them and Molly shopping. The reason I feel like making a whole post about this was because of the different dynamic that exists when we're with different groups of our kids :). Luke and Erika were both some of my hardest babies. We're talking VERY DIFFICULT. I can say this because they both, around age 2, kind of just switched. It was really weird actually how overnight it seemed. They are both now two of the greatest, most easy-going, FUN, helpful, loving, kids who get along with their siblings probably the best out of all of our kids. I really feel like we had to earn the personalities that they have now. I always tell Luke the torture he put me through was well worth what I got out of it all :). They really are just sweethearts. So anyway. Taking them both shopping and with Molly, it was such a pleasant time. They don't talk a lot in the car, but when they do, we get to hear about what's happening with friends and classmates at school. When we were walking into the store they were each holding one of Molly's hands, swinging her and giggling about how cute she is. They were both so helpful (without being asked) when it came time to distract her while the other one picked out new things. Erika walked off with her while Luke was trying on shoes and found her a soft jacket to rub her face on :). I loved how sweet they were with each other and how patient they were. Luke offering advice to Erika about the mitts and bats. Neither of them begged for treats at either store. They both just fed off of each other's calmness I think and that made it even more enjoyable and noticeable. I wish Nate and I had been in better moods to recognize it in the moment and commend them on their awesome behavior, but there were a few things weighing heavily on both our minds- different things- but we were both in a bit of a funk. It happens. Anyway, it really was just too pleasant not to mention. And not that this doesn't happen with other kids, it was just a combo we haven't had in a while. Just something I want to remember. 4-10-17
COGAT
That annoying test that I had to take Bradley to ended up being a BIG FRUSTRATION FOR ME!! Yes, I am screaming that last part. I found out his friend's mom had received an email with his score, and I hadn't so I emailed the lady in charge. She emailed back asking for my son's name, and then a couple days later (Monday) I got a call that there was not a test with Bradley's name on it and that there had been one without a name, so they were assuming that one was his. Which makes sense, but not when I found out that that test only received a 67!!! You need 90 to be in the accelerated math. I was shocked! And then after talking to Brad, I learned that he remembered putting his birthdate and teacher on his test form and that he might have forgotten to put his name, but definitely had all that other stuff on it. So basically, I'm left hanging. Wondering if that was actually his test or not. Another discrepancy was that the test with no name or info also had some blank problems on it. Bradley had not left ANY blank. And with how confident he had felt after the test and all the things he said about how easy it was- I just can't imagine him doing so poorly on it!! I'm just a little weirded out by the whole thing. I ended up calling the lady back and being the annoying mom that wants a redo, which she declined, but then I begged her to let us look at his 6th grade SAGE test results and see if that showed anything different. She agreed. So I guess I have to wait til June. She also said he could possibly take it again in August and use that score. All of these options just annoy me a little and I'm frustrated that they can't help me out more. But whatever. I don't know why I care so much. I mean, it's not like I want him in an accelerated class if he shouldn't be in it. I personally prefer the easier classes :), but he was concerned and Mrs. Downs was also pretty sure he'd be in that class, so I guess I just wanted to speak for him. I wish things could just work. Ya know. Like why does there have to be a problem here. Oh well. I guess I should just chalk it up to another lesson in patience for Christa. Hopefully I can stop thinking about this soon. 4-10-17
FHE
Kelly traded Bradley for the lesson- she's had this idea in mind for quite a while, something she learned from Bro. and Aubrey Noriega- so she convince Brad to let her teach it. She related our paper airplanes and trying to hit a target with life and repentance. Cutting up our paper airplanes so that we had to adjust and course correct depending on the things that happened to it. She did a great job of explaining this after quite a while of playing with them :). Everyone had a lot of fun goofing around. Poor Jack didn't love having his plane cut, and had a bit of a melt down, but Nate and the rest of us cheered him up. It was actually really cute to watch him getting everyone's attention for a few minutes. It was obvious it meant a lot to him that we all cared about him. Eventually we had him smiling and laughing :). He's such a sweetheart. Then we played a couple rounds of Simon Says, Luke's activity. Then the treat- Chewy Chips Ahoy cookies dipped in chocolate milk- Noah's choice. It was fun night. I wish we were able to get started on FHE sooner- I swear it's Satan trying to get us to skip it. It's tough right now with Kelly's Lacrosse practices on Monday nights, but she's done at 6:30 so we really shouldn't have any conflict- we gotta push harder and get Satan out of the picture. 4-10-17
MOLLY'S WORDS
So she doesn't talk a whole lot yet, which I blame on the fact that there are too many people around to read her mind, but I did want to document what she can say. She's been a lot more vocal this past month, so that's been a lot of fun. She can say:

FITNESS TESTING
I got to go do fitness testing for Bradley and Luke's classes this week. This is always so much fun- I don't know why I love it, but I do. Jack and Molly even do pretty good when we do it too. I LOVED watching them push themselves so hard for their Presidential scores. The night before, Luke had been timing himself doing crunches all evening. They practiced their cupstacking, running... it was cute to watch them. They did great too! I watched Bradley get his 68 crunches! And Luke got his 40! His face was so cute when he told me he'd made it to Presidential! LOVE IT! And Mrs. Johnson is so awesome, I'd happily help her anytime. 4-12-17
JAZZ GAME
Nate and I redeemed his birthday gift from my dad and went to the Jazz game! They were playing the Spurs. They totally killed them the whole game and then somehow the Spurs caught up and the last few minutes were CRAZY intense!! It was so crazy! But we won :). So all was well :). It was fun to be with Nate in his favorite place :). And a nice break from my crazy day. 4-12-17
2ND GRADE PROGRAM
Poor Noah had to perform in the 2nd grade program. It really was cute and we loved watching it on Thursday, but Noah was not excited and not proud of it. This split class has been almost unnoticeable this year. I feel like I forget that it's a split class on a regular basis. The show was great, but you could tell Noah wasn't all that thrilled about it :). 4-13-17
TEST DRIVING THE NVs
For the last year and a half we have debated whether it is better to get another bench for the suburban or to just buy a big ol' new car. We purposely got the Suburban with the ability to put in a third row because we knew we were going to have one more after Jack. So it was our plan to hang onto that thing forever and that it would suit us just fine. And also fit in our garage and not be a total eye sore. Well. The past year or so we've had nothing but trouble with the thing. Not to mention all the hang-ups with getting the third row. We were coming down to the wire with needing to order it- so it could be here in time for our New York Trip (We weren't going to make the littles squish for the New York drive! That would be awful. Oregon was bad enough!). So it was time to make a decision. Well, right as we were trying to make this big decision the dumb thing stopped working real well. It was time to go get it fixed again (which we've had to do several times- it was becoming pretty routine). This was a huge motivation to start looking for a new car and we had just seen what we feel is an okay van. So we did the unthinkable and while the Suburban was in the shop, drove down to SLC and test drove a Nissan NV. It's massive! Totally HUGE! But we were not completely turned off. It was definitely not horrible :). And actually once we took a look inside the back it was almost irresistible. We said a little prayer to have help making this decision and thought it over some more as we drove home. It seemed more and more like the right choice every time I thought about it. When we got home we found out that there was something new wrong with the Suburban. We found out we wouldn't have it back until Saturday! This was totally going to throw off our whole weekend! And also made buying a new car seem even more appealing. (this sounds crazy as I'm writing it- we didn't buy the car because we were going to be out of one for 2 days during one of our most busy weekends- it just fit so nicely :) ) So Nate started working things out with the dealer and he had all the paperwork all ready to go the next day! We drove down and signed our lives away on the new Nissan NV. It really was a better option all the way around at that point. We would almost be saving money because we won't be dumping $300-$400 a month into it on repairs. Not to mention the room!! When we got it home the kids were ecstatic!!! I couldn't believe their excitement! And not one of them was bummed about it being a van, they were just so thrilled to have room to sit! It was really exciting for all of us to think about the comfort level. There's so much foot room and head room and extra seats! It was fun to show them. And then it was super awesome that we were able to do the girls' friends' birthday parties, Kelly's lacrosse practice, Dinner at IHOP with Erika and Molly, fathers and sons campout, Kelly's lacrosse game, the family Easter Party, and some last minute Easter shopping. I have no idea how we would have made that all work out without the new car. It was a blessing. We were still feeling a little reserved because we hadn't turned in our Suburban we'd promised and signed over to them. Then after getting the phone call that it would be another 2 days and that it was a cracked manifold, we got even more nervous. It was a fairly nerve-racking evening. THEN to find out it actually needed a new engine!!! $6,000.00 is not an amount we have laying around. Nate and I were totally stressed. We struggled with the decision to tell the dealer about it. We had already signed it over, so it technically was their problem, but we couldn't do that. That seemed sort of Bramwell-ish. So we were able to work things out with the dealer, brought a little more money to the table (they seriously cut us a deal on that one- they must really mark up cars, more than I ever thought, if they were able to give us such a great deal). So all is well. It was a stressful beginning to our week and it was finally over Wednesday afternoon! Good times. And now we are the proud owners of a new Nissan NV 3500 :). 4-12-17--4-20-17
IHOP WITH MY LITTLE LADIES
Erika and I struggled thinking of something fun to do with just the three of us (Charity was at a friend's party and Kelly was at practice), but settled on something for dinner just to begin. She of course chose IHOP (why do my kids love that place so much?). It was a lot of fun until Molly started freaking out, but Erika and I made the most of it :). It's fun to see Erika as the big girl. We came home and played Phase 10 and watched a movie. Fun time with my girls. 4-14-17
MARSHMALLOW MARCH
I need to get the boys to write about their big campout/marshmallow fight. Sounded like a lot of fun! 4-14-17
SCONES
We went on our traditional scone run Saturday morning for breakfast. That was a lot of fun too despite Molly's erratic behavior. She really hasn't mastered the restaurant manners yet. When she dumped her cup of water out all over her plate, it was time to go. And it was okay because we were done. 4-15-17
KELLY'S LACROSSE GAMES
Kelly had her first two games on Saturday. Back to back games, playing Viewmont first (how rude is that! Pull her off the team she's played on for two seasons and then put her up against them for the first game her NEW team plays together! I think it's rude, but anyway). Kelly had accepted the challenge to play Goalie for the first half of the first game. She did pretty dang good too! After having never even worn the gear which is apparently pretty restricting. She let a few in, and the second half goalie couldn't stop them either so they lost that game 5-3, but pretty good considering! It was a fun game. The second game was even more fun though :). She played attack and defense and middie. We totally killed Mountain Crest. The score was 14-6 I think. Pretty awesome. Kelly did amazing! Almost took out their goalie even! I loved watching her games even though I was all alone because everyone was up at the Family Party. 4-15-17
EASTER CLOTHES SHOPPING
I needed the kids to have some decent Sunday clothes for Easter this year. They didn't ALL get stuff because they didn't ALL need it, but there was a need. We spent quite a while at the store looking for dresses for the girls. It was fun to see Luke helping them look for dresses :). Everyone else waited in the comfy car! 4-15-17
