We had a very interesting Thanksgiving Day! Kind of a different one than usual. It started bright and early with a drive up to Day Break for the family 5K. Then moved on to a long and quiet drive back home when we realized (as we had reached 9000 South) that Jack was not with us. Thank goodness for Erika and her inquiring mind. Fortunately, he had gone back to sleep after being asked to get up and get ready and had no idea we'd left him there! He was dead asleep when we got back. Poor Emily had stood out on our cold porch, standing watch- best. friend. ever. It was an emotional reunion for me, and I had to remind Jack that I love him so much. To which he said, "Are you okay?" HA! Gotta love that kid. And love the miracle that kept him asleep so that he wasn't traumatized for life. Like some of our other kids. So anyway, once we got all our ducks in a row, we drove BACK out to Grandma Ruthie's and ran around the lake (skipping part of the 5K), and then met up with everyone back at the house. I actually really loved this run! It was so much fun! And I RAN the entire thing. I had Erika there to keep me going. Poor Nate was stuck with our not-so-jogging stroller that was impossible to run with, as well as Charity who was on her rollerblades. He wasn't "stuck" with Charity, but it was hard for him with the stroller and helping her. But he toughed it out! What a trooper :) HA!
We got back to Grandma's and basically just vegged the whole day away :). I loved it! We played card games with Jen and Grandma, helped prep food (well, Nate did), read books, played with the magnets, played with the toys, and Bradley and Noah went back and forth from the lake to fish/catch crawfish. So lots of fun!! We were all very shocked to learn that Becky and Darren's family were the only other people who would be there for dinner. It was a nice, quiet little group for dinner. Only used 1 1/2 tables. Just Jen, Grandma Ruthie, the Becksteads and us! Quiet and simple. Different, but also good in a way.
When dinner was over the Taylors showed up and joined us for Gingerbread houses! That was a lot of fun. The kids LOVE this tradition! So do I. We had glued our houses with the hot glue earlier in the day (one of our many time killers). So we were all prepared for candy installation. The houses turned out great! 11-23-17
Meg is so sweet with Molly. They totally bonded that day.
