BISHOP'S SHARING TIME
The Bishop came in and did Sharing time for us on Sunday. He had the coolest pictures! Both of the same lady with Christ, but the one is her in a red dress with a red shawl, kneeling down, head bowed. It has a darker lighting to it and it is in a shed or wooden building of some kind. The second one the lady is sitting up next to Christ, wearing a white dress, smiling. Christ is holding the red shawl in this one, the lighting is brighter, they are sitting outside. It was such a cool analogy to The Atonement, repentance and forgiveness. The Junior primary may not have understood it all completely and grasped the symbolism, but they were still engaged and very focused on what he was saying- which I thought was especially cool. Then the senior primary were just amazing! They actually figured out the symbolism themselves! So amazing. He did an awesome job and really reached their spirits I think. It was cool. I am so glad they got to hear their Bishop's testimony of the Atonement. 3-11-18
MOM AND SIMON FOR DINNER
Since my mom and Simon were not going to be able to come to the Jazz game with us Tuesday, I invited them over for dinner and cupcakes to celebrate Charity with us, Sunday night. We had a very thrown together at the last minute dinner (since we get home at 4:00 and that's really all there is for Sunday dinner), random sides including Nate's awesome queso. Along with some fun-fetti cupcakes (slightly burnt) with some chocolate/vanilla frosting- we mixed the leftovers from two tubs of frosting together- feeling really lazy obviously. Or frugal, however you want to look at it. They were actually pretty good if I do say so myself. It was fun to have them over. 3-11-18
KELLY'S FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON
We all piled in the car and drove all the way to American Fork to watch our favorite Girls Lacrosse team play their first game of the JV season!! SO exciting! Kelly played almost the whole game. She was out for two minutes near the beginning because of a shooting space violation that earned her her first yellow card- oddly enough that's a bad thing- go figure. She kneeled by the stat table for two minutes. She played SO WELL the WHOLE GAME!! We could tell she was holding back a little after the yellow card incident and didn't try for any other goals, but several assists! According to her coaches this team is second in the league, so we were pleased with the game even though we didn't win. It was so much fun to watch and be there for her. I can't express how happy I am for this season! It's going to be lots of fun. Go DAVIS!!! 3-12-18
PARK WITH EMILY
Emily and I finally got to hang out again! It's been forever. Forever in the sense that we just don't get to hang out with each other anymore. We walked over to Ponds Park and let the kids play. It actually went pretty well! Whitney Salisbury showed up and sat by us for a while. Will found a HUGE tumbleweed on the way there and dragged it all the way home which made us all smile! Jack brought home a few cool sticks. It was a fun little outing. So grateful for my friend and the positive energy she shares with me. Glad we went to the park since it snowed again a couple days later. 3-13-18
JAZZ GAME
For Charity's birthday we decided we were going to take the whole family to a Jazz game- gotta do something big and special for the big 1-6!! You know all the craziness of the away game on her actual birthday, and how Nate told her we would go on Tuesday. But there was a little more craziness after that as well. Nate has wanted to take his mom (and dad for that matter) to a Jazz game for a very long time. This was the perfect opportunity. We knew it was going to be tricky since she can't do stairs very well, so Nate started looking into handicapped seats. They were pretty pricey so we knew we couldn't get everyone's down there, but we didn't like the idea of his mom sitting by herself, or even with just one other person. So Nate kept looking. In true Nate form, he was able to talk them into some skybox tickets! He totally hooked us up and it was actually cheaper than some of the other options. We ended up needing to fill eight more spots, so Nate got Jared, Paulette, and Sam, Lynn, Austin and Caden, and Lacie and Tony to come as well! We had invited all the grandparents and Jen, so Grandpa Hatch, Dawn and Jen were there too! It was SO MUCH FUN!! And so comfortable! We had the whole room to ourselves, which wasn't really all that necessary for all of us Jazz fans, but it was perfect for Jack and Molly to run around and eat Jared's leftover nachos. The seats were more comfortable than the usual ones, and had more room which was awesome. We all just sat and watched the Jazz KILL the Pelicans. I talked Lacie's ear off. Hopefully that wasn't too annoying- I know how much she loves the Jazz. But we were up by like 35 at one point. It was a lot of fun. Charity sat by Grandpa Hatch and got him cheering a little. It was a lot of fun. I loved watching Ruth sit there with a big smile on her face. She wants to do that again sometime :). 3-13-18
KELLY'S FREEZING GAME
Kelly had a little bit of a surprise game (not sure how we missed seeing it on the schedule before) on Wednesday. We were also surprised to learn that Garland is an HOUR drive. I wasn't as anxious to go to this one for some reason. Probably just the distance. And as we had been rained on all day, I assumed the game would be cancelled, so I was dragging my feet when it came time to leave. The whole way there, I felt like we were going to get a text or something saying that the game was cancelled and I'd have to turn around driving all that way for no reason. We got to Garland to the field they were going to play on and immediately it started to POUR. IT was raining like crazy!! The few people there from both teams were huddled under this tiny awning trying to stay dry. But it was also 35 degrees outside so they were dancing a little to stay warm. We still had another hour before they could officially cancel the game. A sidenote: the bathrooms there were so disgusting. I don't think the water was turned on, so you can imagine the state of the toilets. I wish I could say I didn't use them and found somewhere else to go, but when you're in the middle of nowhere in the rain and you've been driving for an hour on a flush day- you just go. Not proud, but I was relieved. So I sat in the car and watched everyone freeze. It got to be about 5:45 (the game was at 6:15) and Kelly came back to the car to tell me they were going to "start warming up". I mistakenly thought she meant she was going to sit in the car with me and get warm... but she just grabbed her stick and headed out into the rainstorm to "warm up". The dedication these girls showed there!!! I was shocked and SO IMPRESSED!! So they warmed up and then at about 6:20, they actually started their game! I honestly didn't think we would really have to play!! By this time, I had two girls in my car, one, Mara, who was feeling lightheaded and experiencing an anxiety attack because of the cold, and Emmy who was just getting in on that. And her fingers were cold. Not five minutes later, Hailey came out to my car, in complete distress and possibly shock- just shaking and sobbing. We helped her get her half gloves off, then one by one peeled off all her layers. She was SOAKING wet. Just like everyone who was out there playing, but that was a lot of water to bring into Nate's brand new car! Did I mention we were in his car? It was nice because the heater works when it's not driving, but not nice that it was full of wet lacrosse players. So anyway, we stripped her down to a bra- she was FREAKING OUT the entire time- I gave her my coat, and she just sat there and shivered the entire game. I thought she wa sgoing to pass out or something from hyperventilating. Her poor hands too- I tried warming them up for her. It was pretty crazy! With each wail that came out of her, I couldn't help but think about my Kelly who was still out there, playing in the snow/sleet/slushy hail/35 temps the ENTIRE game without complaint! It was sort of funny when Emmy's dad came and forced her to get out there and play- "I can't feel my hands, Dad!" "NOBODY CAN!" He was actually super patient with her- I was surprised and impressed. I also felt like an enabler letting the girls sit in my warm car. But we were playing down three men with the girls in my car. So that wasn't helping the tough ones out there on the field. It helped that the other team had just learned how to play a few days before and Kelly was giving them lessons on how to play the entire game. I won't forget the ref falling on her behind. I laughed but only because of my usual feelings for refs. Kelly said the refs were nice and looked 15. She also said that they liked the Davis girls because they knew how to play. Really the whole scene was pretty hilarious and really made me just so proud of my Kelly!! She has come such a long way! This is the same girl who turned around on little hikes because of sore toes, etc. She toughed out that WHOLE game and only shed a few tears when she got in the car after. It was so amazing!! I love what Lacrosse and being on this team has done for Kelly!! It's been priceless. So we won 8 to 2 for anyone who cares about the score after all that :). Good times. 3-14-18
COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO
I finished the book this week! I gotta say, and maybe it's just because I love the movie so much and they were SO completely different, that I wasn't all that impressed with the book. I like that it's got more depth, obviously, since it's a book, but I prefer the story line of the movie. I like the vengeance that could only exist when it's your BEST FRIEND who betrays you and gets you arrested and then steals your fiance. I like the movie Mercedes better. The ending of the book dragged on for me and just didn't do it for me. I did like that he did all the nice things for people in the book. The movie is missing that, but for good reason. I could have done without the dumb arranged marriage mess in the book- and there are too many characters for me to keep track of :). I had to keep googling them and getting spoiler definitions. Overall, the book was fine, just didn't do my favorite movie justice :). In honor of me finishing the book, I made Kelly watch an edited version of the movie with me Friday night :). I think she liked it. She bragged about how she called everything. 3-15-18
NATE COOKED DINNER
Nate made my day and cooked dinner on Thursday. While I was out shopping with Brad and Noah, he was slaving over lobster sandwiches. Thanks babe! 3-15-18
BABY GABBY
We got to tent Gabby for the first time this Friday. I was hoping it would turn me off from wanting a baby, but it didn't really work. I will say that it is really hard to not do stuff all day. I did enjoy relaxing with a cute little baby though. Poor Molly wasn't a fan. She didn't say anything about not liking her, but she definitely wasn't going to humor me with holding her or playing peek-a-boo with her. Funny girly. We're going to watch her again on Wednesday night. 3-16-18
CHARITY'S FIRST DATE
Nate asked Charity out on her first date this Friday. They went out for sushi and then the Rush Funplex. They had a lot of fun. I should have them write about it though. They were nice enough to bring me home a Starburst roll- so yummy!! 3-16-18
SNOWY SATURDAY
So we had this really full day planned with temple, food drive, fishing/babysitting, drivers ed driving, Chinese New Year at Mom and Simon's and out to dinner with Aunt Becky and Grandma Ruthie. Unfortunately, with the snow and Noah throwing up last night and this morning, we cut our plans down significantly. No temple, no fishing, no dinner out. Not to mention I kind of threw my back out a litlte and couldn't breathe without this sharp pain shooting through my back. Not sure how to get rid of it or how long it's going to last, but I hope it's not long. 3-17-18
ST. PATRICK'S DAY
I wish I'd done a little more preparation for this day. We did our usual Lucky Charms with green milk, then our cool little leprechaun left a treasure hunt to a pot of gold. He used trickier clues this year, so it took way longer, but I think everyone had fun with it. Nate spoiled us all with some Reuben sandwiches on marble rye bread. So delicious. Most of us were wearing green today, but I failed to get a picture. It's making me really sad just thinking about it. I kept trying to remember all day. Luke goes out of his way to wear as little green as possible, but still wearing it. Molly was not happy about her green shirt until about 10 minutes after I forced it on her. It was the only one she owns so she didn't get to choose her shirt. She didn't love that. Charity wore a sweater with a few flecks of green. Kelly wore camo. Jack didn't seem to care about the green thing. He's such a non-conformist. Kinda like how he wears his school shirt on Thursdays. Bradley, Noah (even though he was sick), and Erika wore their green with pride :). We didn't do a whole lot else to celebrate- but we squeezed in our weekly disneyland movie- Peter Pan- chosen because of the green aspect :). 3-17-18
CHINESE NEW YEAR
I got to talk with Lana, Nancy, and Kathy, Ernie, and Hollie on Saturday at Chinese New Year. That was very fun! We always say we're going to get together but we never do. So maybe we will this time. But it was fun to run into them at my mom's. Simon is always so generous and we had a great time this year. 3-17-18
