Last Friday was the Hoop Shoot (School level)! Charity and Kelly both competed this year! They practiced and practiced for the last month or so with Nate out in the backyard. They were both feeling really nervous and weren't sure how well they were going to do. We had lots of talks about just having fun and not taking it too seriously, but doing our best.... bla bla bla :).... And when the day finally came, they both surprised us!!
Kelly was up against 4 other girls, she missed her first 10, but then got 6 out of 15 on her next run. That was pretty amazing! Especially compared to how practice went. She was SO proud of herself and even teh crowd seemed really drawn to Kelly and clapped quietly for her with a little cheer with each shot that she made. She looked so cute and little out there (sorry Kelly, but it's true ;) ). She had such good sportsmanship, she was so sad for her friend Sariah who didn't make as many as everyone else. But she was VERY glad she beat Malaika :). She seemed unphased by the fact that they didn't announce the winners that day. They found out today that Kelly got 2nd place which is just SO COOL, but unfortunately she will not be going on to the next level. Kinda bums us out, but really, she did fantastic!
Charity was up against only 1 other girl (much to our surprise since there were several who signed up) in the 10-12 year old girl age group. Charity has to compete with girls much older since her birthday is in March and the cutoff is April 1. She did really well though too! She made three shots using her ol' faithful Granny shot method, and the other girl only made 1! So we knew she was going on to the next round. She was so amazed! She was very relieved and seemed so happy about it all! She can't believe she's going to go on to the next round again! I'm proud of her! She really has done a great job! And been kinda lucky to go with it :).
I'm so glad my kids feel inclined to participate in these activities! I see these moms who push their kids to do things and I just thank my lucky stars to have kids who WANT to do them and do well at them and enjoy them!! Makes me happy!
District Round Hoop Shoot..... HERE WE COME!!!

I really meant to comment on the Reasons to smile post but figured it would be easier to see on the top post... ANYWAY onto my comment (which you know will be more of a novel hehehe... I seriously don't think you realize what a spiritual giant you are!!! I am absolutely serious as a heart attack when i say you inspire me! Seriously! I love reading your blog.. it always inspires me to take a deeper look at my life and how I live it. I admire your commitments to God and you do NOT take them lightly and it shows. I've said it once and I'll say it again, your kids are so lucky to have you for their Mom! I look up to you so much. Thank you for your example and inspiration.
