MEMORIAL DAY-
In Sacrament meeting the High Council member and returned missionary spoke about the temple and our responsibility as parents to teach our children about the temple. We've talked a lot about the temple with our kids, and I think they know quite a bit, but I wanted to follow their counsel and take it a little further. Especially when I started thinking about the fact that Charity will be going in less than a year! A couple weeks ago, in Relief Society, the teacher talked about how her mom let her pick out a picture of her favorite temple and she had that hanging up in her room all through her childhood and what a blessing that was. I thought it was a great idea, so in combination with this other advice, I decided that for Mom School we were going to talk about the temple together Sunday night and then Monday, head on down to the Distribution Center and pick out our pictures. Unfortunately, it was closed for the holiday (duh) so we will have to go back another day to do that. But we did manage to make some other fun. We did Mom School in the morning to learn how to clean the bathroom. Had to hit the candy store for all of the cute littles who went to their primary classes on their own, wahoo, and all their sibs who deserved a treat for being such good school kids on their day off :). We went to the park for a little impromptu picnic. The kids had a blast and I wish I'd had my camera to capture Jack on the swing! He loved it of course! Then we went up to Nana's grave with a bag of M&M's. Sat down next to her headstone and ate most of it :) but left the rest for anyone who visited. I LOVE visiting Nana's grave. Makes me feel like I'm doing something right. It's one of the "for sure"'s in my life. Some decisions, you're not sure if it's the right thing or not, but with that, I am sure! Nana made her family such an important part of her life. She was always there at her siblings' and parents' graves on Memorial day. Rarely missed. So I KNOW it must mean a lot to her that we take the time and make the effort to go visit hers. I hope she knows how much I still think about her and love her. Everyday. I don't think there are too many days that go by without thinking about all of my grandparents. I love them and miss them so much. They are such a huge part of my life. A lot of the things I do everyday are a reflection of what they taught me. They left a big mark here. Anyway. After the cemetary we headed home. I kept asking the kids what they wanted to do or what would be fun to do, and they all kept just wanting to go home. I LOVE that home is a fun place to be again!!! Makes me smile. So we came home and didn't do much of anything :) I loved it! Nate came home, he made his jalepeno poppers and we headed off to Grandpa Hatch's house for a barbecue! It was a lot of fun to be back in his back yard, using the old picnic table (and luckily Dawn has some nice lawn chairs that made it really relaxing). My Dad had bought a new grill, so that was fun. We spent most of the time playing with the kittens. The kids had scratches all over their hands and necks by the time we were done, and poor Noah fell out of the tree, but other than that... good times. 5-28-13
JACK'S NINE MONTHS
Jack had his well-child check-up on Tuesday. It was a pleasant surprise on the calendar THAT MORNING, when I realized we had scheduled it for that day. He's had an owie on his hand from the vacuum for a few days now and so it was great that I was going to be able to have it looked at without having to pay for it. The doctor said that I had done everything right with the first aid taken. I was so proud of myself :). He said that Jack has lost weight, so we need to be feeding him more fattening things... that should be interesting. But overall, he wasn't concerned about anything so that was nice :)... Can't believe my baby is getting so old!! We are loving getting to know him even more. He does so many things now. He's crawling, getting into everything, even up the stairs!! He LOVES attention. In fact, he has to have it! He does not like being alone AT ALL. He enjoys eating, although not everything. And surprisingly, he doesn't LOVE sweet things. He would prefer seasoned ground beef (or chicken or whatever) over a piece of fruit. Funny boy. He talks a lot (just jibber-jabber). He likes to make really loud noises that grab everyone's attention and then give a great big cheesy smile :). We all laugh and then he does it again in a few minutes :). He's a bit of a dare devil and will attempt many things that he is not fully equipped or trained for. It's cute, but scary at the same time. He likes being on the go. If he is moving, he is happy. The store is a lot of fun for him and he rarely gets upset when we are there. Unless we are standing in a long line at the check-out, in which case he will need some serious entertainment, possibly a box or two to suck on and/or chew apart (depending on how observant I am that day). He loves his Mommy. I'm a pretty big deal to Jack. That makes me happy :). He does have SO much fun with his Daddy. And with his brothers and sisters. He's been loving his baths. He had gone his whole life without a bath in a big tub until we moved here. He loves splashing and sucking on the cup (gross), and trying to stand up before Mom can stop him. And at the risk of jinxing it, I'll mention that he has been SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT!!! Almost every night!!! WAHOO!!! Although, that may be because I'm not waking up to him. But either way, I'm sleeping and he's going to bed at a decent hour, no complaints, and hallelujiah!! We love our little Jack Jack. Hopefully he's liking life in our family.
FIFTH GRADE PROGRAM
On Thursday, Charity's fifth grade put on a big Patriotic performance. They sang songs and danced, it was a really big production! Charity dressed up as a waitress for the "40 Hour Work Week" song. I LOVE watching Charity in these things. She is such a fun little performer. She smiles and gets into things. She always knows ALL the words and rarely messes up. It was fun to be sitting almost right in front of her I just stared at her cute little face the whole time. There were some really fun songs. I loved that they sang "America" by Neil Diamond. "Angels Among Us" too. I LOVE that song. Grandpa Russ and Grandma Ruthie, Grandpa Hatch and Grandma Hatch, and Nate and I and the littles were all there to support her. The other kids got to watch it during school. Lots of fun. SO proud of my Charity. 5-30-13
PICNIC ON THE PLAYGROUND
Our new school (I'll only call it that for one more week :)) did a fun little family activity, where we all got to go have lunch with our school kids out on the field by the playground! It was Friday, so Nate was home which was SO nice to have his company and help. We had crammed a lot of other random chores into the morning (I weeded a whole flower bed! go me!), so we were really rushed getting our food. We had decided pizza would be a fun/easy route, and were just going to pick up a $5 Little Caesar's (our kids still think this is the best pizza :) ). But silly us, we don't even know where the nearest one is and we were running so late that we couldn't go down to our Centerville one. Luckily as we turned a corner, we noticed that Big Daddy's Pizza also had a $5 hot and ready kind of deal written on their storefront. So that's what we got. They only had 3 available, so we took all three :). [Minus the fact that they don't have crazy bread, I was very happy with the pizza, WAY better (in my opinion) than Little Caesar's. So we may have found a new pizza place :). We'r still learning Kaysville. It's funny how little we know about Kaysville when we've lived so close to it for so many years. It was kind of untouchable territory when I was in HS just because it was Davis High boundaries, so we've had a little bit of fun, and I'll admit, frustration learning the area. It's always fun to get to know a new place though. Like a little adventure. It's just unexpected since we didn't move far :) ] Sorry, huge side note! ANYWAY! We got to the school playground just in time, set up our blanket. I was slightly embarrassed that we were bringing pizza, pudding and cheese balls for lunch, but the kids loved it :) so it was all good. I don't know why I let those things embarrass me. I was SO happy when Becky called me on her cell phone to find out where we were sitting. She lives close enough that it was quicker to walk than to try to find a place to park. But she had been running late as well. So I was glad that she called. I was afraid I'd missed her. She and her kiddos sat by us. It was a lot of fun to talk with her. And I THINK our girls are starting to play together a little :). Hopefully they get even more time together this summer. They're all so shy. I loved watching the kids play Red Rover, that was a big no-no at our old school. So that was fun :). Then the PTA handed out free popsicles, and that made the whole thing worth it :). What a fun activity! I hope they do it again next year.
STAKE TEMPLE DAY
Nate and I have been able to go to the temple 2 times in the last 2 weeks! How amazing is that! It's been so good for me! We were able to go Friday, thanks to my Mom, and when we got there, they surprised us with the need for people to do sealings! I was so excited!! I LOVE doing sealings. That's probably my favorite thing to do. I get to sit wiht Nate the whole time and just bask in the spirit of the sealing power. I love it. Nate had a funny experience during this session. Made me laugh so hard. There were some interesting people in that beautiful room with us :). I just LOVE how at the temple, anything goes :). I hope we can keep up this momentum that we've started, and be able to go more often. It's sure been nice. 5-31-13
