This was an exciting day for Charity! She had been looking forward to it and inviting people to it for days. Grandma Hatch, Aunt Jen, Grandma Ruthie and Grandpa Russ all came out to support her. The main reason she was so excited was for the Dare Graduation. She had won the class round of the Dare Essay Contest and was going to get to read her essay at the Graduation. It was really a special program.
They showed the school slideshow, and then another slideshow with each 6th grader and their name. It was fun to cheer when we saw Charity's :). I'm pretty sure she had the loudest cheers :).
The Principal talked a lot and the Dare Officer as well. Then Charity presented her essay. I LOVED her essay! It was fantastic! I hadn't heard or read it at all before this so I was so pleased with it! I'll admit I almost cried even. She did amazing. I still think she should have won. There were 2 other girls that read their essays and they just didn't even compare! Even Aunt Jen who would never reveal any bias agreed. But alas, someone else won the lion :). I'm so proud of Charity though!
On with the program. They handed out lots of awards. Charity acted surprised every time they called her name :). She's so funny. She got the National Fitness Award, that was cool. Then to wow us all out of our seats, she received the highest award a sixth grader can achieve. It's call the Gold Presidential Award. Mr. Hughes made a big deal about this one. It combines their academics, behavior and testing scores from 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. She and I both thought she would for sure get the Silver one and when they didn't read her name for that we had both been disappointed. Then much to our surprise they did call her name for the GOLD! Wahoo! So cool. I really can't express how proud I am o f Charity. She works so hard. And she's generally very humble about it. Even just the look on her face when they called her up there. She is so cool. I hope she can keep this momentum going through Jr. High.
So that was that! She's officially NOT in Elementary school anymore!! ConGRADUATIONs from 6th grade, Charity!!!
