We have had the craziest month! Feels like a big whirlwind and I really can't believe it's been a whole month since I updated my journaling. Kinda bums me out really. I will have to get out my calendar and get all the way updated- until then, we have just my memory to work with.
Week of 12-7-14
DEBBIE'S LESSON
I really loved Debbie's lesson this month. Something she said really struck a chord and stuck with me. The lesson was on a lot of things, temples, forgiveness, trying harder, not being so hard on ourselves. One thing she told us to think about was "the last time we were offended, or hurt". She wanted us to consciously imagine forgiving that person and letting them "off the hook" so to speak. She wanted us to picture ourselves getting over that problem. The only thing I could think of was how I had beat myself up about not being who everyone wants me to be. I had really attacked myself. It was so great to use this in this exercise. I totally forgave myself. I decided that I don't need to let what others think of me matter. I can let go of the hurt I've caused myself and move on. It was the greatest relief. I decided then that I am going to move past this trial and stop making life harder on myself. When I say it like that, I really can't believe I let it happen. Kind of a bummer. But anyway- great lesson!
CHARITY'S TRYOUTS
Again with the nerves. I was so happy that Charity wanted to audition for the school talent show! She decided to sing "O Holy Night" for that too. It was great, I made her a CD of the music, she practiced her little heart out. The day came and I decided to ditch a few littles in the car, they were missing shoes, and go watch her audition. What a relief that they let me in! She did FAN TASTIC!! She totally nailed that audition. I couldn't believe how many chills and almost tears I got! I was pretty sure she had wowed them too considering they didn't stop her mid song like they had warned her might happen. I think they wanted to hear her hit that high note at the end and she SO did! It was so much fun to witness and I was so proud. We had to stay in the room (of MANY judges, did I mention?) to watch the following audition and that girl tried so hard. She just did the wrong song in my ever so humble opinion. She was getting over a cold too. It was really great though, not to be rude, but I felt so much more confidence in Charity's audition knowing how not well that one went. It was great. I think we both knew she was going to make it, and sure enough, the next day I got a cute little text from Charity telling me that she was in!! So exciting! Especially after the big let down of not making the basketball team! She is so ambitious. I love it. I love that she wants to do so much. She's a good girl. 12-9-14
ICE SKATING WITH THE BEEHIVES AND MIA MAIDS
For the 3rd or 4th class activity in a row now, our girls have failed to plan the service project that we keep planning. So we joined with the Beehives and went ice skating. Kind of a strange consequence for not following through, but had fun nonetheless. I was really grateful for Liz and Keri and that they included me in the convo. The girls had a blast, we had a blast, then we got hot chocolate at Johnny Rockets. Good times. 12-9-14
Week of 12-15-14
AUBREY AND ALLENA
We had two of our cute Mia Maids teach the third Sunday lesson again. I sure am loving the lessons the girls give. It's been so much fun to hear their thoughts on things and see the work that goes into them! I loved their lesson. 12-15-14
WORKING SUNDAYS
Nate changed to his new schedule that week. So his schedule was very mixed up. Sunday afternoon was the weirdest change though. I don't think it had even occurred to me that he was missing all of church until I was loading everyone in the car and he came over to hug me goodbye instead of getting in. I was taken back to a few years ago when I had to do church alone every Sunday, and got really nervous about it, but I was so relieved and so pleased with how well they actually did. They really are good kids. I need to remind myself of that every once in a while. I am so glad that we will be changing to earlier church for the new year though because I don't like the idea of this becoming a habit. 12-15-14
ICE SKATING
Nate's Union Party was a whole lotta fun this year! It was so family friendly, I couldn't believe it. We went, took all the kids, got to see Santa, eat, and then ice skate! This was a first time for all of our kids except Charity. They all had so much fun though. I wish my feet were not so deformed right now. I could barely get them into the skates (width wise), so they were totally pinched in there and that made skating extremely painful. I did go out quite a bit though, holding up Luke or Erika or Kelly. I can't believe I didn't fall though! My ice skating days were so long ago! Charity was really good, kept her balance most of the time, only fell a few times, but luckily didn't further injure her tail bone from the previous week. Kelly was slow to get the hang of it, but eventually got out on her own. Unfortunately, she did fall and landed right on her hand. After a long night of heat/ice and an instacare visit, we found out it was sprained. Total bummer for Kelz. Bradley was so brave and attempted a lot of skating on his own. He was pretty good too! Luke was not comfortable with this activity at all. But he put on some skates and tried SO HARD! He got pretty good at it by the end of the night though! We were all so surprised with how well Noah could skate! He was a pro! I loved his sliding into the splits move the most. He was an animal and I think I recall not getting many pictures of him because he was never close enough! What a cool kid though. We need to get him into Hockey. Erika, like Luke, was not a natural, but she was SO brave! She got out there as much as we would let her and then hung on for dear life! It was a lot of fun trying to teach her how to put the skates at the right center of gravity. She loved it. Jack didn't have a blast, but he did enjoy walking out on the ice with Mommy or Daddy. He was so cute about it all really, just grumpy when we had to sit and wait for the big kids. Lots of fun for NATCA though, glad we could be a part of it! 12-16-14
FIELD TRIP WITH LUKE TO THE REST HOME
I got to walk with the 3rd graders up to a nearby rest home to watch them perform their little program for the elderly. What a fun little show it was! I was sitting in a pretty awkward spot to be able to watch Luke, but I could see him and he was such a cutie, I really didn't take my eyes off him much! He has been talking about these songs and this performance for weeks. It was fun to finally see it. He was very proud and very happy about the whole thing. He had a special little singing part as well. Did a great job and made my heart skip a beat :). 12-18-14
KIM BALL
After my field trip with Luke, I rushed down to Bountiful for a little ice cream date with Kim. Nate met up with us shortly after we got there. We ate, talked, laughed, and laughed and laughed. Kim is hilarious. I just love that woman. She gave us a big bag of hand me down snow stuff-- such a blessing! I sure loved being able to just sit and talk though. I hope we really get together and double sometime. 12-18-14
SICK
Around about Thursday, Jack threw up. It was SO sad. He was so cute about it and so cuddly after. The upside :). He was only sick for a day or two, but long enough to pass it on to Erika. She got it on Saturday and was pretty sick most of Saturday and Sunday. It of course made it's way through the whole family. I for one am somewhat fascinated by how differently each kid reacts to different illnesses. And not just the different symptoms, but their behavior through it all. They are all so unique. Makes me geek out just thinking about it :). 12-18-14
