"You are not here to live a mediocre to average life; you are here to live an amazing life, a miraculous life. If it weren't for your challenges, there would be no miracles. You must do that which seems impossible, for it is only in the impossible that miracles are had." - author unknown, but very respected

Labor Day Fishing and Rock Throwing

We had planned on stopping to fish on our way home from the family campout.  We were so tired, and so on the verge of getting sick (we assumed) that we wanted to just hurry home.  We promised the kids that we would take them on Monday instead.  Monday came and though I wasn't real excited to stay home with sick kids, we decided we had to keep our promise to the older kids since they were all feeling alright.  So Nate set off with the older four.  They went up Big Cottonwood canyon and found a nice spot.  The kids had a lot of fun hanging out with their Dad, watching him fish and throwing rocks into the water.  Which is where the real excitement began.  Kelly bent down to wash off a cool rock and when she stood up her head met up with one of Lukey's flying rocks.  Right smack in the middle of the back of her head. Now I wasn't there, but I've heard this story enough times to know that at that moment there was a lot of commotion!  Charity said that when she saw the blood all over Kelly's hand and head and all over her clothes she started crying (yes, Charity was crying).  She actually went into a complete panic and started yelling to Nate.  He was just across the little stream.  Nate started walking back over to the kids, he knew there was a little rush, but he also knows Charity and so he wasn't too worried.  I'm so glad that Nate knows how to keep his cool.  He took the jug of water they had and dumped it over her head (Kelly's words) and cleaned out her cut.  It was pretty big.  Nate knows me so well, he called and let me know what was going on and that he was going to try and stop at the EMT station at the mouth of the canyon.  They ended up not being there after all, but it was such a relief to me to know that he was taking care of it.  It was a pretty big cut.  You could pull it open and it was really deep.  I called the doctor on call at our pediatrician's office (it was a holiday) and they recommended that we go to the Instacare.  Sure enough it did need a couple staples.  I was surprised that they would put staples in my sweet little girls head, but now that I think about it, it does make more sense to do staples.  I was impressed with how well Kelly did with it all.  She's gotten so brave over the last couple of years.  They did the lidocaine in the waiting room and then it was only a few more minutes in the laceration area to get the staples. Fun stuff.  We couldn't come out of the long weekend without a little excitement like vomitting and diarrhea and then some staples to top it off :)  Really it keeps me on my toes I think and really keeps us from getting TOO sick because we're just running around like crazy.  Nate still hasn't gotten sick which I consider a HUGE blessing.  He really can't afford to be sick at this point in his training.
Here's the rest of the pictures Nate took of the kids on their super-short fishing trip :)  And no, they didn't catch anything.... better luck next time.  And hopefully soon because Charity really wants to get the extra credit her teacher is offering to anyone who can bring in a fish :)
