Not a good way to wake up

I thought since Amy enjoyed my last vomit/PMS post so much, I would enlighten you all with a "Poopie Toilet Water Flood" post next :).  Ya ready?

So yesterday morning, I was still feeling kinda yucky, or whatever my excuse for sleeping in was... so I was still in bed, around 7:30 Bradley came down and quietly told me that the toilet overflowed.  This is something that happens pretty regularly in our house, and especially with the recent bug, so half asleep, I took it very lightly, suggested that he get a towel from the laundry room, and told him I would come look at it in a minute.  Well, a couple minutes later it occurred to me that if the tilet "overflowed" how did he stop it?  And then I noticed the sound of running water.  I woke up pretty fast and flew up the stairs.  A few steps into the kitchen I found myself in a huge puddle, seriously like an inch or two deep, of water.... and I hadn't even rounded the corner to the bathroom.... this was not going to be pretty.  I hurried to the bathroom to plunge and glanced at the boys half-flooded bedroom on my way.  I all of a sudden felt very overwhelmed.  I'm pretty sure that's the most "flood" I've been exposed to since I was a baby (and saw Brent's toy Kermit in the dryer).  I screamed out some orders to my kids to start bringing up towels.  I was thanking my "lucky stars" I hadn't cleaned those towels on the Sabbath like I had wanted, but talked myself out of doing- no matter how behind I get on laundry (and I am VERY behind), I try not to do it on the Sabbath and this time, it paid off!  My kids were very helpful, minus Erika and Noah trying to actually "help" and slipping and falling every two seconds.  I finally stuck Erika up on the kitchen counter next to two sharp knives and the zucchini bread, sounds safer right?  It got her out of the way.  And later I removed the extra hazzards.... not a moment too soon.  We filled up every single towel in the house, along with two large blankets.  There was So. Much. Water.  It was so disgusting to know that Brad had just had diarrhea too.... yeah, gross.  I tried calling the Landlord a few times, talked to Nate a little, and my Mom.  Nobody was really available to help, so I just kept cleaning.  I kept getting updates from the kids downstairs on the leaks coming down through the crack in the ceiling and then through the light fixture as well.  Pretty gross right!  We had buckets to collect that.  All in all, it took about an hour and a half to have the whole mess dried up, with towels outside, then scrubbing and SCRUBBING with bleach.  I'm pretty sure I used more parts bleach in my "diluted" bleach than I should have, but I'm a gern freak, so it was a must.  The ceiling downstairs finally stopped dripping, but the light fixture was so full of water it hadn't stopped yet.  So I pulled the thing down and dumped out the 5 or so cups of water that had collected in there.  So nasty.  Overall I think things went pretty well.  If only I'd had a shop vac.... And NOW it's time to wash those towels!!!!

That was not my favorite way to wake up. After our long talk, about not letting it get that bad even if that means waking up the person who will tell you to "turn the TV off and get your jobs done", I'm hopeful this won't happen again.
