We got to the campground around 6:30 pm, expecting to see the Clarks all set up and ready to camp, but instead found their text saying that Gary had just got home and they would be eating dinner first before heading up. I have to admit I wasn't surprised :). It was all good because we got to set up and get things going without an audience. That always makes me happy. It did surprise me however when they showed up at 8:00ish. I really didn't think they'd actually come that night. We were happy to see them and the kids got exploring right away. The highlight of this campout for most of the kids was the "rock slide". They climbed up the mountain a little ways and found some rocks to slide down the mountain on. Very cool. That first night, Nate, Gary, Lisa and I all stayed up talking into the wee hours. It got way too cold though so we did finally go to bed. That was a very cold night! I was so worried about Molly being cold, I let her sleep in my sleeping bag with me. Not our favorite way to sleep, but she slept all night! I had a hard time. Everyone else did okay. In the morning we made our eggs and stick biscuits. We made molds of things around camp on the play doh Lisa brought while the guys were fishing. Then we made boats out of cut up pool noodles and went up to the river to see them in action. Lisa and some of the kids checked out the cave- I'm still a little bummed I didn't ever make it down to the cave, Molly was napping when they went. We did a lot of sitting around too, which was nice. We did send Nate to the store for some more ice and for some benedryl for Bradley's weird leg rash. Thankfully we noticed that we'd forgotten the potatoes at that time too, so he grabbed some of those after Kelly and I drove down to cell service to text him. That would have been a bummer of a shepherds pie without the potatoes. I blame that on the rushed cooler/food box packing job I had because of waking up late. Our shepherds pie with the sausage was awesome. I don't think I'm going to want to do it any other way in the future. The second night we talked a lot too, but went to bed with high hopes that it would be warmer. And it was! I think. a little. Molly slept in my bag with me again and we both did fine until the air mattress completely deflated! I think the valve lid wasn't screwed on tight enough... I hope! otherwise our air mattress has a hole. Been there. Done that. I learned that my sleeping on the ground days are over. That was THE WORST night's sleep I've had in a very long time. I was in so much pain in the morning, I was nauseous. Luckily we had some potato chips. Might just be in my head, but ever since the first trimester with Molly, potato chips have been the cure all for nausea. I couldn't even sit up when I woke up, it was SO HORRIBLE!! And add Molly to the picture... just not pretty. I was in a lot of pain for most of the day, which kind of stunk, but I think we did alright. We got all packed up, cleaned up our campsite which happened to be one of the most messy campsites we've ever had with rubberbands, pool noodle pieces, sticks with rubberbands, candy wrappers, soda pop cans, you name it! You would never know that this was the camp that I lectured my kids on the way there about being neat and tidy. In their defense, I'm pretty sure most of it was Bea and Emma. Messy little mischievous girls! They really can be a little overwhelming. I'm glad Charity and Kelly were able to keep their cool with all of their shenanigans. I was relieved that Noah and Corbin were able to put their differences aside for this trip. They did so well. Which was a huge surprise. We headed on up to Pineview to play in the water for a while and had lots of fun there. The Clarks had their tubes out and the kids played on those. The big log was another fun toy. I finally sucked it up and just put my swim suit on and got in the water. I'm so glad I did. I had a lot of fun with the kids. I was really just ready to go home, but I'm really glad I talked myself into it. It was a really successful campout. I'm glad we all went through with it :). I'm also glad we decided to come home Friday (not that we had much choice). It was nice to not have Nate rushing off to work when we got home. 7-15-16
