STALE
I feel like my lessons with the Beehives have gotten stale. I wish I could be better at teaching. I hope Heavenly Father can forgive me for not being better at teaching. Especially about temple ordinances... I've gotta get a second wind or something. 7-31-16
LAST TIME WITH THE HATCHES
We met up with the Hatches, Kirshbaums and Mom and Simon at their place on Sunday to say goodbye to Sarah and the kids. I wish I could say I had a good time. It wasn't my favorite. I'm glad the kids got to say goodbye to the Hatches officially though. That's why I even went. I still can't get past the fact that it's okay to ask and accept meals from me, but not okay to look at or talk to me. Kind of frustrating. I think I'm done. I think I need to get my head back in the mom game and stop letting the outside family drama take over my emotions and thoughts. It's not worth it. 7-31-16
EMILY FIX
I've been so happy for the Maughans and their new baby, but there has been one drawback (if I'm thinking selfishly, which I do so naturally :)) less time with Emily! It's been kind of a bummer. But Monday I got to go over there and see her and visit even if it was just for a little bit. I had brought Molly with me so that my kids could just play (and because I've left her a lot lately and thought she'd be just fine), but it ended up being the wrong day for that. She got all bent out of shape and threw a couple little tantrums. Once she started screaming I knew it was time to leave. Bummed me out. But I am grateful for the little time we got :). She's so my best friend. 8-1-16
JACK TO THE DENTIST TAKE ONE
I had taken Erika to the dentist Monday morning and thought it would be a great idea to bring Jack so he could see the office and see that everything was going to be okay. Well, no nap and a few hours later, I ended up with a very unhappy Jack (understatement. more like a kicking, screaming, thrashing Jack) and a rescheduled dentist appointment. For when Nate could bring him. Embarrassing? Yes. But they were so nice about it and really, I got over it quickly this time. Compared to some of the other dentist drama we've experienced in the past 10 years, it was pretty minimal. So anyway.... 8-1-16
SHEPHERD'S PIE AND BLUEBERRY COBBLER
We'd missed our dutch oven meal on our campout with the Blackburns so we decided we needed a redo on that. We had cancelled for Lagoon Friday, so Monday seemed like a great night to retry. The Blackburns came over with their Blueberry (from Texas!) Cobbler and we made our "Shepherd's Pie"ish (I should probably stop calling it Shepherd's Pie, it's not really that. Anyway- it was a really nice time. We talked with Bliss and Matt the whole time and our kids pushed their girls on the rope swing and played the whole time- it was nice. Good food, good time. We need to get together with them more often. 8-1-16
JETSKIING IN BEAR LAKE
Grandpa had really been wanting another Bear Lake trip like last year (11 days after we had Molly- yes, we are nuts). So we found THE ONLY POSSIBLE DAY on the entire summer calendar that would allow all of us (Steve, Grandpa and us) to go Jetskiing! August 3rd! It was a bummer to miss the tie-dyeing activity for Young Womens, but when we made the plan for it it was just going to be a prepare for camp activity- so I didn't think it would be a big deal to miss it. But anyway. We had such a great time! Even with all the wind! I don't think I heard a single complaint from ANY of my kids the entire day! It was heavenly! Even Molly was generally very happy the whole time! She actually loved crawling around in the dirt. I was surprised since she doesn't love grass and the feel of it on her legs. But she was even braving it out to the water's edge, totally fearless! I couldn't believe it! Either she has no idea what could happen or she's going to be another little fishy for our family :). She loved the birds and all the goodies :). Jack had a lot of fun as well. We didn't get him out on the jet skis like he'd wanted because the cold water leading out to it made him too cold once we got on the jet ski, but he had enough fun to last him a couple days! So many big holes and sand castles! He was having a total blast! Erika too! At one point later in the day it occurred to me that I hadn't seen her in a while and strangely enough the thought occurred to me that maybe we had left her home on accident!!! How crazy would that be! She was busy busy busy on the beach! She was going going going! I was so glad. She and I got out on the jet skis just before we left and what a fun little outing that was :). She is so much fun to ride with!! I had to keep telling her to hold on instead of putting her hands in the air :). She was screaming and cheering the whole time, every huge bump she'd give a big cheer and laugh and tell me how fun it was :). Then every time we turned she would reach her hands down to touch the waves :). So cute. Kind of fearless as well. Noah had a lot of fun in the water. He was way out there with Charity for the first half of the day and Luke. They were hilarious on the jet ski, jumping off and then pushing each other off while trying to get back on over and over again. Kinda funny what entertains these little people. He loved the sand and dug some pretty big holes too. Luke too. They were so busy! Have I mentioned that they kept themselves busy?? Luke dug a hole big enough to fit his whole body, then let Nate bury him up to his head :). Funny kid. Bradley was a lot of fun with the littles on this trip. Played with everyone I think. Even took Erika hunting for sea shells up and down the beach. I loved riding with him on the jet ski- he was a lot of fun too. Very patient with my crappy driving skills. In my defense it was VERY bumpy with the wind and waves. Although, a lot of fun as a result. The bumps on Bear Lake are more bearable than the ones on Pineview. Kelly and I had a lot of fun out on the jet skis a couple times. She was fun to hunt for fish. We kept seeing big schools of them, right near the surface. Kinda cool. She is fun to talk with while we're out there too. Charity was another one who I rarely saw at all on this trip! She was out in the water the majority of the time. When she wasn't, she was with the adults laughing and talking about everything under the sun. We all got a good laugh about Grandpa's canopy that has a broken leg and opposite side is completely falling apart. It looked really funny to have it propped up on a table :). We tried to hog a big portion of the beach all to ourselves, but it didn't really work. It was fun to be with Grandpa and Steve and have that time with them. Nate spent a lot of time on the jet skis on this trip and had fun digging in the sand with the kids. He's so much fun! Even when he's tired- he had just gotten off his mid shift at 6:00 am. With only the little sleep he got in the car on the way there and then maybe an hour or so in a camp chair while we were there. He's such a good dad to sacrifice sleep like that. All in the name of fun and making memories. We stopped at Fox's Den Pizza on the way home- pretty good- we ate WAY too much food. It was a lot of fun. I'm so glad we get to have those times together as a family and with Steve and Grandpa. Good times. 8-3-16
BIKE RIDE TO KAYSVILLE THEATER
We needed an outing and the weather wasn't too hot this week, so we hopped on our bikes and rode to Kaysville Theater for the free morning movie. It was Hotel Transylvania which isn't anyone's favorite, but ended up being pretty fun for everyone. Kelly loved listening to Jack laugh at everything :). Molly even did okay the whole time, I only walked around with her a little. It was a fun little activity. I'm loving that my kids are all at an age that they can enjoy the same things together. I mean, I'm sure Charity and Kelly would prefer a day of shopping at Station Park or something, or Molly would enjoy a cuddly rock in the rocking chair free of distractions, but the fact that we can all go and have a good time doing something together is something I really appreciate. I cherish these moments. 8-4-16
JACK DENTIST TAKE TWO
Nate took Jack to the dentist on Thursday and just as I predicted, all was well. He did GREAT! I was so glad! Unfortunately, he's got a mouth full of cavities that we now have to go to a different dentist to take care of- and I'm sure that's going to be a real treat- but hey, I'll take it. He loved that the dentist found a car in his mouth :). I love his reaction to people's questions about how it got there, or what he ate, or "no wonder he had to go to the dentist!"... he gives the most puzzled looks, actually considering their comments. Funny kid. I'm so grateful we have a dentist we love though! I seriously couldn't be happier... Emily, I owe you!! 8-4-16
ELDER'S QUORUM PARTY
Nate and his presidency put together a little social for the Elder's Quorum and their families. We all met at the Garden chapel for food and playing while the parents socialize. We didn't get as great of a turnout as they'd expected which was very unfortunate for how much food Nate had made (pulled pork and chicken wings), but it was a fun time. I think everyone had a good time. I loved that Emily came. Poor Noah got stung by a bee ON HIS NOSE!! while we were there. That was a bummer. But really, a good time. Even the water fight at the end was a lot of fun. 8-4-16
BIKE RIDE TO DENNY'S
Nate parents invited us up to their house for a little bike ride and breakfast. We got off to a late start that morning and then had some crazy mishaps with the bikes after taking up there on the trailer- Nate's tire had been rubbing on the tire of the trailer and worn a gigantic hole in his bike tire, and Erika's was completely flat (even after pumping it up which has been working lately), and since the tool for the green slime had somehow busted off in her bike tire tube, we were unable to slime it up, so that was a total bummer! Nate and Erika ended up running the whole way there. It was a nice little bike ride along the trails of Daybreak. Up to the lake and then down to Denny's. I was pleased with how well it went on the way there. Even with Nate and Erika running/walking- they were really fast and we got there pretty quickly. Breakfast was a adventure :). They kept messing up on everyone's orders. Makes me laugh a little, but really, it wasn't too bad. Good food anyway. The kids had a blast! They were laughing and talking the WHOLE time. Marshall and Evan had come with us as well and they were extremely entertaining :). On the way back we let Luke trade with Erika, she rode his bike and he ran. This ended up being a poor decision on my part. I noticed that Erika had a hard time braking with handle brakes she's not used to, but since most of the way home was uphill and really wouldn't need much braking, I decided to just let her. Unfortunately, she and Charity took a wrong turn and ended up on a downward slope. She of course couldn't stop and crashed. She skinned her knees pretty badly and several other places on her legs. Such a bummer!! I so wish I'd listen to those promptings! My poor kids!! She was tough though and really stuck it out! Nate walked her on Luke's bike for a lot of the way, but she really rocked it for the most part. I was proud of her. Everyone else had a really good time. The hill coming back was tough, but we made it :). Noah and Bradley LOVED the skate park and stayed and played (aka: riding the ramps and "doing flips" off the end) for a while. We went back to Grandma and Grandpa's house and had popsicles, took care of Erika's owies, played checkers, candyland, and talked. It was really nice time with them. We all agreed it's a lot of fun to spend one on one time with Grandma and Grandpa. We need to do more of that. We tried to think of something amazing to keep the day going on the way home, but I think we were too tired :). We had a nice relaxing evening though. Nate and I had a stay home date with Batman vs. Superman (or whatever it's called) I don't love the whole concept of the movie and sad that Superman died- even though I don't really believe it. 8-4-16
LACROSSE CLINIC
We heard about this free clinic with the Davis girls and Kelly and Erika were all over it :). They went Saturday for two hours and seemed to have a great time. Minus the fact that Erika RE-skinned her knees. This time the wounds are almost a millimeter deep, pretty big too. I don't know what to do about them, they look awful and painful! She's so tough!! Erika told me that she now wants to sign up for Lacrosse instead of Basketball this fall :). So cute. Jill Berret was there, she's one of the coaches, and she had a lot of good things to say about Kelly and Erika and their mad skills :). It was fun to see her and hear from her. She's doing so well! I'm so proud of her! Fun morning for them. Then we went down to Bountiful to take back Grandpa's jet skis, get some Mo' Bettas and grab the camp manuals at the distribution center. Busy afternoon. 8-5-16
