Noah's Birthday

Noah's birthday started just like they do at our house- streamers and sign.  I made his sign this year.  Apparently it didn't make the cut when it came to picture time... we'll have to see if there's one on my phone or something.

We scrounged up the ingredients for Crepes (his choice) for breakfast.  Then sent everyone off to school!  It was hard not to give in and let Noah stay home for his birthday.  I don't think he really would have, but he did ask.  This was his first birthday AT SCHOOL though- I thought he should experience that!  Plus I had tons of weird errands to run that day- I didn't want him to feel like it was lame.  He ended up having a really fun birthday at school.  I think he liked it.

We had pizza for dinner.

Well, I'm really glad we had such a good time at Noah's birthday party because the pictures were a huge let down!!  Not to mention how excited I was to get some gopro footage of the ice skating, but found it completely dead when I got it out!!!  UGH.  So anyway- bear with us.  These pictures are sub par.

So Noah chose ice skating in response to my plea to have the parties somewhere fun this year.  We had it at the Bountiful Rec Center. It ended up being a super chaotic place/night for a party there, but I think it worked.  Nate and the kids skated for a couple hours.  I sat in the bleachers with the grandparents and Molly.  It was fun to watch everyone.  I loved watching Noah get in his groove.  I'm wondering if the hockey skates he used last time were easier?  Not sure, it just took him a while to get comfortable.  But once he was... he is really good!!  And he loves it.

So when everyone was out for a break, I decided it was time for donuts, hot chocolate and presents and made everyone stay off the ice.  It was super crowded and not an intimate setting at all, but we managed  :).  I learned that even though I know nobody will get after me, I should still refrain from lighting the candles in a public building.  Those eight little candles seemed to put off so much smoke!  I was worried.  

We had some help lighting the candles and then some help tossing a candle so that it landed right on Jack's hand... rats.  He was burnt, Noah finished blowing out the candles (which were actually supposed to be trick candles- thank goodness they're crappy ones).  Did I mention things were a little chaotic?

Present time...

He was SO EXCITED to get his new scriptures!  With four older siblings, you kinda know what's coming :).  He looked so pleased!  I loved his face when he opened it.  And he loved the case!  So sweet.  I love that he was so excited about this.  Long ago I used to think kids might not like getting "just scriptures" for their birthday, since they're kids, but I couldn't be more wrong and this was again the case with Noah.  He asked me a couple months ago, "Do I get my scriptures for my birthday or when I get baptized?" I think this was when he realized he was going to be waiting almost a month after turning 8 to get baptized.  I asked him when he wanted to, thinking I'd just do whatever he wants, wondering if he'd choose baptism so that he could get a toy for his birthday, but of course I was wrong!  He quickly replied, "I want them for my birthday!!  Then I get them sooner!"  Awwwww!!!

Such a sweet boy.  Strong testimony.  I really don't know if I've seen a more ready 8 year old.  It's really been fun to watch him get to this point in his relationship with his Heavenly Father.  He has such a strong one.  He is so quick to turn to Him and makes sure to pray and read his scriptures every night.  Even says a prayer with Jack most nights!  Such a good example.  

More legos from Grandpa Hatch... he's really hooked on these lately.

He wanted a rubiks cute so badly!  Thanks Grandpa Hatch!

He got money from Grandma and Simon.  He was pretty thrilled about that and always tells me how cool it is that he has so much money :).  

We finished off the night with a little more ice skating.  It was a fun party but I was pretty relieved when it was over :).  I am glad Noah had a good time though.
