We had a Sunday I will never forget this week. Everything about it was wrong. Starting with me not being able to go to Sacrament Meeting which is always a huge let down. Luke had been sick and so I stayed home with him. I did get to catch the end of the day because Nate was able to switch with me. But from that point on it only went down hill. It was so weird too because on the way home I had asked the kids what they thought we could do to keep the Sabbath day holy, just to trigger some good ideas in their heads. Everyone had great ideas! I was so pleased! Course when we got home, it was another story! I had to run off to my New Beginnings meeting and when I got back, all heck had broken loose! It was nuts! The whole evening was like one big fighting match! Nobody was getting along, everyone was being crazy rowdy, everyone was mad or sad or whining! It was awful!! I couldn't believe they were the same kids I'd had the conversation with in the car just hours before. Well, I think this was all part of the big plan because it triggered something in me. I decided they were all basically grounded from friends until they could get along for 24 hours (an old favorite of mine... "starting over!"). We had a very long discussion about what things we could do differently with our Sundays and with our home. I loved some of the ideas they had. They reminisced about the old days when they would make pulley systems with mailboxes and letters and such. And making tents and having fun together. I wouldn't say I think these are the most holy things you can do, but I do miss the old days when Sundays were not so unholy. So we made some plans. The kids requested that we have what they called, "Alone Time" right after church. Everyone just goes off and does their own thing for an hour-ish. They wanted to do something quiet together as a family and not be running around. Basically they wanted some structure was what I was feeling from them. Pretty cool. So we made a few other new rules about how we treat each other and how we can do better. It was cool. I was really proud of them and how we were able to grow from this experience. I hope it all works out well. 1-24-16
SNACK AND TV FAST
Jack has needed a break from snacks (mainly chips) and tv. It went well! I would say we had a nice cleanse :)
FAMILY WEEK
So this week was declared "Family Week" by me, after the whole crazy Sunday incident. I decided we were going to have some family building experiences. If I'd had my way (and it wasn't such the end of the world to miss school) I'd have checked them out and taken them on a family retreat like we used to do :). Day 1 we had to make a list of some of the things we have in common with each member of the family. Most people did this. I was so pleased with the mood in the house that first day! Everyone was trying so hard and they were all so sweet to each other. I loved watching everyone sitting around the table getting to know each other. Especially when they would take turns interviewing Jack! He was in heaven with so much attention and talking about himself :). It was heavenly. Day 2 we had to give each person a hug :). Day 3 we had to write something that we think is special about each person on a sheet of paper. I always love doing this. Day 4 we had to do two acts of service for people in the family. I didn't see much of this, but I did receive THE SWEETEST- TYPED letter from my sweet little Noah! I hung it on the fridge, it is my new motivation :). Day 5 we had to play with or do something with someone we normally don't do things with. Another one that wasn't as well done, but still- I think some of them got into it. The last day was a test, the ULTIMATE test, cleaning out the car together! They all did great! I was so relieved! I wish I hadn't said anything that night though, because as soon as I congratulated them for passing family week with flying colors, they all started fighting again and we had quite the time Saturday evening bringing things back down. They didn't get a movie to fold clothes because of it. So, did it work... I don't know. We're going to have to keep trying I guess. But I did love family week. It felt really good to be spending so much time together. OH and no tv or screens! That was probably the best part ;). I enjoyed it for the most part. And just for the record, Luke loved my assignments and asked that we have those every once in a while :). Cute boy. I love this family of mine. I am so blessed. Even when things do go perfectly, I really am so blessed.
FHE
We had our baptism lesson for FHE this week! Nate gave it. This is a family favorite. They especially love "practicing getting baptized" :). I love traditions like these. Noah is getting so anxious and excited for his baptism! We're all so excited for him really. It's such a fun time. Charity wowed us with her homemade churros for the treat! She really is such an amazing cook! Keeps wowing me. 1-25-16
BRADLEY'S SECOND PLACE!
Bradley did so well in the school spelling bee!! We were all so happy for him! He sure worked hard for that win! We were all on the edge of our seats towards the end! Luke especially :). That kid sure finds pleasure in Bradley's accomplishments. It's a lot of fun to watch him squirm and cover his eyes or ears when Bradley was up... he's such a supportive little brother. Makes me happy. Bradley was so awesome though!! We were so proud! He got some pretty good words- surprised us a few times knowing ones we didn't think he knew. He almost got out on Schizophrenia, but then the other girl missed her word too, so they kept going. He ended up getting out on gurney after a lot of rounds. It was so much fun to watch him. He really did deserve that. He had studied long and hard. Now it's on to the District! 1-26-16
GLASSES
Poor Charity had an incident (we won't mention the exact details) but it ended with her glasses being broken! So sad! It was actually time for another appointment though, so it ended up being a good thing, but we had to check her out to take her to get her eyes checked and pick out some new glasses! She chose some really cute ones, I'm way excited for her to get them! 1-27-16
DOWN
Wednesday was not so good. I think it started with Playgroup. Doesn't take much to set me off these days for some reason. There were some things said about my Beehives that ticked me off a little and then I just lost it inside from then on. I tried so hard to get myself under control, but I never really did the whole day. Kind of a bummer. I was exhausted by the end of the day. I need to work on controlling my mood and my attitude and not take things so seriously or personally. Momma bear needs to take a break. I did ask Nate for a blessing and things felt better. Long day though. 1-27-16
SWEET POTATOES NO GO
Molly had solid food for the first time! She did so well! I mean, for a first timer of course. She was so interested in it all and gave it her best shot. Swallowed as much as she could. Unfortunately the sweet potatoes didn't last long, she was coughing and gagging it all back up about five minutes after I'd cleaned everything up! So they were a no go so far. We will be trying something else soon :). But so fun! We got pictures! 1-28-16
ANOTHER BIG MILESTONE FOR MOLLY
We moved Molly's bed out of our room and into Erika's! Erika had been begging me profusely for the past 2 months (since I told her that babies move out of my room at three months). She has been so excited to have her as a roommate. I don't know why but it's been hard for me to move her out! But we did it! And so far so good! The new baby monitor works great too- another cheap wonder :). 1-28-16
HONORABLE MENTION
So yet another one of Bradley's accomplishments to get Luke all riled up :). Bradley scored an "honorable mention" on his science fair project! I'll admit it was a lot of fun to see the little gold ribbon hanging from his display at the fair. He did it all by himself! I clicked print a few times (because the printer was being lame) and he did everything else!! I really can't take any credit and it was virtually painless (As far as science fair projects go). I was really proud of him!! We went out to ice cream to celebrate :) 1-28-16
ORGANIZE YOURSELVES
I spent the day Friday organizing the kitchen! Nate kept me company! It was a much needed project!! Went through every cupboard and drawer, even the pantry, straightening and getting rid of things we don't use. It was spectacular! Feels like a whole new place now! 1-29-16
We all crammed ourselves into the "big" party room at Litza's to celebrate Grandpa Russ's birthday! They totally had it a week early so as not to interfere with Noah's baptism :). It was a nice time. Everyone loved it! Happy Birthday Grandpa Russ! I think he's 71 this year? 1-29-16
BASKETBALL
The boys are really taking off with the basketball this year! I'm loving it! I wish they had better teammates (boy do I sound like a biased mom :) ). But seriously, Luke and Bradley both have just been so much fun to watch!! Bradley has so much confidence this year and takes all the right shots! He is able to just steal and dribble all the way down the court then go up for a layup. Luke is really good at stealing as well and since he's kind of one of the smaller kids out there, just looks like a little speed demon going in and out of everyone, racing around the court with the ball! It's SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH!! Did I mention that? THey both have made quite a few shots. This week Bradley scored the tying point :). In his words, he just "tossed it up there" and it went in!! We were all just as shocked as he was :). So much fun though. I wish they could win because I know it would give them the little kick of momentum they need. They really have a pretty good team. Just a few boys look brand new to the sport. And they still managed to tie! Anyway- lots of fun! I really love watching my boys! Including Nate- the coach (thanks to me :) )- he is doing a great job this year! I love it! 1-30-16
REGRETS
I have been feeling so tired lately (the eye twitch is getting to me) and just really backed up on sleep so I decided to take a nap on Saturday. It was much needed and it felt really good, but I totally regret it! I missed out on some fun in the snow!! Nate and the kids built a snowman and a big snow cave... lots of fun! And I missed it all! Kind of a bummer. Plus I didn't get to say goodbye to Nate and his weekend didn't quite feel like a weekend to me, so it was a big bummer. Then that night I took the kids to get some free Krispy Kreme donuts and all heck broke loose when we got home. Kind of a bummer. It's so hard to want to do fun/nice things when I am worried that things are going to backfire. I would have been in the same boat if I'd just said, "Go to bed." rather than taking them to get donuts. Bums me out. Oh well, nobody's perfect. 1-30-16
