"You are not here to live a mediocre to average life; you are here to live an amazing life, a miraculous life. If it weren't for your challenges, there would be no miracles. You must do that which seems impossible, for it is only in the impossible that miracles are had." - author unknown, but very respected

My Life by Charity Maynes

For extra credit Charity had to enter something in reflections.  This is the poem she wrote.  I thought it was cute and wanted to have it in our book.

First came a look at my small beating heart.
But wait, just wait, that’s only the start.
I was born on March 9, 2002
“We’ll name our girl Charity.” They turned and said “That’s you!”

I took my first steps just before one year old
And got wrapped in my blanket when I was cold.
That blanket is now tucked safely and tight
To remind me of that one cold winter’s night

I turned eight years old what a special day
Full of family and friends two months before May
My perfect white dress, slim and sleek
I was just eight years old, oh how so meek

Then came double digits; I just turned ten!
Oh how naïve and small I was then
My gift, what I’ve wanted for over 5 years
Brought joy to my heart, I almost shed tears

“A puppy!” I said, “It can’t possibly be true!”
My mom said “It’s true sweetie. It’s just for you”
My dog’s name is Buddy, a black Labrador
Cuter than the cutest toy found in the store

His big, black paws too big for his age
He never outgrew his cute puppy phase
Now I’ve turned twelve, growing mature
Junior high approaches, I am unsure

“Exciting!” I yell, “I can’t wait to go!”
Little did I know how much I’d grow!
Teachers were strict and some were quite mean
Others made me feel just like a queen

Now I am fourteen, approaching that age
Of driving and dating; what a fun stage!
My life is changing and so am I
I’m growing up and I can’t change why

My life is so full of happiness and fun
But mistakes are made; always more than none
Friends have been lost and some have been found
They bring excitement even when we’re sittin’ around

Peer pressure and drama will bring you down
But don’t waste your time on a little ol’ frown!
Cheer up, I say, and do something nice
No matter if you have to do it twice!

Ninth grade oh wow! I’m finally here.
High school comes next; oh what a year!
I am growing so fast; mature and so strong
I and my life are moving right along
When life brings you lemons, make lemonade
Just remember, there’s always someone right at your aid

As you grow old and wiser too
You can always learn something new
Life can be hard and life can be tough
Each day and each week will seem kinda rough

But cherish the good and the happy in your day
Don’t forget to lead and guide the way
Happiness is found in each precious moment
And can be found in every bad component

Make your life grand, even with the strife
Now that you’re finished, this is my life
