FIRST WEEK
This was our first official week as a Primary Presidency. So far, not so good. I hate to sound negative, but it wasn't my favorite. I know things will get better, but for now... We had quite a few subs and teachers mad at us to begin with. Nobody seemed to know where to go even though we made reminder calls and they had been subbing for those classes for the past month-ish. Which is annoying in and of itself. I wish we could just have teachers! Real teachers! Is that too much to ask? Oh well. I know everyone is doing what they can. We were supposed to take a few minutes to tell the kids about ourselves. Barbara told a cool story about her childhood and showed her family picture and there were about 10 minutes left of sharing time, so I figured we were on schedule. Then Natalie got up and took the entire 10 minutes. We've talked about how we want the music to be the main focus, so we are not going to dip into singing time with overdosing Sharing time, so I told Barbara I could wait. I hate it when I think I'm going to do something and then don't, but it was really okay. I hate the thought of using up ANOTHER Sunday for "getting to know" us too though. So anyway. I wish we could have a redo on this Sunday. But I guess that's what next week is for. Better luck next time. 9-25-16
CUB COMMITTEE MEETING
Went to my first cub committee meeting. That was interesting. I'm really not sure how I feel about things. I wish I wasn't new and had more of a say on things. I felt really excluded through most of it, but there's still time. This whole split and changing wards and callings and such is really hard! I'm not sure how to make it go more smoothly for myself. I'm hoping to talk to someone about some of the Shadowbrook-ers concerns. We'll see how it goes. 9-25-16
ANOTHER MEETING
We had a 2 1/2 hour long meeting Monday to discuss new teachers again. So much time put into this to have NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT!! Getting frustrating. Hopefully something happens soon though. I do love Barbara so much! She is so amazing. Natalie too- it's just a really great presidency. Terrie is a great addition as well. I feel very blessed to be able to serve with such a good group. 9-26-16
FHE
I am the scribe this week. Noah taught us about Testimony this week. Did a little discussion and then had Charity bear her testimony for everyone. Very thoughtful lesson. Jack chose donuts for his treat and for our activity we played Charades- Erika has been planning that for days :). It's a lot of fun to play with these guys now that they are old enough to think of their own things. Luke's was the funniest. He put his hands in a point on the top of his head- looking like he could have been charading several different things- and Noah shouted out, "HOUSE!" And Luke, completely shocked and almost disappointed, was like, "Yeah. How did you know?" We all got a good laugh that he got that lucky. 9-26-16
STAKE YOUTH FIRESIDE
President Taylor did a youth fireside on Tuesday. It was really good. I'm glad I still have reasons to go hear the words that are given to the youth. It's crazy to think of all the distractions they have to fight off at such a time in their lives. I think there is an equal amount of good out there though, so hopefully they are reaching for that. I loved all that he said about church and meeting attendance. Even sports. Helps to know it will make a difference in their lives. 9-27-16
POLICE ESCORT
Luke and Nate went on the bike ride field trip to Barnes park on Wednesday and had a very interesting change of plans. Burton Lane overpass was being repaved, so it was closed and they were forced to take 200 North. Because it is so busy, the school called for a police escort! Kind of funny, and a little exciting for the kids as well. Luke was pretty thrilled about it. They were able to take Burton on the way back, which was good, but what a story! 9-28-16
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES KJH
I am starting to feel like we are just wasting the teachers' time when we go to these, but I'm torn between wanting to show that we care about our kids and how they are doing in school, and not wanting to bother with it because I know they are doing great! I've talked to a few teachers that feel it is good to go no matter what, so I keep going. We didn't hit all of the teachers this time, but the important ones we did. It's nice to know that they are doing so well this year. Both of them. And that their teachers are satisfied with their performance. They are both pushing themselves and really making school a priority. I am so proud of them!! 9-28-16
A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
Molly took a tiny step today, all by herself! This goes down in the books even if I am sad about her growing up :). She's still super cautious and seems to enjoy being held and carried everywhere, so I don't think it's going to catch on quite yet, but I'm enjoying her babyhood while it lasts because I know it goes quickly! 9-28-16
HEALTHY KIDS RUNNING SERIES
The kids had their second round (last week was cancelled) of races this week. They did even better than the first week- which was to be expected since they had been fun-running all day. Jack came in 4th again :). Erika came in first (we're still waiting on the email with the times- for some reason she didn't send it). Noah was first by a very long shot again. Luke came in at the exact same time as another kid and then they grabbed the other kids' tab while Luke walked away. So I think they got his tab a few behind when they should have... kind of annoying and I know I'm being a dork about it, but this stuff irks me. Not that I would say something to anyone, just frustrated in my head about it :). He was fine and felt really good about how he did, so that was good and all that matters. So he might have gotten 2nd or 3rd place. Still awesome! Bradley came in second I think- not sure, because they have two age groups running it together- it's hard to tell who they are actually competing against. Lots of fun though! Kelly was there too, which was fun. She was running alongside them and cheering them on- so cute! I love sibling love and support. 9-29-16
DATE NIGHT!
A date night finally presented itself! We had to cut it a little short because of Lacrosse and YW Volleyball, but we ended up just going to see Magnificent 7. Nate LOVES Westerns and they are not usually my favorite (I do love Maverick- RIP Nana- and Back to the Future III if those count as westerns). But after seeing the trailer for it and knowing Chris Pratt was going to be in it- he's seriously so funny!! Reminds me of Stevie-poo- I decided it was acceptable :). There is a LOT of killing and the sound effects from hatchets meeting bodies was NOT my favorite, but overall- I liked the movie! Kind of fun. I kept a superhero mindset and could see past all the dust and spurs. Kind of cool. I was proud of Bradley and that everyone was still alive when we got home. He's been left in charge quite a bit lately with our busy schedules, but he's really proven himself capable. It's going to be up to Luke here in a bit once Bradley starts going to all the mutual things with the girls. 10-1-16
GRANDMA RUTHIE'S BIRTHDAY
We all met up at Leatherby's to celebrate Grandma Ruthie's birthday. That was a lot of fun. Molly got to hang out with Ali for a lot of the time and that was really cute. Ali is so good with kids. Molly doesn't go to just anybody. She did feed her and let her play in her cup of water, so clearly she knows how to win a 1 year old over :). Grandma was really happy about it all and seemed to feel really loved :). Nate and I grabbed some Teriyaki Grill on the way out of course :). 9-30-16
GENERAL CONFERENCE
We were so prepared for conference this time! I was so happy about that! During the week the kids were able to earn stars/points (we called it something different every time), for doing extra jobs or being on task. And then Nate went nuts and bought lots of goodies and such for them to "buy" with their points to eat during conference! I was worried this wasn't going to be fun enough, but boy was I wrong!! AND it was SO productive! Everyone woke up early Saturday morning with the urgency to do some extra jobs so that they could have more points! I jokingly put some really "impossible" jobs (i.e. game room and toy room) in the list of things they could do and put them worth 500 and 1,000 points! And by some crazy miracle- THEY DID THEM!! I was shocked! Luke did the game room and then Bradley started on the toy room. I should have known my cute little overachievers would jump on the opportunity to make so many points on one job. Bradley ended up having some help from Luke and Kelly, so we did divide up the 1,000, but holy moly! I was shocked! Did I mention I was shocked?! The house was spotless by the time conference was starting! Everyone bought their goodies, they all ate quietly and took notes, and watched conference! It was SO fantastic! I really don't think we could have asked for better attendance. For all four sessions! I couldn't believe how little entertainint we had to do. There were no toys out, there were no games or gimics, just sat and listened!! Even Jack just sat here during most of the sessions! Molly, my dear, sweet, perfect, little baby actually slept through almost all the sessions! The one she was awake for she just mosied around mooching snacks off everyone :). So adorable! I loved the things that I learned and felt during this conference. It was so nice to have little nudges of "you're doing okay on that!" and "we've got that down!" every once in a while from the Spirit. And I appreciate the subtle, "you could definitely work on that" and "you need to be better at that". There was SO MUCH goodness! I hope I can use it to improve. I loved the Spirit that we felt. I am glad that Heavenly Father took away the negative that I was feeling after a chat with a friend the day before, she always manages to make me feel worthless and like I am doing things wrong. Heavenly Father didn't let that last and that made me happy! 10-1-16
PRIESTHOOD SESSION
Nate took Saturday off, so for the first time in a few years, he was able to go to the Priesthood session with his Dad and brothers again! The kids and I played with Aunts and cousins at the lake and at Grandma Ruthie's house. It was a fun, relaxing evening. Went by really fast which I guess was partly because the meeting was shorter than usual. Bradley missed this Priesthood session by 7 days! I was so surprised that Nate didn't want to let him go, but when I thought about how burned out he could get over the years, I realized this was probably the right decision. He enjoyed fishing with his brothers anyway :). It was a good last time being a little boy :). He was pretty bummed that Enoch went to the meeting considering Enoch's birthday isn't even until the 28th :). But he made the most of the time I think. Yummy hot fudge and ice cream! 10-16
