Jack woke up early the morning of his birthday and was super cute about feeling different :). He wanted oatmeal for breakfast which was funny. Nobody ate it except him and Molly of course :). He wanted to put up his streamers that we had failed to get up the night before, but didn't seem bummed at all that we'd forgotten- just wanted it done. Very businesslike. He loved the sign that Kelly had made for him. He loved that it was his day!! So cute!! No talk of presents AT ALL. Cute kid. He refused to go with Nate to the store to pick out his pinata because he wanted to watch me make his cake. We ended up playing dinosaurs together for most of the morning- that was so much fun!! We need to do that more often. We did have to stop a little for the cake, but it was a super easy, very fun to make cake! Jack helped me.

We had his friend party that afternoon as well. Which ended up being really funny. I don't know why it went the way it did, but I also think it was kind of good that it did. First of all, he only invited five friends. I kept trying to suggest more people, but he wasn't interested. Easy, but weird. So Will was the only one that actually came on time :). So he and Will played around for a while together, and then Liam came. So the three of them got to draw on their dinosaur tails together and really got into it, but were just quiet little guys :). We started Pin the Tail on the Dinosaur hoping that more friends would come. I knew they were going to be late, but I didn't know how late they were going to be :). So that was the suspenseful part :). Then Paul came and was able to play that game with them. That was fun. Things started to liven up a little, but really, not a lot. We went out to play our Triceratops ring toss and I kid you not- they were bored out of their minds. This was the lamest party ever for a little while there. I finally stopped trying to do games and let them just play. Course it was so hot outside, they really didn't want to. They just seemed bored really. It was such a drag!! Finally Luke and Ross came and the party got a little more lively. And then Luke, Noah and Erika came home and things got even louder. We decided to do presents and cake and ice cream and everyone seemed happy and like they were having a good time, but then we were done with that. We still had a half hour left to kill!! I was seriously stumped. I kept letting them "just play" but then they'd all come in and say they were bored and Liam and Will almost left to go to Will's house they were so bored. It was so sad. I really don't know what I did wrong this time!! Usually we have so much fun! Might be their ages, who knows. Jack was starting to get stressed though, towards the end. We played a couple more games, but we were totally just killing time, it was so sad. I kept worrying about Jack, though, and then I'd look at him and realize he had no idea how strange this party was! So I let it go, but really- it was strange! Everyone's parents started coming and we gave them their dinosaurs and let them go! Jack had nothing but positive things to say about the whole event, so I know he loved it. Hopefully the other kids did too!! Here's to another two years before we have to do that again :). HAHA!! 8-25-17
On Saturday, after the Stowell Reunion craziness, we had Jack's family party! He insisted that we have it at home instead of a park, so there was a mad dash to get the house picked up- it seriously looked like a tornado had hit it with all the camping stuff, reunion prep, and basically just the last month of life because I've been somewhat consumed with PTA. But I was SO IMPRESSED with our family! We got the whole place cleaned up in record time with zero arguing or frustration! Everyone just helped! Erika even woke up in the middle of it from a nap and just jumped right in, asking what she could do next. It was miraculous. One of the little miracles I've needed in my life right now. But anyway- Jen, Grandma Ruthie, Grandma Hatch and Simon and Grandpa Hatch and Dawn were here to celebrate with Jack Jack. We made Shark cupcakes (Jack's request). It was a pretty relaxed evening. I'm glad he didn't mind that we kept things laid back.
Luke was gonna die if I didn't take him to It's Sugar to get Jack a present (this has become kind of a tradition for these two), so I did. Made us a half hour late for the party, but at least Jack had his gummi hamburger, giant gummi bear and a lollipop. Jack ate up all the gummi stuff almost instantly. The lollipop has met almost every surface in our house- you can imagine how appetizing it looks now. But at least he's not sucking on it 24/7 I guess. Could be worse.
Molly knows who to get to do her dirty work- look at her trying to talk Grandpa Hatch into opening the gummi bear for her :). Totally laying on the charm in the process. Funny girl. Good thing I stopped him!!
I missed most of the hugs, but glad I got this one. Too bad it was the wrong angle for my bounced flash.
One of the best things I heard during this party was "My very own fishing pole!!" He was so excited! Even went fishing with Bradley the next day :).
He had to show off his push ups :).
Steve hugging "his favorite neice/nephew goodbye"
Molly's pushups that are actually probably a really great calf workout! And shoulders and core for that matter :). She looks ADORABLE DOING THIS!!! I need a video.
One of my favorite things.
I was the cupcake holder and the camera man :)
Molly's splits were a highlight of the evening as well. She was having so much fun letting Bradley shoot the bullets under her legs! So cute.

It's so fun to talk to Jack about being 5. He tells me at least once a day that he can't believe he's five! And "it feels so good to be five!" I love it! He is growing up and while that kills me, it also brings me so much joy. He's going to do big things. And "when am I gonna be six?" is his new topic of conversation.
