We had a lovely Halloween this year! It felt so not as rushed and hectic as usual! I was so glad! We had our little school parade in the morning. I got to go and see the kids walk through the cafeteria (this is how I described it to Jack when he asked why he had to wear his costume to school- unhappy about it of course-- of course my description didn't really help). Then I ran home, got my supplies and printed off a picture of Erika for her Star Student thing (thank goodness that's all Mrs. Turnbow needed from me! I'd forgotten to send it with Erika anyway, surprise surprise) and ran back to the school to help with Jack's class party. Molly and I ran the Eyeball Toss game (yes, this is the only Halloween game I know :). Just kidding- actually I debated
between this one and the pumpkin guts one... so I know two :) ). And can I just say that Molly was a ROCK STAR!!! She was my ball girl and seriously picked up the balls every time they threw one!! She didn't stop! It was so cute! I had to keep laughing about her because she was just so ON IT! Almost in the way sometimes, but totally ON IT!! Even when it went under a cabinet or into the bins... she was SO CUTE the whole time!! And she loved it! She took an awesome nap when we got home. A well-deserved nap. Jack seemed to love his first school party. I was so glad we got to be there. We napped and then hurried off to do Luke's class party game before school got out. We did the same game of course, and had Jack with us this time, but Molly was not as enthusiastic about it this time. Jack did great!! He was an awesome helper in Luke's class! I was so glad to have him actually because he was able to reach the ball when it went under her cabinet. Luke's class was a little harder. The kids didn't get as into it as I thought they would. Not a lot of winners. But then Luke's group came and Luke threw his first two eyeballs into the pumpkin!!!! Winning two candy bars right up front! Pretty sweet! And like he said, I hate when the person in charge's kids win stuff- seems rigged. This was not rigged, but very funny at the same time. The rest of the evening went pretty smoothly. Not like Halloween usually goes, so that was nice! Nate and Brad did make a mad dash to the Halloween store for his costume at the last minute, but other than that! We had our mummy dogs for dinner. Clint came over to trick-or-treat with us. Everyone was dressed and ready to go way ahead of time. Nate did awesome face paint on the kids that needed it. Grandma came and we took our pictures. Nate took off to take the girls to their friends' houses. Then trick-or-treating commenced with the Maughans and a hand full of strays :). Molly, Jack and I struggled to keep up with the group- they were FLYING! Erika would hang back and stick with us a little here and there, but Molly missed a LOT of houses in the process :). Nate finally caught up with us which was nice. I wasn't alone dragging Molly from house to house :). I LOVED seeing all the old Shadowbrook ward! Keri gave me the cutest little trick-or-treater figurine- so cute! And we talked with the McGraths and Morrells. I loved Bishop McGrath's nice compliments. Made my night really. And it was fun to see everyone we haven't seen in a while because they were all very complimentary about how I look :). Embarrassing a little, but also very fun. It's been a lot of hard work so I'll take it :). We met up with the big kids finally and they'd lost a little steam so they were easier to keep up with. Plus, Molly and Jack had enough candy in their buckets to keep them happy- they didn't need anymore, so they just sat in the wagon. The Nybo's joined us. When we finally got done, Luke really wanted to go to Mrs. Downs's house so I drove everyone over there. She was really sweet to them- gave her students- past and present- a full size candy bar. Then we came home and the kids all traded for an hour or so. Someone turned on Nightmare Before Christmas, so that was fun too :). I just love Halloween!! It's such a fun day! Noah thought of this costume on his own. He always comes up with something all him. I hope I was able to do it justice for him. It was tougher than I'd imagined it being, which is usually how it goes, but all was well :). One thing I want to remember was that he had a really hard time getting it off, the shirt was too small and getting it over his head was a challenge. So I was going to go help him get it off when the parade was over, but of course, he decided he wanted to keep it on all day. The funny part was when we took his class picture his teacher said, "Front row, bend down" and poor Noah couldn't bend down!! HA! And surprisingly, he did get the shirt off later in the day, came home with it off and I was shocked!
Molly was a cute little bunny. I found the ears and tail at Walmart and couldn't resist, so I bought the white shirt too :). She LOVED it!! And it was simple enough she was okay wearing it. I have learned something over the years and that's that a two year old (and those close to it) do not enjoy elaborate costumes and usually won't wear them. So we avoided the last minute switch to something we wore last year problem we've had with several of the other kids! And she looked adorable. I wish I got a picture of her hopping! She was loving that.
I hope I never forget Kelly's excitement about the rooster costume! She was in heaven picking this thing out. She looked adorable and let me take a bunch of fun pictures of her including the chicken crossing the road one :). I love that this girl humors me.
Poor Bradley did not get to dress up as what he wanted to this year. He had his heart set on one of the blow up ones. Maybe next year I guess. This is what he and Nate found last minute. It was fine and did the trick, but I felt bad he didn't get to be what he wanted.
Luke borrowed the shirt and idea from Kelly's costume a few years ago, but had to create his own pants to fit him, and really got into the whole thing :). I know he only picked this so that he could have candy, which is funny since he was only wearing it to go trick-or-treating and GET CANDY, but I how could I say no. He loved it.
He loves having his picture taken, he made me take several :). Here's two. HA!
Charity thought of this on her own as well. Took me back to my childhood. I can't count how many Halloweens I dressed up as a baby. Pretty fun/easy costume if you ask me. She did a great job. I would have killed for some footsie jammies back then...
Clint and Luke are probably my favorite friends. They are HILARIOUS! These two. I had to post both of these pics because of Luke's bunny fingers. They're just so funny. Smartie pants! HA!
Jack had wanted to be a shark, but the costume we had was a dolphin and we couldn't convince everyone to go with the shark idea. He got sick of telling people it wasn't a dolphin. So we turned to the lion costume. This was a tough sell, but once we told Jack how strong and fierce lions are- that they are the KINGS of the jungle!- he was there. Nate did the amazing face painting! Now that I look at the pictures, he's right, he did accidentally do a tiger face, but still cool nonetheless. Nobody noticed :).
Erika struggled with the decision of what to be this year. She's not big on making decisions. But I love that she and Noah stuck with doing the same thing (they had been planning on being a two headed monster, then slinky the dog, and when those didn't pan out we got this) together. Hers wasn't as tight as Noah's so that was good. Nate did her face paint. She looked awesome :).
We tried to dress up a little this year, Nate bought us masks. Looks like I needed to put on black clothes though- and the side pose... not so much. I liked trying though :). Better luck next year.
I'm so glad I got this shot of Molly's tail! It was the highlight of the costume! SO CUTE!!
