We finally got to celebrate Russ's birthday. This party was a super big deal to Ruth and she spent a lot of time planning it months ago, but then got sick and so postponed it. This Saturday was the perfect day to have it with the Idaho Mayneses still in town from Ashlyn's wedding. It ended up being a really fun and creative activity. We played Grandpa Charades (acting out things that Grandpa did/liked), we ate delicious food which, by the way, was not potluck! and I didn't have to bring the rolls. Ruth decided to go the easier route, which I loved :). We played Family Feud. That was a lot of fun, with lots of questions about Grandpa Russ. Then we got to make bear treats, have our picture taken with the giant stuffed bears, worked out with Nate, and played in the big ball things. Grandma went all out- it was a lot of fun! Then at the end, this is the crowning moment, and probably the entire purpose of the activity-- Grandma had Nate lead the kids on a "Bear Hunt" where they received a brown gift bag with their name on it. They were directed back to the room with all the bears and instructed (once everyone was there) to open their bags. It was pretty cool and very exciting to witness their faces as they pulled their Grandpa Bears out of the bags! The feeling that swept through the room was incredible! So much love! I loved it! The kids loved it! Ruth loved it! It was neat! These were the bears Ruth had my friend Alana make for all the grandkids and kids. I think there were 75ish bears in all. Alana is so amazing!! She made them using Russ's old clothes. Pretty cool if you ask me. My kids loved theirs! This was a fun night, good times with everyone and fun way to remember/think about Grandpa Russ. 4-7-18
