SPRING BREAK DAY 1-
So, not a lot to say here- we really didn't do much. Correction: I didn't really do much- it was like we had a revolving door with the kids in and out. They played with their friends a lot. This is why I don't plan big fun activities or outings. It's a little boring for me, and I'm left wanting, but I know they had fun. We did make dinner for a family in our ward. That was interesting. Charity and I started our 15 day fitness challenge. This should be interesting. I hope it helps us to feel stronger and healthier. 4-2-18
FHE
For Family Night Luke was the lesson. He talked about Christ's Atonement and shared his testimony. That was nice. He always does a good job. We had Drumsticks for the treat (Except Charity and I- dumb 15 day Fitness Challenge), and watched A Bug's Life for the activity. We thought of watching that in our preparation for Disneyland, but then we found out that they are tearing down the Bug's Life part of California Adventure- kind of a bummer! Fun night though. I think we had a lot of tired kids around. 4-2-18
SPRING BREAK DAY 2-
So, another day of bumming around. I finally just got out my laptop and worked on my blog book (2015). Coincidentally, I was 97% done with it when I got a coupon in the mail offering me 41% off! Perfect timing! so I crammed all night and finished it so that I could purchase it before 11:59 on April 5th! Crazy stuff. I will admit that I felt a little neglectful once I realized I'd had my face in front of my screen all afternoon. So I put it away for the evening fun. Which we really just ended up watching the Jazz Game. This year has been a really fun one for the Jazz! We're in 4th place right now! Couldn't be more exciting really- especially with Charity in the room :). The kids have been loving it. After the Jazz game, and mostly because Maya was here to be babysat- we started turning on a movie- but when she left, the kids just turned on Phineas and Ferb before going to bed at a fairly decent time- that was nice. So anyway. Spring Break has been a little blah so far if you ask me. Good thing we've got "big" plans for the rest of the week. 4-3-18
SPRING BREAK DAY 3-
Today we went to the Hogle Zoo with the Maughans! This was a highlight for everyone I think and in Kelly's words was, "only exciting because of the Maughans" :). We do love that family. We ended up purchasing a Zoo pass since it's only $20ish more than going once. I am actually a little excited about that. Jack, Molly and I could use something to do during the day. And for the summer- might be nice to have somewhere to run off to when we're feeling bored. Molly seemed to like it! She seemed less impressed by the bigger animals than I thought she would, but when we were in the Reptile house, she totally came alive! Mimicking all the animals- I LOVED her impression of the bird tucking his head into his shoulder. She did that perfectly and then after the millionth time of us having her repeat it, came up with a pretty sweet little look on her face as well :). Funny girl. She was acting out all of them and making us all laugh. We loved watching her chase the kitty back and forth against the glass. Jack liked the Reptile house as well, but I think his favorite thing was the map! He kept us up to date on what we had seen and what we had not seen. I loved how he was sitting with his legs crossed, sandwich on his lap, and map in his stretched out hands, studying it so seriously. Cracked me up! Another thing that cracked me up was the lady that sat down next to us in the Elephant Encounter, next to all of us eating our lunch, and proceeded to tell her daughter that they were not going to eat lunch right there because they didn't want to eat with the smell of elephant!! Hilarious!! Emily taking another bite of her sandwich at just the perfect moment... comedy relief! It was fun to be back at the zoo. Felt like it had been a while. The older kids seemed okay with humoring us as well. That was nice. Fun stuff. We were exhausted afterwards though, came home and crashed!! I almost fell asleep on the way home, but with Charity still trying to get her 40 hours, I thought I'd better stay awake. Good times. We had a little mini game night with the Maughan kids after a trip to Fiiz and then played Curses as a family before watching Truman Show for a movie night. 4-4-18
SPRING BREAK DAY 4-
CHARITY'S DRIVER'S LICENSE, PULLED OVER, FIRST DAY OF SEAGULL BOOK, JORDAN RIVER TEMPLE OPEN HOUSE, LEATHERBY'S
Today was a pretty good day. Charity and I got up, did our workout, ate our beloved Raspberry Cheesecake Protein shake and then got ready to go get...... CHARITY'S DRIVER'S LICENSE!!! Well, I'm getting ahead of myself, we actually went to the DI first to get her some work clothes and to donate the five huge bags of clothes, but THEN we went to the Driver's License Division and CHARITY GOT HER DRIVER'S LICENSE!!!! This is so big :). It was so unreal for me :). (also unreal that they didn't even ask to see my ID before letting me sign as her mom on her application- what is up with that?) So anyway- I should have her tell about this. So when we got home, Charity, Kelly and Erika wanted to go on a little first time joy ride to Fiiz and then up to her new work to practice driving there, since she was going to be driving herself to her first shift at Seagull book later. The crazyiest thing happened! She said a policeman pulled up behind her and followed her for a while before PULLING HER OVER!!! I guess Nate's car had shown up as uninsured so she had to show proof of insurance, and she did, but the cop didn't even ask her for her driver's license!!! Kinda weird, but how crazy is that!! Fun story for later :). So after that excitement, we got everyone dressed up to go to the cemetery to visit Grandpa Russ's grave and then go to the Jordan River Temple Open house! This was so awesome!! I LOVED IT!! Things were a little hectic right before, Molly was super cranky in the car and we got a little confused about where to park, etc, so I prayed for the chaotic feeling to go away. It was nice that it finally did, just as we walked into the temple. And how cool it was to see that temple all redone inside!! It was SO BEAUTIFUL!! And SOOOOOO different from how it used to be. That was my temple growing up. I hardly recognized the baptistry. I got to hold hands with Jack and MOlly through most of the tour. I loved hearing their cute little comments. Molly's adorable "I tooted!" as we walked into the Celestial room (right after I leaned down to tell her and Jack how special that room is! HA! I hope Heavenly Father has a sense of humor). Sweet little Jack just LOVED the WHOLE place!! "This is SO PRETTY!", "THAT is SO AMAZING!", "WHOA!"... it was a lot of fun to witness it all with him. He said he liked the windows the best :). They are super pretty from the inside! Not as much from the outside. Luke and Noah were very fascinated by the gold banisters... so cute :). It was really pretty. I loved being there. It was fun to be there with Grandma Ruthie and the Websters. If only it was more wheelchair accessible for Grandma. Then after the temple we all met up over at Leatherby's in Draper. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun there too. I talked to Beth the whole time :). That was nice. The dang waiter asked me what kind of ice cream I wanted twice to which I said, "No thank you", and then even brought me a spoon "to share", when he brought out the ice cream for everyone else! TORTURE!!! I am trying to be so good! And actually, if I can toot my own horn- I did to pretty good at sticking to mine and Charity's thing. I got a lame salad and didn't eat the cheese or croutons or ham off of it. Or the big beautiful piece of french bread it came with! Go me. We won't mention the teensy (like really only a 1/4 of a teaspoon size) bite of Noah's cake batter ice cream, or the fry I snuck, but other than that I did AWESOME!! Jen was so nice to cover the bill for everyone! She is just too nice. After Leatherby's we went up to my old neighborhood (had to! we were so close!) and I gave the kids a crash course tour of my childhood :). So fun! I miss that place. It was a happy place for the most part. It's changed so much. ON the way back to the freeway we saw a sign at the floral shop that said, "You get a free flower if your name is Brad"! Unfortunately they were closed, but how funny is that!!! We came home and got all set to watch the Jazz game!! If I'd known there was a game tonight, I never would have made Nate go all the way up to my neighborhood! He's so good to me. We were all excited to hear Charity come in and hear about her first day at Seagull. She had a funny story about following the lady she works with to the bank like she was supposed to, but then almost following her home! HA! And she was able to figure out how to get home once she was all turned around and a little bit lost. She mentioned that her trainer had told her that she was picking things up really quickly too! Cool girl!! I'm so proud of her! This Jazz game is really imnportant though, so I need to go and pay attention. This is the difference between 3rd place in line and 7th! Fun day!! 4-5-18
SPRING BREAK DAY 5-
Well, yesterday at Leatherby's I learned that our invitation to Ashlyn's wedding was an invitation to the sealing! Had no idea. We didn't have much else planned for the day, so it wasn't hard to work it in (in theory), but things ended up going way differently than planned- go figure. Charity didn't want to miss the whole temple scene, so we agreed to take everyone to the temple with us. We were going to have to run Charity home for work before heading back down to South Jordan for the reception, but we were trying to do Charity a favor. Unfortunately, since it was April 6th (my theory of course), the temple was WAY backed up on sealings. This might also be due to the later time of the day- I bet they just keep taking longer and longer... again, my theory. So anyway- we were there at 1:00 as requested in the invite that we read and RE-read several times to make sure we weren't missing anything else, and the sealing was supposed to start at 1:40. We sat there, in the noisy waiting room til at least 2:20. Then another 10 or so minutes in the sealing room. Then the actual sealing took a little longer. So we didn't get outside til 3:00. We knew we needed to leave by 3:15 to get Charity home changed and to work in time, but we didn't want to miss Ash coming out, so we waited until the last possible minute. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see her come out, or see her get her pictures. Such a bummer! We raced home, got Charity to work, loaded up the van for the boys' Fathers and sons campout, and then in both cars, headed down to South Jordan. So crazy. Traffic was insane. When we got there we were put to work- Nate decorated, Kelly and I set up the dessert buffet. It was nuts with the kids running around and being all hangry. We got there at 5:30 when the dinner was supposed to start, but didn't get done setting up until at least 6:45. So yea, kinda nuts. It was a beautiful place though and I loved how she decorated. Nancy did a great job on the flowers and aside from Paulette's cake fiasco, it looked pretty good too. It was a little hectic, as those things are, and Molly and Jack were done, so I didn't enjoy it all that much. It was fun to see Ashlyn married and so happy though! They are a cute couple. I had no idea he was 34 though! That just blows my mind. They are like 12 years apart! Doesn't matter, but wow! The boys had been hanging around Nate and begging him to take them to the campout from about 7:00 til 7:30 when Nate finally caved. It was really hard to ditch the wedding, they were just starting all the fun stuff when we were heading out, but we needed to get home to pick up Charity from work and the boys still needed to go get their pipes for their marshmallow wars! So we left. We brought Sierra home for a sleepover. After dropping off Kelly, Molly and Sierra, Erika and I went up to get Charity. On the way home we stopped at Walmart for some protein bars and phone chargers. I wasn't dressed properly so I sent Charity and Erika in. While I was waiting out in the parking lot I witnessed a guy getting pulled over and then arrested and patted down as well as the cop removing his beanie and then struggling to put it back on for him... hilarious really... and I must say that the cops seemed really gentle for the most part and were very calm. Nobody got violent or feisty at all. I was impressed. Then I saw another car almost back into a couple other cars while trying to back in... not sure why I'm bringing it up, but it was weird. I couldn't believe I was witnessing it all :). The girls came back and then went back in to return the chargers cause they got the wrong kind, then came back out again. I say that because I had been a little nervous about them and their safety in the store for some reason, so I was very relieved when they came back. So anyway. We came home had a movie night, no popcorn because Sierra doesn't like popcorn if it's not coated in butter and all we had were caramel and lightly salted (so many movie nights lately). Cheaper by the Dozen seemed funnier this time around. Then after that we watched GREATEST SHOWMAN! Yes, I splurged and bought it on Amazon. So cool. And the big, long day was over! 4-6-18
HEALTHY KIDS RUNNING SERIES
The boys were still camping so it was just Erika for this first race, and they are on Saturday mornings this time around, but Erika got to do her race. She is in the 2nd/3rd grade group and ran the 1/2 mile. This was double what she did last time, as well as a slight "disadvantage" of being one of the younger ones, so we weren't sure how she would do, but MAN did she whoop up on all those other kids!!! She is so amazing! She came in WAY before the next runner behind her and honestly looked like she could have run another mile and a half! She did so good! She wasn't even quite as winded as she looked at the end of her races last year. She has such incredibly long, beautiful strides when she runs! It's just too cool! I'm so proud of her! I wish there were more opportunities like this for her. I need to be better at seeking them out I guess. But anyway- fun race to watch! I'm a little nervous about how the races are going to go this time- the lady running it is new, so she doesn't have a rhythm like the other one did. But whatever- I guess it's mostly just for fun so I should stop worrying about results and such. But anyway. Good times! Can't wait to see the boys running next week! 4-7-18
