PORTER DAVID KIRSCHBAUM
We got word Sunday that Heidi had delivered her little boy! April 8th. He is a sweet looking little thing- in his picture. We have yet to meet him. Hopefully we will soon. Welcome to the family, Porter! Congratulations, Kirschbaums! 4-8-18
POOR AUNT BECKY
We also got word, on Sunday, that Becky had been admitted to the hospital. Vomitting blood is never a good sign. Unfortunately, she found out she has a mass growing on her ovary, a kidney stone, an infection in her intestines and a hernia! All at once! On top of diabetes! So crazy! I was so relieved that she finally went to the hospital though. 4-8-18
THE GUY WITH THE SMILE
Bradley finally settled on a slogan Sunday night, and he and Kelly slaved over his poster the entire evening. It ended up looking really cool- hopefully I can get a picture of it before it disappears. It says, "He's got heart, he's got style, vote for the guy with the smile! Vote for Brad!" He got to hang it up in the school on Monday (later than everyone else, because I missed an email?) I'm so proud of him for running! I think he's going to do great! 4-9-18
FHE
For our family night this week we wanted to go visit Becky in the hospital. It was not a formal family night- we were missing Charity (AP Psych review night) and Kelly (Lacrosse team dinner), so it wouldn't have felt right to have it without them anyway, but we still called it family night :). It was good to see Becky- she seemed really good. Course she was probably just faking it for us. It's not good to hear all that she's going through right now, but it was good to hear that her pain level is down. She enjoyed Nate's pastrami and bacon candy a LOT. That was fun. And of course the cadbury mini eggs- who doesn't love those. We were able to take her car home for her when we left. It was so fun to get the family out and do something nice for Becky. She deserves so much. We're hoping she gets feeling better soon. 4-9-18
JACK THE SLUFFER
Jackie has been doing this thing like once a week where he just fights me on going to school. There was a time that I forced him to go ( I think I had a PTA meeting or something), I carried him into the school, punching and kicking me, and let Julia peel him off of me, just sobbing, while I ran out the door and cried in my car. But I didn't really feel like doing that today. Last time he did this, I let him come home and told him we were going to clean the house the whole time, no tv, no screens, no treats, and that was motivation enough to go back to the school. So I tried that again this morning and unfortunately, he was content with the cleaning routine. I know it's important for him to go to school and I don't want to create any unhealthy habits, but I also feel like it's kindergarten. Not really the biggest deal to miss. So hopefully we're not making any habits and he will just learn to love school and want to go every time, but I was kind of okay with him being home. He helped me at the grocery store, loading the groceries, he cleaned his room, the kitchen, helped with Molly. No tv, no treats. Anyway. I guess I am not really sure which is the right thing to do here so I listened to my heart today. 4-10-18
LAST BOARD MEETING!!!
Today was our last real board meeting! It was so nice to get that done and over with. This has been a stress that just weighs on your mind- not that you can do anything about it- it's just there. I can't wait for it to be gone! The meeting went well- kinda didn't care though, since we're almost done!! Hallelujiah! I decided I'm not going to do anything official next year. I'm good with no meetings and just helping in the classrooms I think. 4-10-18
KELLY'S HOME GAME
We invited Grandpa (and Steve, but he had to work) to Kelly's game tonight and it ended up being the perfect game for him to attend!! She played SO WELL!! It was so much fun! She took three shots and made two of them, making the difference in the end of a win!! SO FUN!! I cannot emphasize enough how fun it is to watch her improve and grow every single game. She is getting so good. We loved the entertainment factor of this game and had fun showing it off to Grandpa. Coincidentally, Kelsey Richardson from the ward (over Personal Progress in YW) came as well! So much fun! I love that she did that for Kelly too- how cool. We ate Nate's Keto Cheesecake to celebrate- it got Grandpa's cheesecake stamp of approval. 4-10-18
GO JAZZ!
We rushed home from Kelly's game to watch the Jazz game. This was a big deal because they were playing Golden State, but also not a big deal because they totally WHOOPED UP ON THEM!! It was like 107 to 70! So awesome. The kids, and Nate cheered so loudly when Donovan Mitchell made his record breaking 3-pointer- breaking the rookie record!! Pretty sweet! It's been such a fun year!! We can't wait for the playoffs! 4-10-18
WEDNESDAY AKA CRAZY
Wednesdays are our busy days right now. This week was even worse than usual because on top of Charity's tutoring, Brad's track, Kelly's lacrosse, Erika's Activity days, Noah's scouts, and mutual, we had my community council meeting, counting book fair money, Luke was invited back to 11-year old scouts, I had to go set up the projector for mutual, and then get Erika to her softball practice by seven as well. It looked like a lot of stuff on my calendar on my phone and I had all of it kind of weighing on my mind all day. After only sleeping for a couple hours the night before... you get the idea... so anyway. Almost everyone I came in contact with yesterday (at playgroup, at the school, book fair, even while I was setting up the projector) was talking about how busy their day was. And they all were very legitimately busy days! I saw Jami's calendar, I heard about Emily's sick kid fiascos, and I know how it goes. So I got to thinking because usually, like Emily, I dislike hearing about people's busy days. I let it bug me usually. But today, I had a new realization that rather than being bugged about them telling me about their busy days and thinking about how busy mine was, it hit me that EVERYONE is busy!! Sometimes at least! Hopefully not all the time, but EVERYONE is!! It made me realize that we are totally normal. And while we do have more people, so it might be more often for us, it is not something I need to let get to me- having a busy day I mean. I need to let those days just flow naturally. Things usually work out just fine and flow just fine! In fact, I realized, I could be grateful that there were so many natural breaks between stuff, I was even able to combine trips to pick people up or take people places, and I was able to be where I needed to be, Nate helped with all that he could... it was actually a pretty well orchestrated schedule! And that has Heavenly Father written all over it. He makes it flow if I will let it. He helps me out in so many ways like this. Most of the time I am not having to choose between two things. Most of the time there is a carpool I can arrange, or a helper to help with kids at home, etc. Most of the time I am stressed and overwhelmed for no reason at all. I need to get this in my head and keep it for next week. Or tomorrow, since that's actually going to be kind of busy too :). But go ahead and tell me about your busy days. I am going to be thinking about how normal we all are :). This is a great life. 4-11-18
ERIKA SOFTBALL
Erika started back up with softball! We're super excited! It's always fun to watch our kids play their sports. She had an awesome practice tonight and is anxious to get to know the girls on her team and play hard. She's such a cool girl, I just love watching her put her whole heart into everything she does. 4-11-18
TEMPLE
I FINALLY made it to the temple today! After so many times of scheduling and rescheduling. It really works better if I decide at the last minute to go! And I did- this morning- I just felt like I really needed to go! Something was pulling me. And I read a talk this morning about families and temple work and family history and it just reconfirmed things for me. I thought it was because one of my ancestors needed me to do their work, but when I got all dressed and needed to get a name, it hit me I'd forgotten my family name!!! Which was a total bummer, but made me realize the person I was there for was me. And that my Heavenly Father wanted me there. It was amazing. I loved it! I sat in the Celestial room forever just soaking it all in and praying... it was awesome! I loved it! I feel all rejuvenated too. Such a blessing! 4-12-18
NOAH'S LETTER TO THE PROPHET
Cute Noah was very interested in writing a letter to President Nelson after Conference. He wanted to tell him how excited he was that he was the Prophet and about the new announcements of temples, etc. So I curiously looked up if there was an address to send letters to the Prophet, or what that even entailed, and sure enough, after you read about how they want you to direct your questions to your local leaders, there is an address to The Office of The First Presidency that you can actually mail things to! Who knew. Anyway- so I let him do it! He wrote a really sweet and well thought out letter telling him his thoughts on Conference, his love for Church and family, his testimony- I can't remember if I took a picture of it or not- that would have been smart- but anyway- super sweet! And we put in in the envelope, addressed it, and put a stamp on it and it was off! I really didn't think anything would come of it! But sure enough, today, a letter addressed to Noah from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, showed up in our mailbox!! Imagine our surprise!!! I mean REALLY!! I was shocked! It was so exciting! I was super anxious for Noah to come home and read it. What a cool experience for him! So it was actually from President Nelson's secretary, but it specifically says that he wanted him to tell Noah... bla bla bla... it was SO COOL!! And how cool to get a personal letter from the Prophet's secretary!! I think it's cool. I'm happy for Noah- I think it made his day. Made mine anyway :). 4-12-18
HEARTS
Molly was drawing with Erika and started requesting "Hearts!" so Erika drew her some. She wanted to draw on them, so she was holding the pencil- in the proper way mind you- and coloring in the hearts! Like she knew how to color in the lines almost! It was pretty amazing! We loved it :). Then she went to bed crying for her paper :). Poor girl. 4-12-16
CHOIR AUDITION
Charity auditioned for choir Friday. Her work schedule conflicted with her previous assigned time. Luckily the choir teacher is flexible. Charity is learning the joys of conflicting schedules and having to sacrifice things for work. Not her favorite part about getting a new job. She and I ran through the National Anthem a few times before she left. She wasn't happy with how her voice is sounding with her allergies, hopefully the choir teacher can see past that. I bet she did awesome! 4-13-16
FRIDAY THE 13TH
I didn't even know it was Friday the 13th until like 6:00 in the evening!! Such a bummer!!
NOAH BASEBALL
Noah started baseball Friday. He is on McKay Clemens's team with his dad as the coach. They seemed to have a lot of fun at their first practice. Noah is certain his baseball pants are too small and I "need to find him some new ones by next practice". Funny boy. It was fun to watch him play. I could feel him beaming from clear across the field as he was running and passing everyone up :). So cute. I love that he has that. The rest of us had a lot of fun at Gailey park, just playing around on the playground and eventually ending up in the volleyball pit (so drawn to the sand it's unavoidable). There was this funny little moment when I walked over to sit with them at the pit and Erika announces and points out her "kingdom that she's making". I look and see this outlined area with several lumps of dirt within it- definitely a whole kingdom. Then Jack, "Look at my city that I'M making!" His was slightly smaller, but with a few separate lumps with sticks in them. Then cute, little Molly pipes in with her I'm-special-mature-and-grown-up-too voice and says, "Look at my HOUH (house) I'm making!" And hers was an even smaller lump, but it was SO CUTE that she was involving herself with the big kids and trying to be like them. They were adorable. Maybe you had to be there, but I thought it was funny. Nate brought up something "funny" that night that got the wheels in my head turning. Not sure it was a good thing or not, but possibly a life changing conversation. I thought about it the whole time I sat and watched Erika play at her practice. It was interesting. 4-13-16
CHANGE
So during Conference I made up my mind to make a LOT of changes in my life. There have been a lot of things that stuck with me from Conference and I feel like I've had a lot of promptings and help to keep going with it. It's been really cool. One thing that keeps standing out is "the key to a successful day is making sacrifices". It's helped me a lot. So I've changed what I do in my free time and I've been able to make the sacrifices to make the choices that I need to make. It's been good and I feel much happier and a lot clearer mind- which is what I've been praying for. So anyway- I think I'm in the right direction. Feels good.
DATE WITH NATE
We finally got to go out again. Feels like our dates get further apart this time of year. We had to wait until Erika's practice was over at 8:00, but we headed out, made a stop at Charity's work- just to embarrass/see her at work. I don't know if anyone else feels this way- but I loved seeing people I know when I was working. Little visits are the best. We bought me a book and then Charity begged us to buy her one. It was fun to meed Marissa and have a face to go with the name. She's been a really nice trainer- Charity is so lucky to have this job!! I hope she starts liking it soon :). But anyway- after Seagull, we went to see Player One. That movie was SO FUN! SO creative. I could have done without a few things and the language. I really loved all the references to movies and video games from mine and my kids' childhoods :). So did Nate. I mean who thought of having Iron Giant as one of the heroes! Genius!! 4-13-16
RACES
We had our second race today for HKRS. The boys were with us this time. It was funny to realize that Jack is running the 1/4 mile this time! Instead of the little 50 yard dash thing. I didn't even get time to prep him. But he did awesome! He ran the entire time, which kind of surprised me. Course he's seen this a lot and knows how it goes. He was so adorable when he got to the finish line, all out of breath and wanting praise :). He felt awesome though, you could see it on his face. It was fun that Brad ran with him a little. I don't think he was in the top three, but I was SO impressed with how he did! He wasn't last! Erika did amazing in her half mile again. She was just SO far ahead of the rest of the group the entire time- it's so cool! Then she even sprints to the finish! Bradley ran the whole way with her and when they got done, he comes over and out of breath says, "She is so fast!" I had joked about him possibly slowing her down, but really he's been training so much with track lately, he's gotten a lot stronger! Erika got first place by far. Noah and Luke ran together this time which is cute for us to watch :). They stayed right next to each other the entire four laps. With another boy on their heels. Almost literally. I was really surprised he didn't trip on them or something. I imagined me stopping short so he crashes and falls and gets way behind. My kids didn't think that was a very nice idea. They looked so cool running together- made my mom heart happy. They both came in first for their age group. Noah just a few seconds before Luke. I love Luke's graphic story about how he almost threw up as he crossed the finish line, but told himself no as he was dry heaving. Funny kid. It's a lot of fun to do these races! I can't get enough of my little runners! 4-14-16
BOYS ROOM
Well, we did it! We cleaned up the big boys' room. It was a chore. That poor room with all the sheet rock mess is not my favorite place to be which bothers me because I want my kids' rooms to be somewhere that they enjoy being as well. Now that it's clean, Nate can cover it all up, sand and we can paint and make the place a little more inviting I hope. We'll see how it goes. 4-14-16
SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS WITH KELLY
Kelly had a lot of friends in this play done by Center Stage. She invited me to go with her and I was so flattered :). Luckily the Christensens helped us find the theater. They were so nice to wait for us to park and show us the way. The play was great! We both loved it! It was a lot of fun to spend that time with Kelly, see her with her friend Bryn who we got to sit by, and enjoy an evening out. The kids at home seemed to have done a great job without us much to my surprise! They even got showers! Brad gets a gold star for that. Charity was at the Elder Anderson fireside for Priests and Laurels. 4-14-16
