I was really excited for Valentine's day this year! I don't know why... just looking forward to it a lot :). I heart attacked the kids' doors the morning of, with the things I love about them written on them. I had wanted to do it for all the days leading up to Valentine's, but the whole appendicitis thing got in the way. They still liked it I think :). And felt loved- that's the whole point. We had pink, heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast. I made heart sandwhiches for lunches too :) and then everyone grabbed their cute Valentines and boxes and we headed off to school! I couldn't believe the time, creativity and effort that went into our boxes this year!! It was a pretty late night, the night before. Luckily Dad was here! They did such a great job though! Unfortunately, I don't think I got any pictures!! What in the world is wrong with me. Anyway- Charity wasn't all that motivated to do one. She settled on tying a balloon to a basket with some cute heart decorative wiring around it. It looked great! And was totally simple- wonderful! The girl that sits next to Kelly (and a good friend) was doing a fridge, so she decided another kitchen appliance would be cool and settled on a microwave! How creative is that!? She worked on it for so long! Making sure to capture every little detail. I really couldn't believe how detailed that thing was! Amazing. Bradley did a basketball hoop. I'm not sure if he really wanted to do it or if he was just going with what I suggested to be nice. But either way- he worked really hard on it, and seemed to be pretty proud of it when it was all said and done. Luke came up with his own idea- an eyeball- then realizing that I was useless in this area, waited for Dad to get home to have him draw the picture for his box. It turned out really cool! (WHY DID I NOT TAKE PICTURES??) I thought it was very creative. I liked that he worked with Nate on it too- that's fun bonding time for them. In fact, I have to say that I really love doing the boxes with the kids every year because it's the one thing I don't have to feel bad for if I help them a lot! It's true bonding time if you ask me. Very valuable. And Noah- he had wanted to make a box so badly! If I hadn't checked my email and found out he had already prepared a cute bag at school for his, he would have ended up with a really cool dragon box. LUCKILY (for time and sanity reasons only) he did not need a box. He was devastated. Even ended up going to his room to cry it out and then fell asleep. But he did make his dragon later- it was cool- but still not able to take to school. So that was sad too. But he really did have a cute bag for his Valentines.
SO- this was one of the busier days we've had recently. For me at least. I had a lot of help from my Mom with tending. I had to finish with my gift for Nate (which unfortunately didn't turn out- talk about devastating! No more procrastinating for me) in the morning. Then at 11:00 leave to pick up Luke's special birthday table lunch- Little Caesar's- then Erika and I went to his class for his class party. I was in charge of two games and was a little bummed that we didn't even get to do the second one because of time. We did have fun with the Cupid's Arrow game- shooting q-tips through straws into heart buckets- but Luke had really wanted to do the bean bag toss and win some candy :). His party was different than any I've been to. Felt really chaotic. But I met a mom there that was really nice and we chatted a lot through the whole thing. The craft was way cute, but totally insane. After Luke's party- we grabbed our now cold pizza out of the car- ate lunch together- then he totally ditched me without saying goodbye (totally kidding- he waved :) )- and then Erika and I went to Noah's class for his party. I had planned Noah's party and coordinated all the parent help, but since I was helping with Luke's- couldn't be there the entire time. It seemed to be running smoothly and everyone was having fun. Mrs. Piper has Valentine's day down! I was impressed with how organized she was with the Valentines. We had fun there and then were able to come home and crash :). We all had a nice afternoon- reading valentines and having friends over for movies and late nights. Then the sad part- Nate had to leave around 10:00 for the mid-shift. That was a total bummer.
I think the kids had a nice day though, and it was overall- a success :).
The next day was when Nate and I were able to go out and really celebrate. We waited til the kids were mostly down for the night- to a movie- and we went to Red Lobster for dinner and then to see The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. The evening was perfect.
I did have a cool little story. I had planned on buying Nate a basketball hoop for Valentine's. I saw one online at Dick's, knew I wanted it and thought I would just find time to go there and get his gift a few days before. Well, unfortunately, they didn't carry the one I wanted in the stores. I had to buy it online. Luckily they gave me free shipping and everything, but it was going to be a couple of weeks before it would get here. I was bummed. So that was when I started thinking of a different gift idea, to make these canvas pictures of our wedding pictures to hang on our wall. They were so ruined that morning (of course last minute again) that I was just totally bummed. I know Nate wouldn't care, wouldn't let it ruin the day or anything, but I just wanted to have something to give him! So I was bummed. But as I pulled into the driveway that day, after school, I was surprised to see a big box leaning against the house, just waiting for me to smile. It was so awesome!! It had come in like 2 or 3 days! I couldn't believe it. I still think Nate must have gone on there and changed the shipping date or something :), but it was just a little miracle that I consider a huge blessing for me :). Then I didn't feel so bad about not having the pictures turn out. I still need to redo the pictures. He spent the afternoon and part of the next day putting it together with Bradley. So that was fun. I'm so grateful for my sweetheart! I don't know what life would be like if he was not mine.
