Jack was very seriously studying this fishing book of Nate's, on Sunday. It was cute when I looked over and saw him acting so studiously! Such a cute boy. 9-2-18
We didn't have a whole lot planned for Labor day, we just knew we wanted to do something fun :). I had some things in mind, but then Charity mentioned a hike Jen had invited everyone to. So we got on board with that, mad dash through the house to get ready to go, and met up with Jen, the Harrises, and the Taylors and went on this hike up in Herriman. Unfortunately, I didn't ask enough questions about the hike- didn't realize it was an actual hike, so all I brought was the stroller. It wasn't stroller friendly, so I started out having Molly walk. A few steps into it, she started crying about being too tired to walk. I carried her on my shoulders, but since she doesn't like that either, she kept squirming out and wanting me to just carry her in my arms. That only lasted for so long. Plus her whining was getting to me and I kept worrying about it killing the mood for everyone else too, so I (and Jack and Charity) turned around and we walked back before getting up to the reservoir. I was a little bummed, but also relieved that we didn't have to listen to any more whining :). It was a fun hike- I'm glad my other kids got to do it. They had a blast with their cousins. Grandma Ruthie and Jared and Paulette's family joined us for a picnic when everyone else got back. It was a nice little outing with everyone! I had a great time! I think we all did!
Then, as per my original plan, we made our way up to Cottonwood Heights Rec Center and went swimming! We really didn't do enough swimming this summer! Because of that, I'm insisting that we get a membership to the Farmington pool next year. I've got it on my calendar and everything :). But we had a great time swimming. Charity wasn't in the mood to swim so she sat off in the shade without us- probably enjoyed a few moments of peace and quiet to herself. Kelly stayed by me and kept me company while we watched Molly and Jack go on the slide and in the big jelly fish fountain (don't know what else to call it) repeatedly for three hours :). Bradley, Luke, Noah and Erika stayed pretty busy until about the last hour! I think Brad spent most of the time trying to talk everyone into going off the platforms. He failed with them, but got me! Once Nate got there after work, I let him watch Molly while Brad and I went off the platforms! That was so freaky! I had to keep pumping myself up for it while I was up there! And I've seen videos of myself jumping off of those very same platforms when I was like nine years old, so I knew I didn't need to be scared, but man! Adulthood does funny things to you :). I can't believe all the kids who were doing flips and stuff off them!! So crazy! But it was fun and a pretty good adrenaline rush! We all had a good time! And then it was time to go. We stopped at Longhorn Steakhouse on the way home for dinner. Everyone was starving! Good times! 9-3-18
SINUSES OR TOOTHACHE
So Monday afternoon I developed this really excruciating pain in my face! (no jokes please) It was SO INTENSE!! It came on while we were picnicking with Nate's family and would not let up! I stopped at Walgreens before the pool and bought some pain killers. They didn't do much for very long, but they took the edge off a little so that I could enjoy the pool for a bit. I took some more meds when we got done swimming and again, not a whole lot of relief the whole time we were at dinner, my face/jaw/head were pounding! After we got home I took some more meds and then just wiped out on the couch! Don't remember much of anything except Nate reading with Jack- thankfully, he just ran things without me- they did family night and showers... I always feel so bad when that happens, but man, this time... I was in SO MUCH PAIN!! Then all night I couldn't sleep at all! I was dying! I finally got the idea to take a decongestant, thinking maybe this wasn't tooth pain, but sinus pressure/pain, and about 3:00 the pain went mostly away and I was able to fall asleep. It was so bad!! I was glad it was gone in the morning, but then once I got the kids off it started back up again. Oh and I need to mention that Charity volunteered to take Brad and Luke for me so that I didn't have to! Thank you late start! This is the first time I didn't hate you! She was so thoughtful! So anyway- I took some more decongestant and finally after picking up the groceries, the pain subsided again. It is SO BAD!! I am not sure what to do about it now, I've been in and out of the pain all evening and so far, the decongestant isn't working a third time. Not sure what to do about it. It's moved into the front of my mouth and makes my lips numb which is super annoying. But anyway. Not sure why I'm documenting this, except that it was SO EXCRUCIATING!!! It has been a pretty big deal! 9-4-18
ALL ABOARD THE POTTY TRAIN!!
Molly boarded the potty train today!! After I set her in the bathtub, she asked, "It okay I pee in the bathtub?" I told her no and that she should pee in her potty! So I quickly went and got her potty and set her on it and walla! She peed! It was that simple! We celebrated, she got her starburst, and then she did it another two times later that day! Once when the girls got home- she was so excited to show them what she could do! Charity really let her have it with the praise- it was super cute! I just need to get her to want to wear her panties- maybe we need to go buy some cute ones again... But how exciting is that!! I will be too happy if it is this easy to train her! We've had some easy ones, but if I have to repeat the difficult ones... I don't know if I'll make it :). So far so good though! YAY Molly!!!
GLASSES
So it looks like I'm going to be a four eyes again. The blurriness I've been experiencing for the past few months has finally gotten to me and I guess glasses are the only solution for blurry vision in my case. Kind of a bummer, but I guess there's no magic pill for me this time. I'll live. Could be worse. Although, now I do feel like I'm looking forward to glaucoma in the future?? Because of my puffy irises?? Whatever. We'll just see about that. I'm getting closer to 40 so I can expect that some of my systems aren't going to function as well as they have the last 40 years. Thank you eye doctor for the good news. 9-4-18
TOOTHACHE
So the sinus problem evolved and went back into a toothache. Tuesday night, it was pretty unbearable all night long. I took a whole bunch of Ibuprofen and Tylenol and that did take the edge off, but sleeping was almost impossible. It was a horrible night full of waking kids (they always wake up a bunch when I'm awake- it's weird. This time was worse than usual- Jack couldn't sleep so he was in my bed too which didn't help), and the most excruciating pain I have experienced in a very long time. Thankfully, Nate, not only insisted that I go to the Dentist, but called and made my appointment, then dragged me there. I don't know what I would have done without him. I am not sure why I thought I could just let it go, but it's a good thing I didn't. Ever since I found out Bro. Christensen is a Dentist I've had a lot of tooth trouble! Kind of annoying, but I'm really comfortable with him, so it's all good. So we went to his office after dropping off the kids, he figured out that I had an abscessed tooth, scheduled me a root canal appointment for later that afternoon, gave me a few shots to numb it (thank goodness!), and sent me on my way. I really can't express my gratitude for him that day. It was a huge blessing to know him. I can't say I was as happy with the guy he sent me to for the root canal- in fact, I hope I never have to go to him again- he was icky. I felt like he was cradling my head in his B.O. and then he only wore the mask half the time, the other half, his face was right in my face, breathing, burbing, and then breathing... ugh. So gross. I didn't love it. But who loves root canals. I kept watching the digital clock that was on the wall in front of me and trying to guess how long it had been since I last looked at it before looking at it again... yeah, I was bored. I need to remember to get ear buds and play some talks or music or something next time. Hopefully there actually isn't a next time, but I guess I know my teeth too well or something. So anyway. Got it all taken care of! It was a good two or three days before the pain was completely gone, in fact, it was still pretty intense for those two or three days, but it did finally leave! What a relief. Now I need to go back and get the permanent crown and move on to the other broken teeth. 9-5-18
THE HONDA
So Thursday, I drove down to Becky's to take her to run a few errands and then also check out some dealerships. Adam was in a car accident in her car and the car was totaled, so it's time to get a new one. We had a nice time together. We didn't make a whole lot of progress toward the car buying, but we had a good time. Towards the end of our time, I suggested that she just borrow our car until she finds a new one. I figured we could survive with just the two cars for a short time- even though we've grown quite accustomed to having three. Charity wasn't too broken up about it either, so I brought Becky home with me. We all had fun watching and talking to Nate as he got things ready for the market. It was a nice afternoon. Around 4:00 we walked Becky over to the Honda, gave her some last minute instructions for the Honda, and said goodbye. We were feeling pretty good that we even had a car that she could use. Well, not long after that- while Nate was loading up the trailer, he got a phone call from Becky. She was stranded on I-215 and the Honda had broken down. We were shocked! It wasn't good timing or good news! I rushed out to get her and take her home while Nate got everything over to the market. What a crazy afternoon it turned out to be! And so annoying really. I was able to look at the Honda a little and after talking with my dad, decided it was probably just a hose- there was radiator fluid sprayed all over the inside of the hood. So I was a little relieved, sounded like a quick fix. Unfortunately, after having the thing looked at by not only Don's brother (or whoever that towed it for us) and Nate's friend Alan, we found out it was not such a quick fix. In fact not fixable at all. It had thrown a rod and was completely done for. You can imagine our disappointment. I mean, I'm pretty sentimentally attached to that thing and really wanted it to stick around forever (not realistic, I know), but this was it. I hated telling my dad. It was just such a bummer. I really wish there was a way to go back and talk to her about down shifting on the freeway before it happened. If only time travel was a thing. 9-6-18
FARMER'S MARKET
Even though I wasn't very helpful getting ready to go- and with all the Honda drama, we still had another successful day at the market! This has been a fun thing for our family this summer. I think the kids will remember it forever. It's been really fun to see a lot of family and friends. We have our repeat customers who come every week and then a few who come every once in a while :). It's been so much fun! 9-6-18
BIRTHDAY TABLES WITH JACK!
I'm so embarrassed still, about missing our August birthday table, but Jack has been so forgiving and generally clueless about the whole thing :). He was more than happy to have another turn the following Friday with all the September birthdays :). We grabbed some Little Caesar's Pizza, some Pizza Pie Cafe Oreo Pizza (thanks big kids for the heads up on this- Jack had no idea just how far he could go with his request without everyone's advice... eye roll... and smile since I love the tradition :) ) and met up with Jack at the school. We forgot our special tickets to get in the school- luckily they were being lenient this time. But we got to sit and eat with Jack for his whole lunch period! He didn't even want to go out to recess- he just sat there with us the entire time! I don't think that's ever happened :). We loved it! It was fun to have Erika come up and get a couple of slices of Oreo Pizza for her and Kate too :). Good times! All was well. 9-7-18
PTSA
Brad and Luke have joined the Knight Crew! I'm proud of them for going out of their way to do things with the school! They seemed to enjoy it :). Then Boston dragged them down to the National Anthem tryouts where they all sang the National Anthem and received dates for games when they will be performing! Pretty cool! I'm glad they are all so brave and willing to try new things! Fun stuff. 9-7-18
While we were bumming around on Friday, we remembered we have this awesome vintage (this thing has got to be in it's 40's!) springy horse! Kim gave us this a while back- it had been her family's I think... anyway- never a dull moment when there's a springy horse in the picture! 9-7-18
DOUBLE DATE WITH SUMMER AND JEFF
Summer and I FINALLY planned a date!! It was nothing short of a miracle that I got in contact with her again and then finding a day and time that worked... it was awesome! She invited us over for dinner and a movie. I didn't want her to have to try to cater to our keto eating, so I offered to bring dinner :). Then we just ended up talking the whole time, never even turned on a movie :). It was a lot of fun. It was so great to see her so happy and thriving. I think she's sober now and didn't seem to be doing any recreational drugs. That is impressive considering. I'm happy that her epilepsy is under control to an extent and that her new guy understands her situation. He seemed really nice and like a good fit for her. That was a relief. I loved that she showed me some of her artwork and ceramics and gave me a FROG!!! So sweet! She is such a sweet person. I just want her to have the happiness she deserves. She's lived such a crummy life. It's time for her to get her break. I'm just hoping she finds the desire to come back to Church soon. We had to go pick up Charity from work in Layton, so we did have to leave a little early, but such a nice evening with some really nice people. I hope I see her again soon. 9-7-18
FIRST SOCCER GAME- GO ERIKA!!
I am suddenly a soccer fan! Erika had her first game and what a fun game it was!! She did so awesome! It was so fun to hear the D'Ewarts next to us talking about what a great goalie she was and what great speed she has and how she "plays like she's been playing all her life!" That made it really fun :). She really did amazing! She was goalie at first and didn't let a single ball through. Then they had her on forward and she was great! She just looked like a pro out there! So much fun. I wish we'd started her a long time ago, but at the same time- it doesn't seem like she needed to!! This is going to be a fun season. And definitely not the last :). 9-8-18
CAR SHOPPING
So Kelly and I drove down to Becky's work and picked her up to go car shopping. We had so much fun :). We went to Carmax and saw four cars- test drove the two she liked- then took her home. But it was a lot of fun. All the fun talking and joking. Even though it was slightly stressful- as car buying can be- but we made the most of it. I won't ever forget how patient and accommodating that dealer was! Couldn't have been older than 25, and he was just such a great listener and so willing to make things comfortable. He was so honest and so helpful! I mean really, if I needed to buy a nice car right now, which I don't, I would definitely go to him. Highly recommend him. But anyway. She wasn't positive on the one she liked most, so we got a bill of sale and left. Turns out they were overcharging for that one by $3,000.00 so it was good she didn't get it. We will head back down in a week or so :). Keep looking! 9-8-18
