We had our first day of Music Makers, Molly and I! It was pretty fun! Not quite as smooth and organized as when we did it a few years ago, but I think that takes time :). I did the singing time and came prepared with four songs- unfortunately, the girl doing finger plays did two of my songs. Kind of lame. But whatever! It worked. I forgot my music too. Lame again. I think Molly's favorite part was the activity time! She had a blast running around the room with me! We were having the time of our lives. It was so fun. If only it had ended like five minutes sooner, because that was when she started getting tired and needed to go home. But it was such a fun little thing for us to do together! Got us out of the house (well, we'd been out of the house enough that morning with lots of crazy chaos, so probably just what I'm looking forward to about it in the future :) ) and doing something fun. We need that stuff. 9-10-18
LUNCH WITH THE MOMS
Molly and I got to go to Old Grist Mill with all of the moms in the ward. And when I say "all of the moms" I mean "all of the moms"! I mean, almost- there were a few that couldn't make it- but MOST of us were there! It was awesome! We filled up the whole restaurant on one big long table! It was great! I loved it. I was sitting by Shalane and got to talk to her finally- feels like we should know each other better than we do, but now we've talked so that was good. I sat by Emily and hoped we could talk more than we did, but that was okay too. And Keeley was on the other side of me. She was fun to talk to too- she really is awesome. I wish I could do more with her. We have a lot of awesome ladies in our ward. It was a nice pleasant lunch! I hardly had to say a word about my weird choice of food (French Dip Sandwich, but not eating the bun), which was a blessing and Molly was an angel for most of the time! A few false alarm trips to the potty (not loving the big potties), and a stubbed/bleeding toenail, but overall- really good! She loved the M&Ms in her cookie :). 9-10-18
POTTY TRAIN
I've been so impressed with Molly!! She is officially a "pee-er and pooper" her words :). She actually went poop in her potty today! First time! Pretty exciting! I loved her announcing it to each of the kids as they came in the door from school. First she announced that she went pee at the school- which was great since we were there to read with kids- we didn't need her to have an accident. Then she would say, "I poop ed" with the space :). She's hilarious. I really couldn't be happier with how things have gone! I feel like I was inspired to get that little potty- it was the catalyst. She's gone two whole days with no accident, including the night! 9-11-18
SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL-LUKE
Luke finally had his tryouts last week, callbacks this week, and then FINALLY found out which part they got on Friday. It was a little too much suspense leading up to that day. Luke was pretty sad, though mostly frustrated with Boston’s response to it all by the time I got to hear how it all went. He was chosen to be a jungle citizen which in Luke’s mind was “just chorus” so that was a little bit of a bummer. I loved Charity and Kelly’s response when I explained Luke’s situation. We have very supportive siblings in this house. Kelly made sure to grab him a stuffed alligator as a nice gesture and to let him know she loves him. I thought that was sweet. I think he’s going to survive the semester. Just wish he’d gotten what he’d wanted this time ツ. Can’t win them all.
COKEVILLE MIRACLE RS/PRIESTHOOD NIGHT
So we had a lady- I wanna say Joanna Stowell (I know her last name was Stowell) a survivor of the Cokeville bombing 32 years ago, come and talk to us. She did an awesome job. She talked about the whole horrendous event and told the store from her perspective. It was awful to think about real kids really going through all that they did. I can't even imagine. And hard to realize that a lot of those kids didn't get follow-up psychological help that they probably needed. I hadn't thought about how hush hush and buck up things were back then. A few of the things that stood out to me in her talk: so interesting to me how she explained what it was like for her when she saw groups of kids praying and how "don't ever doubt that satan hates you!" "He HATES you!" and how she explained that the first thing she thought when she saw them praying, even though she was in this traumatic experience and needed comfort and peace, was a thought from satan like, "why didn't you think to pray?" How awful is that! The poor girl! But I loved how she said that she was then given a voice that said, "you can still pray!" And then the reminder to not ever doubt how much Heavenly Father LOVES us! Very cool and awesome contrast. I loved how she talked about "her job" to take care of her younger siblings. I love that Heavenly Father will use "jobs" to keep us in line and keep us on the straight and narrow. It was interesting to me that she wasn't one of the kids who actually saw and heard their angel communicating with them. I wonder how she felt about that and the fact that she didn't get that. Not that she didn't tell us about her angel and that she was held up against the wall even while passed out. Pretty amazing! I loved hearing about the little boy who saw the angels around the room and that EVERYONE had an angel. Even David and Doris Young. So interesting. I loved what she said about how much our angels do for us. That it must have been so sad for those two angels who were maybe trying to convince the Young's not to go through with things, but didn't succeed. She said, "I sometimes feel sorry for what our angels have to do for us and what they go through." Such an interesting concept. I loved her testimony about angels and that our family members who have died are tied to us through the sealing power. That they watch over us. I've always felt that way and even been told that in blessings, but it's neat to hear it from someone else. I loved that part. All of the miracles that prepared the way for this catastrophe and all the little miracles during- so amazing! So well orchestrated. How does Heavenly Father do that? And the unexplainable direction the bomb went. Pretty cool. So I loved this talk. I want to remember how I felt there. I want to remember that Heavenly Father prepares us for things. I want to remember that even things that are annoying or less desirable can be preparation for miracles/blessings/learning experiences. Trials too- they can all be something the Lord is using to bless us. Very cool. I couldn't help but feel a little nervous that Heavenly Father was using this talk to prepare me for something in the future. I hope I am prepared for that "something" whatever it is. I hope it's not anything too horrible. I was happy I had Nate there- didn't realize it was a Priesthood thing until I got there, so he hurried and got dressed up and came to be with me- I was so happy when he came in. Very nice evening. 9-11-18
COOL NEW PARK
We had playgroup at this new park down by the Farmington Rec Center! It was such a cool park! I kept thinking about how much fun the other kids would have there and planned on going on Saturday in the evening or something to show them all. Emily and I had met up an hour earlier than playgroup so that we could have some time to hang out and that kind of backfired because our littles didn't have the same plan. But it was nice to talk a little. Playgroup was fun. I just loved that new park! 9-12-18
TWO LEFT FEET
Kelly and I grabbed a pair of new cleats for her on our way home from the car shopping on Saturday. They were super cute yellow ones (it was some kind of miracle that they even had yellow ones- the selection was so slim and she had proclaimed that she wanted yellow ones before seeing them) that she was really excited about! Well, on Tuesday at practice, she went to put on her brand new, yellow cleats and get this- they were both left feet! And the wrong sizes at that, which we didn't notice til even later. How does that even happen?!! So anyway- we had to run to the store Wednesday to return them. I missed my community council meeting, but it was a nice time with Kelly. Even for the funny circumstances. 9-12-18
DATE NIGHT ON A WEDNESDAY??
Nate and the Deacons had a camp out planned for this Friday so there was no mutual and given the circumstances for the rest of the evenings this week- Nate and I decided it was the perfect night to go out! We went and saw Meg! I know this is a cheesy shark movie, but I was dying to see it. And I wanted to see it in the theater- ya gotta see those kind in the movie theater! I love those movies :). And I loved this one! I think my boys would love it, minus all the people eating that takes place. But overall- two thumbs up with a big cheesy smile from this girl :). Nate didn't even fall asleep! So we know it wasn't horrible :). 9-12-18
2ND TO LAST FARMER'S MARKET
Nate is so loyal to his customers that he passed up doing the Kaysville Stroll to be at the market. It was good for me because I'm not anxious to try another location- we know what we're doing now and have a system- I feel like that will throw us off. But it was cute that he was wanting to be loyal and didn't want people showing up to the market for his meat and finding our spot empty. He is hoping to do the Stroll in October, so we will see! We did sell out on the pulled pork again, - which is always kind of fun. Surprisingly, we didn't have to turn anyone away- great job on the numbers, Nate! And thankfully, there were plenty of jalapeno poppers left over :). 9-12-18
NATIONAL ANTHEM FOR JAZZ GAME TRYOUTS- GO CHARITY!!
This was one of the coolest things I've seen. Charity found out they were doing tryouts and after some convincing from me about missing school (that was her only hang up, can you believe that!), decided she was going to tryout! Now I know how much this girl loves the Jazz, but this is TRUE LOVE!! Well, and she's just crazy brave! I love that about Charity! She is so awesome. So after checking out Charity from Seminary (she wanted to go to MOST of it and wouldn't check out earlier to get down to the Vivint Arena sooner BECAUSE of Seminary... good girl), we drove nervously down to Salt Lake. She really didn't seem all that nervous on the way there. We had fun talking and generally a good time. Parking was tricky, but after a few laps around the arena, we found a nice spot. THIS is when she started to get nervous. And showing it I guess. We went in, through the metal detectors, then stood in line for about 15 minutes? Not too long, which was nice. Then we signed in, I signed a consent form, and then we went downstairs. They directed us to a fairly dark room. On one side of the room (the front) there was a long table with five people- basically judges- facing the microphone that people were walking up and singing a piece of the National Anthem into. There were little round tables set up clear to the back and every table had people at them, all except a few. There were about 100 people in there. We quickly found a seat near the front (front row joes, I tell ya!) I had seen on the sheet that we signed in on that she was number 67 and as we were sitting down we learned that they were on 27, so we new we had some time. It was a nerve-racking hour(ish) of listening to everyone trying out! There were SO MANY GOOD SINGERS THERE!! We both couldn't believe how great some of them were! I started to get really nervous for her. But really, in the back of my mind, I kept thinking about how pure and how crisp her voice is and how clear her tone is and kept thinking about how original that is compared to all of these other singers. We were both thinking about how online they had mentioned that they didn't really want people adding their own flare to it because they wanted this to showcase the National Anthem and not the singer. So I was really starting to think she had a chance! I knew she did before we got there, but it helps to scope out the competition. We knew she was after the big group of guys, so when they were called up the butterflies got really busy! It was so crazy! I was even shaking! The announcer then said her name!!! She went up there so calm and collected, grabbed the microphone and belted out one of her best renditions of the Star-Spangled Banner I've heard her give and did it with the whole world watching!!! It was SO AWESOME!! I was so proud of her! She did amazing. I got it on video and can't stop watching it- she really did a phenomenal job! We have a week and a half or so to sit it out and wait for news about whether she made it or not, but what a thrill ride that was!! She came back to our seats with no intention of sitting down and we walked right out of there :). What a cool girl! Then I took her back to school :). 9-14-18
DEACON CAMP OUT
We've all been very excited for our new Scout Master- Travis Clemens! Nate has been thrilled about the idea of having a new partner. And he has already exceeded our expectations! He scheduled a camp out for this weekend. The boys were excited, Nate was busy packing and getting things ready for them all day and all was well! They were able to take off at 3:30 and headed up to Smith and Morehouse! I was glad that Brad and Luke were both prepared to make the most of things and to help the 11 year old scouts have a good time and hopefully look forward to becoming a Deacon soon. I hope they did their part. They all had a good time. They were covered in smoke from the nearby fires, and had caught lots of spawning salmon that Brad doesn't think they were supposed to catch, but had a great time! I'm glad they got to go do that finally! 9-14-18
GLASSES
After Nate and the boys left for their camp out, I ran up to the eye doctor and picked up my new glasses! The lady had handed them to me and pointed out the mirrors, so I put them on and before I even looked in the mirror, the silliest grin plastered itself on my face, and I was sold! I felt a little weird when I looked in the mirror, but being able to see was just too cool!! She asked me what I thought and all I could say was, "I'm liking being able to see!" She had wanted to know about the fit, but I didn't really care at the moment. I was barely coherent enough to pay for them and go. I wish the one lady had been there who does the adjustments because now I'm wishing they were tighter, but really- I thought I would just use them for reading and driving, but I can't get myself to not wear them! It's just so nice to be able to see! Every time I turn around there's a new thing I'm happy to see! I think it even slows me down on the road because I'm so in awe of everything around me! It's just so nice. I only wish I could block out the dirty walls and marks in my house!! I don't really want to see those. 9-14-18
WHILE THE BOYS WERE AWAY- THE GIRLS (and Jack and Noah) PLAYED! WITH THE MAUGHANS--- isn't that how the saying goes?
Emily invited us to the new park in Farmington with them Friday night! I couldn't believe I had completely missed that we would both be husbandless that night! So this was a great opportunity. We grabbed some pizzas and headed over there. It was a nice relaxing evening! The kids all played their hearts out! Well, minus Charity and Kelly and Molly. Kelly was anxious to go to the Homecoming football game and Charity was refusing to take her for me. Molly needed to go potty a million times (because it takes a few false alarms before anything comes out- we're learning). But we managed to have a good time. I did anyway :). 9-14-18
ERIKA'S SECOND SOCCER GAME
We had Erika's second game Saturday! She did so great!! She started out on forward and was amazing! Got two goals! They were total fast breaks where there wasn't anyone to pass to, so she just took care of it all for the team :). We loved it!! After a good break she was put back in as defense and she did great there too! You could tell it was hard for her to stand back and watch
(they were playing a pretty crappy team, so not a lot of action on the defense), but she was right there and stopped the ball- looked awesome out there :). I loved it! I really like watching her play soccer! It's a lot of fun! We had to go get Fiiz after to celebrate her two goals. Our cheerleaders got some too :). 9-15-18
DATE WITH KELLY
Kelly's name finally came up on the random name thing on my phone to go on our Mother's Day date! We were so thrilled :). I needed to take Charity to work and run a few other errands (picking up buns for Nate's job, taking back Charity's fitbit- which she ended up getting Costco store credit for! which I thought was awesome-- and a few other things), but after a quick Big Lots run- cuz Kelly loves that store- we went to Red Lobster. There was an hour and a half wait so we needed to kill time and Hobby Lobby was calling our names :). So we browsed (and shopped) a little... and a little more... until it was close to time to go. We found some cute little wood signs for Kelly to write on for our ladies we minister to. We had all these great ideas while we were there and wished we had all this money :). Eventually it was time to go. We waited at Red Lobster, but only for a little while and then when we went in to see where we were at, they were coming out to call our names! Pretty awesome. We had a great time! I realized how Keto friendly that place is. Kelly tried shrimp linguine alfredo for the first time and liked it! That was a relief. I had suggested it. She is not a big seafood fan, so it was funny that she picked that restaurant for our date :). But we had a great time! We went back to Kaysville to get the cooker from last week's catering job- that was a couple who were just getting sealed and needed food for 50 people. And then drove back up to Layton to get Charity from work. It was a nice evening! Had a great time! Thanks to Bradley for babysitting! 9-15-18
