6th GRADE DANCE MEETING
I really shouldn't document this, because I don't want to feel the irritation later, but this meeting was SO IRRITATING! I'll just say I had no idea we could talk about 6th grade dance decorations for an hour and a half. Hoola Hoops with icicle lights to round out the space and not make it so big and box-y, lights all around the room, BALLOON COLUMNS, MATCHING PAPER PLATES!!! So crazy. I'm wishing for things to be like last year. But whatever- it will be the best PROM these kids will ever attend. Yep, the theme is Prom. Luke: We could have had CASUAL! 5-14-18
FHE
Nate taught a lesson on the law of the Harvest. It was cool to see the kids grasping it and figuring out the whole concept. Cool lesson for us with our freshly planted garden out there to use as an example. We played King Pig (my choice :) ) with scripture actions (bow and arrow motion for Nephi (Luke), holding up an invisible title of liberty for Captain Moroni (Nate), chopping off an arm motion for Ammon (Bradley), Jack thought of Jesus and we were going to do a heart shape on our chest for the action, but Jack got cold feet and decided to just watch, then touching a stone action for the brother of Jared (Erika), fold arms and bow head for Enos (Charity), writing motion for Joseph Smith (Noah), and holding your hands in a weird boat shape- wrists touching, hands curved up- like I said, weird- reminded me of Mac and Me that alien movie--- (me). This ended up being a really fun game and one that we were all (except Molly and Jack--- and Kelly who was at her dress rehearsal for Shrek) could play. I loved it :). Took me back to Middle School Choir. Then we went to Yogotogo for the treat. We grabbed a bowl of ice cream for Kelly and dropped it off at the school. Good times. 5-14-18
NOPE
Nate and I had planned to squeeze in a mini (anniversary celebration) date on Monday night after FHE and the kids were in bed and really almost did go on one, but we were just way too tired by the time we were done with bedtime. It was kind of sad, but really, we both were exhausted! Makes us sound like party poopers, I know, but man, May is a killer. If only we'd known that when we picked our anniversary :). 5-14-18
EYE DOCTOR FOR GRANDMA HATCH
Molly and I took my mom to the doc for her eye follow up. That ended up going a lot quicker than I thought and was fairly uneventful, so we went out to lunch as well! I decided that the Costa Vida in Centerville is not as good as the one in Bountiful on 2600 S. Just sayin. It was a nice time with my mom. If she hadn't had the eye patch on, I think Molly would have been more friendly. 5-16-18
SHREK THE MUSICAL JR
Some of us (Charity, Noah, Erika, Jack and I) got to go see Kelly's musical on Wednesday night! And what a production!! It was so much fun!! Kelly is a "Storyteller" as one of the three blind mice, which she made out to be not a big part, but surprisingly, she was in THE WHOLE THING! She was one of the most important characters! It was so fun to see her, she does such a good job. She's just so good at the things she does. Puts her whole heart into it. The play was great! Jacky was laughing his head off through the whole thing- it was so fun to see him enjoying it in between bouts of whining for a drink and wanting it to be over :). Aside from loving my little blind mouse, I loved Pinocchio, Donkey and Lord Farquad as well. They did such a great job! Grandpa Hatch and Dawn were there as well. We had amazing front row seats. The Young Women had come to support Kelly which I thought was SO AWESOME! I love that they do that for the girls. It was a great night for a great musical. We took everyone to Fiiz afterwards. I love catching a glimpse into Kelly's world once in a while. She doesn't let me in it very often or very easily, but I loved that night and being part of it with her. 5-16-18
DGL BOARD?
I got an email last week asking if anyone was interested in being on the parent board for the Lacrosse team. I have been wanting to be more helpful, so I said I was interested. Well, of course, being the "extra parents" that they all are, one of them called me Wednesday night during Kelly's play to nudge me in the right direction. I was able to ask some questions and get more info on what being on the board entails. I just kept thinking that I am done with PTA President so this would be an okay time to take on something else. I still didn't know exactly what position I would fill, but secretary sounded doable. Anyway, I basically told her I was in. So we'll see what that means. They meet once a month and then do other extra stuff throughout the month. Planning meals for the girls, organizing tournaments which hopefully Kelly will get to participate in next year, and a bunch of other stuff that I can't think of. But anyway. I guess I'll try it out :). I'm guessing we get a little break during the summer... not sure. 5-16-18
LUNCH WITH DAD
We went out for my dad's birthday on Thursday. Cheesecake Factory as usual :). We both got our usual. Maybe someday we will be able to say that? It was a nice time! I'm always so grateful for that time and attention from him. He's always so interested in what we are doing, all the crazy stuff my kids are into at the time... it's just really fun to be able to talk to him. 5-17-18
KELLY'S FIRST AP TEST
Kelly had her AP Human Geography test today! She is so calm and so mellow about everything it was hard to tell she was a little nervous. Sweats on, pencils and pens in hand, she walked in the school at 6:50 to go have breakfast with her class. It's always so nerve-racking for me to just hand her over to things like that- but I did good :). I said a little prayer for her on my way home. I just wanted her to be able to relax and feel good about things. When we picked her up at noon she was in good spirits and seemed to feel good about it, so that was nice :). I'm so proud of her for sticking with those AP classes this year. She worked so hard and without any help or coaxing from me earned herself college credit as a 14 year old 9th grader! Pretty crazy. So proud! 5-18-18
LUKE DARE LAGOON DAY
So Luke finally settled on going to Lagoon the day before- it was a long deliberation period for that decision. He had made big plans with Trenton to go together. I got a text the day before from Clint's mom wanting to know more about the day and then making arrangements for Clint to go with Luke because I assumed he would want to go with Clint. Well, assuming never really goes well for me and this was no exception. After I invited Clint, Trenton invited Boston. It seemed like an okay idea beforehand, and the ride there was SO much fun. All their teasing about "thrills" and plans for which rides to go on, who likes what. But as the day went on I realized it was not the memorable day I'd pictured Luke having. I guess Boston was a pain the whole time, not really wanting to go on any rides, kind of bossing everyone around to go get food every five minutes, and just being himself, which means, not really getting along with Luke. Then Clint was kind of tricky to have around as well because he didn't really want to go on anything either. He did have to leave at 4:00, though, so at least there was that, but Luke says that between 4:00 and 7:00 they went on THREE RIDES because Boston wanted to keep stopping for food. So weird. Then, since Boston had a phone and his parents were okay with it- he asked them for a ride home and convinced Trenton and Luke that they needed to go home too. So frustrating. It was the most expensive un-fun time I think I've ever paid for. Luke came home really disappointed and tired and I think had residual anxiety from it all on Saturday. We talked about how he could have handled things better by sticking up for himself and what he wanted to do, but man, what a drag! I felt so bad for him. 5-18-18
STUFF
We crammed a lot of stuff into Friday evening. Nate and Brad went to Kelly's play with Ruth and Aunt Jen. How fun of them to come up and support her! Charity had to work. Luke was still at Lagoon. Noah was at Max Patane's Marshmallow shooter birthday party, so Molly, Jack and I were all that was left of Erika's cheering section at her game. She played awesome by the way. It was a busy evening! I ran over to the church at 8:30 to set up things for our Primary Party in the morning. I was so grateful for Nate and Brad's help. When all was said and done we came home and watched Benji together! We're almost done with this kind of craziness. Til next year I guess :). 5-18-18
PONDS PARK PRIMARY PAJAMA PARTY
Well, the Primary breakfast was a success! I think things went really well. I got to make the pancakes- which was good, because I hate not having anything to do. We ate, did our lame skit which I wish would erase itself from my memory, sent the kids around in groups to stations with relay races, obstacle course, Reverse Charades, and making pictures out of the shapes from our story/skit. It was a lot of work and at the wrong time of year, but I think it was worth it. I loved hearing that Jami's kids were excited for it and enjoyed seeing everyone's happy faces. Props to Nate for all of his hard work and help with set up, clean up, being my security blanket, and Molly :). Also, to Charity, Kelly, Bradley and Luke who are no longer in Primary but continue to serve the Primary leaders and kids! I couldn't have done it without them and their support and company! I just love how willing my kids are to help with those kinds of things. We had Charity doing music and then serving eggs, Kelly came a little later and served sausage. Bradley helped Cal Carlson with the obstacle course stuff, blowing up 75 balloons! Luke was our syrup man! Poured syrup on everyone's pancakes! He also helped his class plan some of the activities. It was a huge operation, but so much fun! We all raced out of there pretty fast to get to Kelly's STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME! 5-19-18
2nd PLACE STATE CHAMPIONS IN DIVISION TWO
It wasn't til I was sitting on the bleachers of the Skyline High School Football stadium that it hit me- my daughter's team is playing in the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!! It was such an exciting place! I sent Kelly off to warm up, sat on the bleachers and watched the boys Lacrosse teams playing- Boys Lacrosse is so fun! Reminds me of Hockey a little. That was an intense game! Ridgeline (I think) was ahead by two when I got there, and then the other team whom I now can't remember pulled out two goals and tied it up just as the game ended. Then the other team was the one that ended up winning in sudden death overtime. Pretty crazy. I felt kinda bad for Ridgeline. But whatever. I was mostly just excited to get on with our game! My heart jumped a little when I saw our girls take the field. There was my cute little Kelly out there on that big field, warming up with the Varsity team! This is just such a cool experience! Especially as a 9th grader! Kelly has worked so hard to get where she is! I couldn't be prouder! It also made me almost tear up when I saw them in one of their pow-wow huddles and one of the girls reached around and put her arm around Kelly. Made me feel like they were being really inclusive of her and making her part of the team. I loved that! We all knew she may not get to play, but it was fun to hope and fun to watch the Varsity girls give that game their all!! They played so hard! I loved the first three minutes where we were ahead, but that was about it for us being ahead. We did have a pretty good comeback toward the end of the game and brought the score up to 8-15, but sadly we lost the game. There were some tears shed, but really- they fought a hard fight! that Jordan High team is good! They have trick plays and everything! But I guess we did beat them earlier in the season. So anyway. It was so fun to see Kelly getting a medal draped around her neck and all the fun team pictures at the end. What a fun experience! for all of us really! I love her siblings getting to be part of it all with her and having things to look forward to in their futures and making plans and goals. This was just too cool! I was so proud of Kelly! I only wish I'd had my camera and my Davis Girls Lacrosse shirt! Can't believe I forgot it! Next time! This must have been a fun game for Charity, because when Meredith called to get a sitter, she asked if she could try being a goalie for fall! So cool. What a fun exciting day for Kelly!! Oh! Grandma Ruthie came too! Nate ran and picked her up and she got to watch with us. Good stuff. 5-19-18
