SIMON'S BIRTHDAY
We went over to my mom's Sunday evening to celebrate Simon's birthday. The kids made him a big poster sized card with all their cute signatures. The cutest part was Molly writing her name!! She actually does it!! Back when she and I took Becky to her MRI appointment, we had a lot of time to kill in the waiting room so I had taught Molly how to write her name. Not the first time of course, but she's so young I don't expect her to remember it. But here she was, getting ready to "sign her name" so I said, "Remember Molly? Up and then down, then up and down?" And SHE DID IT! Perfectly! A perfect capital "M"! Then, kind of going out on a limb, I said, "And now a circle..." to which she drew a perfect little "o" right next to the "M" and this time it was proportionate! Before, her "O" had filled up the page, which was super cute, but not really right :). THEN! I said, "K, do two little lines, demonstrating how they look in the air..." And of course, she did it! Two little "l"'s right next to her "o". Then the "y". This one is hard to describe, so it doesn't really come out right anyway, but the thing she drew was definitely close enough to a "y"!! I need to have my mom take a picture of it! It was SOOOOOOO CUTE!!! We ALL loved it! I didn't even mention how in shock all the kids were when they witnessed it all for the first time. Kinda fun. So anyway- that was on Simon's card. We had sandwiches my mom brought home from her Linger Longer, cake, and test drove his ebike! The kids loved that! Fun time. I was so proud of Bradley for turning down a game of basketball in order to keep the Sabbath day Holy. That takes a lot, let me tell you! 5-20-18
SIXTH GRADE SNEAK
This was kind of the last hurrah for the sixth graders- they've had a few "last hurrahs", but I guess they deserve them :). They went to Classic Fun Center on Monday! Pretty fun! It didn't sound like Luke had the time of his life by any means, he didn't love that the blow up toys kept deflating, but he did have a good time, for the most part. I really can't believe he's going to be in Jr. High next year, kinda weirds me out. 5-21-18
WHAT DO YOU WANNA DO?
Erika had a lump on her gums that had been giving her a lot of pain for almost a week. We finally took her in to see the Dentist on Monday. It was an abscess with infection. He didn't want to do a root canal on a baby tooth like that, so he gave me (why do they do this-- like I'm supposed to know what's best! I'm a mom, not the Dentist!) the choice to either give her antibiotics for 10 days, with only the hope that it works completely, and possibly have to pull the tooth then or to pull the tooth out right then. He was only concerned that there would be a large space there for too long because the one next to it has a crown. Now we all know I'm a little bit on the lazy side, so for me to compare these two options, one looks like a lot of remembering, nagging to take meds, tricking her into liking the meds, missing some doses, etc., the other looks like pain for a day. I talked Erika into getting her tooth pulled and pretended like it was her decision. We all knew that's what I was leaning toward. She was so brave, "didn't even know when he pulled it out" since he'd said he was just going to wiggle it around a little, joke-ster! She did great! She even insisted on going right back to school with a giant hole in her mouth. What a tough girl though, and the abscess was gone when she got home from school! What a relief! 5-21-18
NO SCHOOL FOR JACK
So there's no Kindergarten this week! Kinda crazy! But each time I said it, Jack's eyes lit up a little more. He seemed to enjoy not having to get ready first thing in the morning and being able to sleep in the days Nate was here were nice too. Monday he had his assessment. I just dropped him off in Mrs. Piper's room and left him there! When I got back, a half hour later, he had shown her all the things he can do! She wanted to sit down and show me his progress which I must say has been shocking this year! I am so proud of him and what he has done! He's really learned a lot. Especially when you consider that he is probably the youngest kid in the class. Pretty cool stuff! I'm really proud of my Jack Jack. Mrs. Piper was too! 5-21-18
CLEANING THE CHURCH
We were in charge of cleaning the church this week. I thought it went well. Took us pretty long on Monday night though. But I think we did an extra good job. Especially in the Chapel. If you're going to do the job, you may as well do it well! 5-21-18
FHE
For Family Night, since Molly was the lesson, we decided to do our family decathlon to get Noah all pumped up for his on Thursday. It was a lot of fun! Nate, Brad and Luke totally dominated on most of the events, except for cup stacking- I think Noah won that. We did cup stacking, jump rope, shuttle run, basketball dribble, and 200 meter (not really sure how far our 200 was though :)). This is a lot of fun for everyone. We had donut holes for my treat. 5-21-18
TEMPLE TUESDAY
I'm so proud of my kids for how dedicated they are to their temple attendance! I wish I had more to do with it besides mumbling a goodbye as they sneak out the door at 5:00 am. I'm so proud of them. They love it and look forward to it too. So cool. 5-22-18
MOUNTAIN MAN RENDEZVOUS
We had a great time running the Fish Pond at the Rendezvous. I could have done with more organization and less micromanaging throughout the whole process, but overall, it was a good experience. We had enough fish and didn't have to bring too much home. I will have to post the pictures I took and hopefully get some from Natalie. Noah seemed happy to have us there. Brad sacrificed time in his Study Hall class to come down and help out. Jack and Molly were super helpful the whole time and Nate, even though he was feeling zombie-ish, gutted almost all of those 33 fish!! Crazy that he can haul hay bales and put up with me with almost no sleep. Gotta love the man! 5-23-18
CATERING
Nate's been working overtime on his hobby these days. Trying to get his website up and running as well as some social media sites, it's been fun to hear about and try to offer suggestions on how to do things. He's loving it. He's had a few takers lately. This week he was making pulled pork for the RS Board Dinner. That was cool. He was so nice to do the labor for free. In a couple weeks he is going to do Brent Schick's Sons of Utah Pioneers dinner again too. He's getting all geared up to do the Farmer's Market as well. We will see how it all goes! It's fun to see Nate get all excited about it. 5-23-18
WEEDING
Erika and I did one of the beds in the front yard on Wednesday night together- that was a nice way to visit with her. Then a lot of the kids helped out with the other two on Saturday after cleaning the church. We are finally done with the weeds in the front yard. Til tomorrow anyway :). Time to start planting. 5-23-18
KAYSVILLE THEATER FIELD TRIP WITH ERIKA
I got to walk to Kaysville Theater with Erika and her class on Thursday. This was a fun little field trip. She held my hand the whole way making me feel like part of the group. We had Kate, Morgan, Sabrina and a couple other girls (they were with one of their moms) in our group. We went to see Peter Rabbit which was actually better the second time. I think everything was less of a shock, so it was easier to swallow :). Kinda cute though. The kids loved it. Morgan even let me switch to sit by Erika in the middle of the movie. Erika is a sweetheart- I love being with her. 5-24-18
PICNIC ON THE PLAYGROUND
This is one of the kids' favorite traditions. We grabbed some Little Caesar's and Pizza Pie Cafe Oreo Pizza and trekked on out to the field for our picnic. This year seemed a little different- felt like the kids hung around more and that we got to talk to them and stuff- that was fun! We even got guest appearances from Charity and Kelly. Bradley had wanted to come, but was so responsible and went to his classes instead! That was a good choice. He had some things he needed to turn in so I was glad he did. We saved him some pizza of course. It was a nice time. We even got to sit by the Maughans this time! First time in a long time, if ever! Good times though! So glad the year is coming to an end! 5-25-18
A DATE FINALLY!
Nate and I finally got to go on a date! Friday night. We went to Texas Roadhouse and then saw the movie A Quiet Place. I wasn't super excited about this movie, but it ended up being really cool! I kind of loved it! It was SUPER intense and I kept saying how stressful it was! But really cool. Nate liked it too! 5-25-18
ALLERGIES
So my allergies have gone completely bizerk this week/end. I wasn't sure what it could be except that I've been doing this Whole30 challenge so I had inklings that it was something I was eating. I finally googled it on Saturday and sure enough, all the foods I've been allowing myself to eat are high in histamine!!! DUH. So basically my system was overloaded and not able to handle simple things like weeding and having the lawn mowed. I am not kidding, it was BAD! I sneezed 26 times during one of my intermissions weeding. My heart was POUNDING and beads of sweat were dripping down my face! It was nuts!!! (Literally though, it was all the nuts I've been eating) Not sure how I'm going to handle this problem. I am still not too good with allergy medicine- never have been. I don't love Zyrtec so far so I might get some Claritin. Tough stuff. 5-26-18
